Alleged COOLING DOWN failure to stop yields criminal charges A woman who allegedly disregarded a stop sign Thursday, May 9, resulting in injuries to a motorcyclist, now faces criminal charges. Tressie Sue Denning, 41, of 230 Elm St., Lawrenceburg, has been charged with criminal recklessness – use of vehicle, a Class A Misdemeanor; and criminal recklessness resulting in serious bodily injury, a Class D Felony, according to court records. Denning, driving a 2013 Toyota Sienna minivan, ran a stop sign at the intersection of Arch and Margaret streets in Lawrenceburg, according to witnesses and the victim, said the probable cause affidavit of Lawrenceburg Police Sgt. Nicholas R. Myers. When he arrived at the scene just after 6 p.m., he found Robert S. Kumli on the ground near a minivan, with a motorcycle partially on top of him, said Myers. Kumli was screaming in pain, and once the bike was removed, was found to have a lower right leg injury, said the affidavit. Kumli said he was stopped on Margaret Street going west, said Myers. As Kumli went through the intersection, he saw a minivan approaching but thought it would stop at the stop sign. It didn't stop, running through the stop sign, and hit him, he told police, wrote Myers. Denning said she struck the motorcycle, he said. She said she didn't see the motorcyclist until it was too late, and told Myers she was watching the roadway and wasn't looking down or away from the roadway, said Myers. Witnesses walking nearby, however, told Myers Denning appeared to be looking down in the vehicle and not at the roadway. They said the minivan was going south on Arch Street and rolled through the stop sign at what they estimated to be 10 to 15 mph, striking the motorcycle, wrote Myers. Other witnesses in a vehicle behind the minivan said Denning had rolled through a stop sign at Arch and Euphemia streets and they had yelled at her and followed her down Arch Street, said the affidavit. They then saw the minivan roll through the stop sign at Arch and Margaret streets and strike the motorcycle in the intersection. May 15, Kumli told

South Dearborn Schools will begin classes on July 31, but the Aurora city swimming pool will remain open from 3 to 6 p.m. daily through Labor Day. Pool manager Debbie Peters told the Aurora Parks and Recreation board at its Monday, July 15, meeting that the pool is going well this year despite recent incidents of vandalism. She said someone had broken into the rest rooms, plugged up the commodes and let water run for several hours. Paper towels had been strung around the park and garbage strewn around the shelter house. The incident happened sometime late on a Saturday night. Parks custodian Steve Turner said there has also been additional vandalism in the restrooms at Lesko park, as well as break-ins at the pop machine in that area. Police are investigating. Peters also asked for simplification of fees for private parties at the swimming pool, citing a complicated formula now in use which depends on party size and the length of time it will be using the pool. Board members approved a new standard fee of $150 for up to three hours of use for private parties. Non-profit fees will remain at $90 unless the organization obtains a waiver from the board. A delegation from Korean Veterans of America appeared to express their thanks for the help the city provided during the dedication of their memorial at Lesko Park, bringing a reply from chairman Mike Peters, that the city is proud to have it. The board gave enthusiastic approval for Mike Woulms to plan an acoustic instrument “community jam” at the park pavilion, on a Sunday afternoon. If it proves successful it could become a monthly event. Woulms said the entire community would be invited, and musicians of all skill levels will be welcome. He added that it would also be an opportunity to offer free lessons to young people who want to learn an instrument. Mike Peters will work with Woulms to find an open date for the first event. Mayor Donnie Hasting plans to meet with the South Dearborn School corporation to see if provision can be made for Babe Ruth baseball on one of their fields. The League had used school facilities in the past but the plan did not work out this year, and there is no where for the league to play in Aurora, It had been hoped to create a new facility on city owned property but the area is too small for a regulation field.
