CHIROPRACTIC / ACUPUNCTURE

AUTO COLLISION

A. Yes, our office is a BWC provider for chiropractic, acupuncture, as well as massage therapy. Harrison Health Associates also does electro mylograms/nerve conduction studies performed by a BWC neurologist at our office. Many of my patients do have multiple BWC providers. For example I may be the provider of record Raymond Stricker with the patient also having a pain management D.C. FIAMA, Dipl. physician, neurologist, or neurosurgeon as a specialty AC LLC treating physician. Many people do not know, but a BWC claim only stays active if the patient sees a provider approximately 1 time per year. After a 1 year period the claim becomes inactive. An inactive claim can be reopened with some paperwork, but I do highly recommend patients seek a BWC provider 1 time a year to keep their claim active even if they are feeling well because you never know when an exacerbation may happen. Our office also works with durable medical goods companies to provide TENS units and back braces. The office does work with diagnostic imaging facilities to provide MRI's, CAT scans, and other procedures which may be needed to evaluate an injury. Xrays are usually done in office. If you have any questions regarding this or any other topics please feel free to contact me.

When a damaged vehicle is brought to Randy Lane's Auto Body Inc. for repairs, our goal is to return the vehicle to its 'preaccident' condition. One of the key issues in returning a vehicle to its pre-accident condition is matching the color of the Ed Gerstner newly painted panels to the rest of the vehicle. The way this is accomplished is by 'blending' the new color into the mating panels. By blending one color into another you create a seamless transition between the new color and the existing color. Even though repairs may not have been performed on the blended panel, this area must still go through the full preparation process for painting, they must be sanded cleaned, masked off to prevent overspray painted/blended, and clear coated. The goal of Randy Lane's Auto Body, Inc is to provide our customers with the highest level of quality craftsmanship and customer service in the industry. We look forward to serving you in the future.

Q. Dr. Stricker does your office take workers compensation claims?

Paint color match is key to a quality repair.

OPTOMETRIST

Q: Dr. Ringel, my child is playing baseball this summer. What type of eyewear should he be wearing to protect his eyes?

A: I recommend to all my patients that they purchase specially designed sports glasses. Sports glasses are made of tough plastic materials and polycarbonate lenses Michael F. Ringel, O.D. designed to withstand impact from a ball. Each year, approximately 37,000 people suffer sportsrelated eye injuries serious enough to require emergency room care. The sports with the most injuries include basketball, baseball and racket sports. I carry several fashionable styles of sports glasses here in my Harrison office. Our personal approach and attention to your needs is unsurpassed.

PHARMACIST

Q. I am having trouble sleeping. Can you recommend something?

A. Want a better night's sleep? Sleep in a quiet, dark environment and set the thermostat at a slightly cooler temperature. Don't allow Jeff Biddle pets in the bed. No reading or watching TV in bed. Don't watch the clock. Set a "wind down" time prior to going to bed. Try drinking warm tea or milk to increase your body temperature, which helps induce and sustain sleep. Exercise is good for sleep, but don't exercise within two hours of going to sleep.

MONEY MANAGEMENT

How could the J.P. Morgan loss impact me? As of this week, the losses have mounted to over $3 Billion and are expected to be upwards of $4 Billion. That’s close to the GDP of the Country of Fiji ($4.08 Billion, www.cia.gov) or twice the entire business of Wendy’s fast food ($1.8 Billion, symbol WEN, cnbc. com). Yet, these losses are more likely to damage a quarter rather than create a bankruptcy filing. However, as a shareholder, the ride isn’t over: the stock price Roger Ford has lost more than 10% of its value, the Federal Government opened an investigation, and the dividend is not certain according to CEO Jamie Dimon. Perhaps the biggest question for us is why a commercial bank with federally insured deposits was involved in this speculation. Shouldn’t they be loaning money to small businesses and taking in deposits, not making large bets? Does the $3 Billion trading loss of JP Morgan impact you? Most likely not, but maybe it should. If you’re with a big bank or broker (Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, Merrill Lynch), maybe it’s time to rethink how they manage your money. Constant headlines of these bailed out giants show a narrative of “poor” and “sloppy” risk strategies and little respect for your retirement dollars. Why put your dollars with poor risk management? In 2011, we weren’t making speculative bets. Instead our Conservative Income Portfolio created opportunities by bringing in income, reducing risk, and defending returns from inflation and volatility. Stop in to our office, and we’ll show you how we bring value in these uncertain times. ADVERTISING Q. I want to advertise my business but only have a small budget. What is the best advertisement for my money? A. Let’s say you have $200 to spend in advertising. Rather than to invest in a one-time ad costing $200, it is much better to schedule a series of smaller ads, 4 or 5 weeks at $40-$50 per week. Not only do you build credibility when your business is seen on a continual basis, but you increase your chances of being seen by more readers this way. Call to speak with your local sales representative, Donna Metzger, for more information about placing a business ad.

TAXES

Q. Is there any tax relief for mortgage debt forgiveness? A. If your mortgage debt is partially or entirely

forgiven during tax years 2007-2012, you may be able to claim special tax relief and exclude the debt forgiveness income. Normally, debt Darren Bowman, CPA forgiveness results in taxable income. However, under the Mortgage Forgiveness Debt Relief Act of 2007, you may be able to exclude up to $ 2 million of debt forgiven on your principal residence. The limit is $ 1 million for a married person filing a separate return. To qualify, the debt must have been used to buy, build, or substantially improve your principal residence and be secured by that residence. Refinanced debt proceeds used for the purpose of substantially improving your principal residence also qualify for the exclusion. If you qualify, you claim the exclusion by filling out Form 982, Reduction of Tax Attributes Due to Discharge of Indebtedness, and attaching it to your federal income tax return. If you have any questions concerning mortgage debt forgiveness, please give us a call.

INSURANCE

Q. What is wedding insurance?

A. Wedding insurance is normally covered under a special event liability policy. This type of policy can cover some of your lost expenses if the wedding is postponed, cancelled, or if something happens to the wedding gifts. You could be reimbursed for non-recoverable expenses due to an illness to the bride or groom. It could be damage or loss to the tuxedo or bridal gown, ruined photos, lost rings, and more.

Roger Ford

Some wedding insurance policies cover host liquor liability. It is best to find out if the policy you choose includes this coverage if alcohol will be served at the wedding reception. A lot of times the reception hall will automatically provide this coverage, but it is best to make sure how you are covered under their policy. A wedding insurance policy on average would cost around $160.00 and the price could vary based on the amount of guests. Based on how much is spent on an average wedding today, a wedding policy would be a small price to pay to protect this large investment.
