CITY OF AURORA ORDINANCE 2014-_____ AMENDMENT TO ORDINANCE §130.03 HUNTING AND/OR DISCHARGE OF WEAPONS § 130.03 HUNTING AND/OR DISCHARGE OF WEAPONS PROHIBITED. (A) (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge or use any cannon, gun, pistol, firearm, paintball gun, pellet gun, cross-bow, trap, bow and arrow or other device or weapon, including those used for hunting, within the limits of the city, unless otherwise provided in this Section. Hunting is not permitted on any city property or within the city limits. (2) Hunting is not permitted on any city owned property. Hunting shall be allowed within the city limits only on private owned land, the size of which must be no less than twenty (20) acres per parcel, or contiguous and adjacent parcels owned by the same person that total twenty (20) acres, or more. Any such hunter shall have written permission from the private landowner, shall be legally licensed to hunt in Indiana, and shall use only those weapons allowed during Indiana hunting seasons. It shall be unlawful for a hunter to discharge any hunting weapon within 500 feet of any building, structure, public roadway or publicly navigable waterway, or within 200 feet of any adjacent property owner’s property line. (3) It shall not be unlawful for a person to discharge a bow and arrow, cross-bow, shotgun of a design legal for hunting wild game in Indiana, or rifle of a design legal for hunting wild game in Indiana, if said person is discharging any such weapon safely into a target for practice and so long as said person is on private land of no less than fifteen (15) acres with permission to do so from the private landowner. It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any weapon within 500 feet of any building, structure, public roadway or publicly navigable waterway, or within 200 feet of any adjacent property owner’s property line. (4) It shall not be unlawful for a person to discharge any weapon of a design legal for hunting wild game in Indiana if said person is doing so on private owned land, the size of which must be no less than one hundred (100) acres per parcel, or contiguous and adjacent parcels owned by the same person that total one hundred (100) acres, or more. It shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any weapon within 500 feet of any building, structure, public roadway or publicly navigable waterway, or within 200 feet of any adjacent property owner’s property line. (2) (5) This section shall not apply to police officers discharging weapons in the course of their official duties. (B) Violation of this section shall result in a $200 fine for each occurrence.
