Founding of The Cadillac Company

Cadillac was formed from the remnants of the Henry Ford Company After a dispute between Henry Ford and his investors, Ford left the company along with several of his key partners in March 1902. Ford's financial backers William Murphy and Lemuel Bowen called in engineer Henry M. Leland of Leland & Faulconer Manufacturing Company to appraise the plant and equipment in preparation for liquidating the company's assets. Instead, Leland persuaded the pair to continue manufacturing automobiles using Leland's proven single-cylinder engine. A new company called the Cadillac Automobile Company was established on 22 August 1902, re-purposing the Henry Ford Company factory at Cass Street and Amsterdam Avenue. It was named after French explorer Antoine Laumet de La Mothe, sieur de Cadillac, who had founded Detroit in 1701.

First Automobiles

Cadillac's first automobiles, the Runabout and Tonneau, were completed in October 1902. They were two-seat horseless carriages powered by a 10 hp (7 kW) single-cylinder engine. They were practically identical to the 1903 Ford Model A Many sources say the first car rolled out of the factory on 17 October; in the book Henry Leland Master of Precision, the date is 20 October; another reliable source shows car number three to have been built on 16 October. Cadillac displayed the new vehicles at the New York Auto Show in January 1903, where the vehicles impressed the crowds enough to gather over 2,000 firm orders. Cadillac's biggest selling point was precision manufacturing, and therefore, reliable.

Hello and let me introduce myself, My Name Is Cheryl Poe AKA Divah K, my Professional Name born on June 8th 1969 in Harlem NY. I Was Born With Music In My Soul From Day One, I taught myself how to Write, poetry, stories and Songs. I was so impressed with the Media Industry When it began. I began by imitated Cheryl da Pearl of the first original female Rap Group on records, The Sequence. I was honored when I originally met Cheryl The Pearl in my home in SC. I was invited to sing back up with her in the studio and on stage. Thanks to Mr. David Bright formerly of the 90’s R&B Singing Group, Vertical Hold.

I loved the Girl Groups and started a few of my own. At 13yrs old I was introduced to the first cable Show network called "the Belizean Girl Cable show" and started a group called the Ebony Girls whichever consists of myself, Dashoun and Shanique. I got my first intro into being on TV OMG I was hooked. Ms Pitts and JR taught me and the girls how to pose, dance and always carry myself like ladies. We were the Dreamgirls of that time lol and that's where I met my life-long friend

Roxie Pipersburg. This began my early adult years And after being the first of my friends to get my own Apartment I Started Another Girl Group called Mystique which consisted of myself, Lashae and Bernice, And started to learn how to become a Manager. I was in charge of picking the songs. Teaching the steps, choosing the outfits. Finding the venue and we always won Talent Shows

ALWAYS we were that good and looked that good. Well this Group recruited another Member named Sherry, qon our last talent show and disbanded yet remained friends for years to come. I went back to school and took up Business Management and Graduated Had my third and last child a daughter I named Keona so now I had 2 boys "Sean and Eric.

I started another group but this time I had auditions and with the help of David Bright and my Friend Vantic we started a group I named "Grown n Sexy, GnS for short" we were a bad group bad meaning good of course we brought in Stephanie and Sonee and with Vantic and myself our harmonies was Excellent. I would promote the group,, pick out the songs we were to sing helped picked out the outfits,, pay for the venue,, host and the DJ. With this group we had 3 numbers 1 hits on itunes and was the baddest female group I ever had. Every time we made it, we disbanded. Couldn't get along with each other cause one head was too big, one loved to argue with members, it was fun while it lasted. I then moved away to SC and was then introduced to Internet Radio; I was always told I had a Radio Voice so why not try it. I ready myself to be a radio Personality, then the owner of the radio station became, bossy and mean. I knew how to promote myself thanks to Business Management classes so as I did I met a music producer and graphic designer named Donald at Testimonialink Media. Mr. Butler offered to sponsor my first website and radio show so with that, I was finally on air. I loved it. This is my Story and I'm sticking to it… Thanks for reading

The individual accused of killing 10 Black people and injuring three others during a shooting at a grocery store in New York has been indicted by a grand jury.

On Wednesday, Payton Gendron was indicted on 25 counts, including murder, domestic terrorism, hate crimes and other charges. The indictment includes one count of domestic terrorism motivated by hate, 10 counts of first-degree murder as a hate crime, 10 counts of seconddegree murder as a hate crime, three counts of attempted second-degree murder as a hate crime and one count of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

The gunman, 18, is set to be arraigned on Thursday afternoon, where he is expected to enter a plea, per ABC News. He has previously pleaded not guilty in previous court appearances, the Times said.

A representative for the Erie County District Attorney's Office tells PEOPLE that they "cannot comment on the charges until after the arraignment has occurred."

Attorney Daniel Dubois, who the Post reported is representing the shooter, did not immediately respond to People's request for comment.

10 Dead in 'Racially Motivated' Mass Shooting at Buffalo Grocery Store, Suspect in Custody

A security guard at the store, a former police officer named Aaron Salter, Jr., engaged the gunman, but the shooter was protected by his tactical gear.

The gunman then fired at the security guard, killing him. Buffalo police who responded to the scene engaged the suspect, who eventually put a gun to his own neck before officers convinced him to drop the weapon, Gramaglia said. At that point, the suspect was taken into custody.

At a prior press conference, Erie County Sheriff John Garcia said, "It was, straight up, a racially motivated hate crime.

Suspected subway shooter, Frank James is escorted out by the FBI and NYPD officers from the 9th Precinct after being arrested in the attack at the 36th St subway station in Brooklyn on April 13, 2020.

The man authorities say is behind the mass shooting inside a New York City subway that left dozens injured, pleaded not guilty Friday to the two charges he is facing.

James, 62, is accused of setting off smoke grenades and firing a handgun 33 times on a crowded N train traveling toward the 36th Street station in Brooklyn's Sunset Park neighborhood on April 12. The attack left 29 people injured, including 10 who were shot, officials said.

At James' arraignment Friday, US District Judge William Kuntz read the indictment charging James with one count of a terrorist attack and other violence against a mass transportation system, and one count of discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.

Prosecutors said the alleged Brooklyn subway shooter's DNA was obtained through an authorized search warrant.

When asked how he would plead, James answered, "not guilty" to both counts.

James, wearing a tan jail uniform and a blue mask, said he was "good" when questioned by Kuntz, who also asked him about his educational background. James said he was born in the Bronx and listed off several schools.

"I have a GED," James said in court. "I have some certificates from various trade schools."

James has a lengthy criminal history and had talked about violence and mass shootings in videos posted on YouTube, including one uploaded days before the shooting.

The suspect was known to New York City authorities before Tuesday's attack. He has nine prior arrests in the city dating from 1992 to 1998 for offenses including possession of burglary tools, a criminal sex act and theft of service, NYPD Chief of Detectives James Essig said. Prosecutors asked for James to remain detained until his trial, and James' attorney, Mia Eisner-Grynberg , said she would not enter a bail application at this time.

There will be a status conference in the case on July 25 at 2:30 p.m.

THE BOOK OF NEGROES, A 2007 AWARD WINNING NOVEL

During her career, Ellis performed on Off Broadway theater, appeared in many film, and had roles on television. In film, she is best known for her roles in "Men of Honor" (2000), "Undercover Brother" (2002), "Ray" (2004), and "The Help" (2011). On television, Ellis had her most significant role on the 2015 mini series, "The Book of Negroes".

Every role is a potential lover. I ask: Are they someone I want to wake up to in the morning and go to bed with at night? Do they question my assumptions about life? Consume me to distraction? Make my cry, then clown to make me laugh again? If I say yes, then it's all I need.

I love playing different characters and things that are challenging. I'm not interested in safety at all. That's what makes me get up in the morning.

A lot of practical things keep me motivated, like taking care of my family. On an artistic level, there are stories that I want to tell. I grew up in a storytelling-rich community. It is important to me as a consumer of art and I guess in some ways a wannabe artist to continue that tradition, and acting is my chosen genre at this point to do that.

Pain doesn't have a face and pain doesn't have a certain way of staying quiet, it resonates.

11:33 a m - The suspect walked to the west side of the elementary school and made entry through the door. He then went to room 111 or 112 and began to shoot. “It’s not possible to determine (the room) from the video angle that we have at this point in time. We do know this: that he shot more than 100 rounds based on the audio evidence at that time, at least 100 rounds,” McCraw said.

12:58 p m - Law enforcement radio chatter said Ramos had been killed by the Border Patrol team and the siege was over.

What happened in those 90 minutes has fueled mounting public anger and scrutiny over law enforcement’s response to TUESDAY’SRAMPAGE. On Friday, McCraw said the on-site commander made the “wrongdecision ”McCraw said that commander was the chief of police for Uvalde CISD. The on-site commander believed the gunman was barricaded in a classroom and that the children were not at risk, McCraw said “Hewas convinced at the time that there was no more threat to the children and that the subject was barricaded and that they had time to organize” to get into the classroom, McCraw said. “Ofcourse, it was not the right decision. It was the wrong decision,” he said.

During a press conference Friday afternoon in Uvalde, Governor Greg Abbott said he was initially given “misleading” information about what unfolded during the shooting.

GENTLEMANS GAZZETT WATCHES

It is difficult to find articles that focus on low budget watches for the modern gentleman since most horologists tend to dedicate all their attention to the impossibly expensive pieces. Not today!

Unfortunately, it’s the high-priced luxury watches that bring that money in over the low budget boutique brands and wholesale watch companies. Fortunately, we don’t play favorites, nor do we think it’s fair to say that only expensive watches are worth owning. Now, $1000 is still a lot of money, but in the world of watches, that budget is modest relative to the cost of high-end timepieces.

Timex Marlin Watch Reissue

When it comes down to it, a watch is simply a slightly more functional piece of jewelry. The only two things that should matter are that (1) they do their job (telling time), (2) they fit your style, and (3) you want to wear them. For any man in the market for a watch, it’s highly opinionated world, so we encourage you to focus on your taste and needs.

Does Low Price Mean An Inferior Product?

Not entirely! Obviously, you’re not going to get a solid gold watch with a handmade movement, because let’s face it –you get what you pay for in most cases However, there are many brands with a proven reputation that cost pennies on the dollar in comparison to most of the watches advertised in glossy magazines

Movement Country of Origin

Quality of Materials & Workmanship

The country that the watch was manufactured in is often a deciding factor in price In most cases, watches with Chinese movements are less pricey than ones with Japanese, German or Swiss movements This is due largely in part to the fact that they are inferior movements, but that’s not to say the watch won’t work well for many years

Swiss automatic watch movement. Often some of the most creative young watchmakers today rely on less expensive movements from China to be able to launch their line. These watchmakers want to prove themselves, so they work extra hard to ensure that every watch is interesting and beautiful at the same time. For those manufacturers so new to the game, the initial reputation will either make them or break them. For this reason, it pays to observe (and occasionally buy) microbrand watches that are still trying to make a name for themselves in a famously vitriolic industry where every action is heavily critiqued.

Quality of Materials & Workmanship

Naturally, one of the biggest influencers of the price is the quality of the materials used and the workmanship. A no-name plastic watch made in bulk by machine in China is going to be far less expensive than a gold or rhodium watch.

Quartz vs automatic watch movement

The same, of course, goes for the type of movement. A mechanical or automatic movement in most cases will far exceed the price of a quartz movement. There are When it Watches $400 –$800

This is that price point where it becomes a little bit harder to select a watch. It’s a unique price point because you have to ask yourself if you love the watch enough to buy it; it’s no longer a throwaway watch. In general, we recommend saving up a bit more or paying a bit less, but these three watches will give you a good technology makes it easy to read in the dark. An excellent everyday timepiece for aspiring watch collectors.

If untreated, the complications may include: the affected area is susceptible to infection. the wounds heal leaving behind scars, puckered skin or pigmentation. Restricted and painful movement when the disease affects the armpits or groins. Scar tissue may interfere with the lymph drainage system which ends up in swelling of the arms, legs or genitals. You cannot take a big gulp of some Pepsi without saying “ahhhh ” afterwards. It is just that good and refreshing! Pepsi was originally developed in 1893 as Brad’s Drink and was renamed Pepsi-Cola 5 years later, which was then shortened to just Pepsi in 1961. Caleb Bradham first introduced the drink at his drugstore in North Carolina. The soda was advertised to relieve dyspepsia, otherwise known was indigestion, and boost energy. In 1903, Bradham moved to a rented warehouse where he sold 7,968 gallons of Pepsi that year, and the rest is history! A woman who said she had been intimate with Eric Holder testified that she saw the accused killer load a gun shortly before “Nipsey Hussle” was murdered.

LOS ANGELES UPDATE:

Hussle became known for his numerous mixtapes, including his Bullets Ain't Got No Name series, The Marathon, The Marathon Continues, and Crenshaw, the last of which American rapper Jay-Z bought 100 copies for $100 each. After much delay, his debut studio album Victory Lap was released in 2018 to critical acclaim and commercial success and was nominated for the Best Rap Album at the 61st Grammy Awards in 2019.

A former gal pal of Nipsey Hussle’s accused killer testified Monday that she saw the murder suspect loading bullets into a gun shortly before the beloved rapper was killed in front of his store.

Two posthumous Grammy Awards for the songs "Racks in the Middle" and "Higher" were awarded to Hussle in the Best Rap Performance and Best Rap/Sung Performance categories, respectively, the next year at the 62nd Grammy Awards.

Bryannita NicSouth Los holson, who admitted on the stand that she had been intimate with the shooter, Eric Holder, also testified she heard her former fling say “Did you say I snitched,” before he stormed away from Hussle outside his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019.

Nicholson and Holder, 32, were in the area that day after she drove him to get some food from a restaurant located in the same shopping center as Hussle’s store. While doing so, they saw the rapper.

During her testimony at Los Angeles Superior Court, Nicholson said she was excited to see Hussle, but Holder jumped out of her car first to talk to the 33year-old rapper.

Nicholson said Holder then instructed her to turn onto Crenshaw Boulevard and park in an alleyway. She said Holder then took two more bites of his chili cheese fries before he jumped out and told her to wait in the car.

Nicholson said Holder didn’t walked down the alleyway. going to get a shirt or something, she said.

cholson testified that Holder was carrying two guns when he returned to the car she was driving.

Nicholson said she heard Holder say to Hussle in a loud voice, “Did you say I snitched,” before walking away from the rapper and two other men.

Bryannita Nicholson said Holder yelled at her to drive away from the alleyway and saw him put the weapons into a bag. When asked by Senior Deputy District Attorney John McKinney if she sensed a fight was brewing, Nicholson said,

A few minutes later, Nicholson said she heard gunshots. She said she was debating whether to leave the area but was worried that Holder was hurt.

When Holder got back to her car, Nicholson said she saw he was carrying two guns a black semi-automatic weapon and chrome revolver on him. She said Holder yelled at her to drive away from the alleyway and saw him put the weapons into a bag.

“No, it didn’t occur to me at all.” Nicholson said posed for a photo with Hussle while Holder picked up his food.

When they both got back inside the car, Holder told Nicholson to drive around the block twice, she testified. The second time she passed by the Marathon store parking lot, Nicholson said that’s when she saw Holder loading his weapons.

Airmiess Joseph Asghedom (August 15, 1985 –March 31, 2019), known professionally as Nipsey Hussle (often stylized as Nipsey Hu$$le), was an American rapper. THE FUTURE OF REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN AMERICA

The movement against abortion rights is nearing its apex. But it began way before Roe

In fact, though, that 1992 opinion went on to dismiss that very argument as "unrealistic," because it "refuse[s] to face the fact" that for decades "people have organized intimate relationships and made choices ... in reliance on the availability of abortion if contraception should fail." Not exactly the concession that Alito described.

It is not unusual for justices to cherry pick quotes but not so out of context and not from former colleagues who are still alive and privately, not amused at all.

In the end, though, Alito's opinion has a larger objective, perhaps multiple objectives.

Writing for the majority, he said forthrightly that abortion is a matter to be decided by states and the voters in the states. "We hold," he wrote, that "the Constitution does not confer a right to abortion." As to what standard the courts should apply in the event that a state regulation is challenged, Alito said any state regulation of abortion is presumptively valid and "must be sustained if there is a rational basis on which the legislature could have thought" it was serving "legitimate state interests," including "respect for and preservation of prenatal life at all stages of development."

regulate abortion to eliminate "gruesome and barbaric" medical procedures; to "preserve the integrity of the medical profession"; and to prevent discrimination on the basis of race, sex, or disability, including barring abortion in cases of fetal abnormality.

Ultimately, the translation of all that is that states appear to be completely free to ban abortions for any reason.

Now that Roe is gone, a process that allows minors to get an abortion could disappear

REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN AMERICA

Now that Roe is gone, a process that allows minors to get an abortion could disappear

What might life might look like in America?

Joining the Alito opinion were Justice Clarence Thomas, appointed by the first President Bush, and the three Trump appointees — Justices Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett. Chief Justice John Roberts, appointed by President George W. Bush, concurred in the judgment only, and would have limited the decision to upholding the Mississippi law at issue in the case, which banned abortions after 15 weeks. Calling the decision "a serious jolt to the legal system," he said that both the majority and dissent displayed "a relentless freedom from doubt on the legal issue that I cannot share."

constitutional protection we dissent," they wrote. Alito's opinion is a tour de force of the various criticisms of Roe that have long existed in academia

Alito's 78-page opinion, which has a 30page appendix, seemingly leaves no authority uncited as support for the proposition that there is no inherent right to privacy or personal autonomy in various provisions of the Constitution and similarly, no evidence that peoples' reliance on the court's abortion precedents over the past half century should matter.

Near the end of Friday's decision, Alito sought to allay fears about the wide ranging nature of his opinion. "To ensure that our decision is not misunderstood or mischaracterized, we emphasize that our decision concerns the constitutional right to abortion and no other right. Nothing in this opinion should be understood to cast doubt on precedents that do not concern abortion. "

But in his concurring opinion, Justice Thomas said the legal rationale for Friday's decision could be applied to overturn other major cases, including those that legalized gay marriage, barred the criminalization of consensual homosexual conduct, and protected the rights of married people to have access to contraception.

Alito pointed for instance, to Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the 1992 decision that upheld the central holding of Roe and was written by Justices Sandra Day O'Connor, Anthony Kennedy and David Souter, all Republican appointees to the court. Alito pointed to language in the Casey opinion that he said "conceded" reliance interests were not really implicated because contraception could prevent almost all unplanned pregnancies. In a historic and far-reaching decision, the U.S. Supreme Court officially reversed Roe v. Wade on Friday, declaring that the constitutional right to abortion, upheld for nearly a half century, no longer exists.

Dissenting were Justices Stephen Breyer, appointed by President Clinton, and Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan, appointed by President Obama. The said that the court decision means that "young women today will come of age with fewer rights than their mothers and grandmothers." Indeed, they said the court's opinion means that "from the very moment of fertilization, a woman has no rights to speak of. A state can force her to bring a pregnancy to term even at the steepest personal and familial costs. “With sorrow for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental

• Writing for the court majority, Justice Samuel Alito said that the 1973 Roe ruling and repeated subsequent high court decisions reaffirming Roe "must be overruled" because they were "egregiously wrong," the arguments "exceptionally weak" and so "damaging" that they amounted to "an abuse of judicial authority."

• The decision, most of which was leaked in early May, means that abortion rights will be rolled back in nearly half of the states immediately, with more restrictions likely to follow. For all practical purposes, abortion will not be available in large swaths of the country. The decision may well mean too that the court itself, as well as the abortion question, will become a focal point in the upcoming fall elections and in the fall and thereafter. What's more, the anti-abortion movement will not be satisfied with this win, observes University of Michigan law professor Leah Litman. "The next time the Republicans win control of the Senate and White House and the House of Representatives a national abortion ban is going to be on the table," she said in an interview.

• Even as abortions have now become far more restricted overall, the Guttmacher Institute reports that the long-term decline in abortions has reversed. In 2020, there were 930,160 abortions in the U.S., an increase of 8 percent more abortions than in 2017. The Institute also said that at the same time, fewer people were getting pregnant and among those who did, a larger proportion chose to have an abortion.

" THE FUTURE OF REPRODUCTIVE RIGHTS IN AMERICA

Liebel, with SBA Pro-Life America, acknowledged that more legal battles are likely.

"That's gonna take us back, frankly, to where we always have been. Each side tries to put their big toe right on that line and push the envelope," Liebel said.

Battles in state courts are also likely.

Some state constitutions may offer protections for abortion rights notwithstanding the U.S. Supreme Court's interpretation of the U.S. Constitution. In Florida, for example, the American Civil Liberties Union and other reproductive rights groups are challenging a 15 -week abortion ban modeled on Mississippi's law, on the grounds that it violates privacy rights protections guaranteed in Florida's state constitution. Interstate enforcement battles

Abortion bans in restrictive states will likely bleed over to states that protect abortion rights as well, Rikelman said. She notes that some state lawmakers are trying to prohibit people in other states from providing abortions to their residents.

Even without overturning Roe, Rikelman points to the Texas law known as S.B. 8, which took effect in September. The law, which has spawned individuals filing civil lawsuits to enforce an abortion ban.

"What we are seeing already are states and state legislators impacting even people's ability to access abortion in places where it would remain legal," she said.

Republican supermajority leaders in Kentucky earlier this year includes a host of new requirements for dispensing medication abortion pills, and a provision for extraditing people from other states who illegally provide abortion pills to Kentuckians. It's unclear how enforceable those types of laws would be.

Meanwhile, some states are trying to expand access to abortion in preparation for more patients traveling from restrictive states for procedures. Connecticut lawmakers passed legislation this year designed to protect abortion providers from out-of-state lawsuits.

"This just raises a whole host of issues," Rikelman said. "All of those different disputes will have to be worked out in the courts" including, potentially, in the U.S. Supreme Court.

1. Every story you tell is always about “I” and not “we”… even if your partner was directly involved in the event. It’s normal to want to maintain some autonomy when you’re in a relationship, but when you have to twist and turn the way you speak to make sure that you don’t give away the fact that you’re dating someone, you know exactly what you’re doing, and you know that it’s wrong.

2. When someone asks if you’re seeing anyone, no one expects you to whip out a flash drive with a PowerPoint presentation of “TheEntire History of Me & My One True Love.”But saying you’re single when you’re not is sketchy as hell. Whether you’re lying to keep the attention of the hottie at the bar or because you worry about what your friends will think, it’s a lie, your partner wouldn’t approve.

3. If you’rereading this, check out Relationship Hero, a site where, they help you through complicated and difficult love situations like deciphering mixed signals, getting over a breakup, or anything else you’re worried about.

4. Not everyone puts their entire life on Facebook and Instagram, so it’s understandable that you might not want to upload selfies with #MCM every week But if you can’t go a day without sharing your thoughts and camera roll with the world, you can’t tell me that it’s just a coincidence that your partner doesn’t even exist according to your social media profiles. Obviously, it’sdifferent if your significant other has specifically asked you not to post about them, but generally speaking, it’s a little weird to write status updates about ingrown hairs but not your live-in boyfriend.

5. If you’ve been dating for a year but they haven’t met your friends or family, why the hell not? Long-distance couples get a pass for this one, but for most serious couples, it’s weird when the people who are closest to you have no physical proof that your partner is a real, flesh-and-blood human being. Maybe it’sreally because the circumstances just haven’t been right yet, but if you’ve been a legitimate item for more than a few months, it’s time to ask yourself why you’re hiding your partner from your loved ones.

6. While being secretive about your partner or your relationship strays into shady territory, exercising caution and keeping the nitty-gritty details private can actually bode well for longterm potential.

Instead, it’s all about the two of you, which is just how it should be.

7. Have you ever told a friend about something happening on your relationship, only for them to reply that with their partner, things are this, that, and the other way? It leaves you wondering if maybe you’re not progressing the way you should or that your relationship is somehow lacking because it’s not following the same path. That’sridiculous! No two couples are the same and by keeping your relationship private, you’ll be more likely to remember that. “Although largely unconscious, a constant comparison works against our own mental health and the health of our relationships,” Manly says . You don’t need that kind of negative energy in your life!

9. You know those couples who post each other so much on their social media accounts that they might as well just merge into one? It’s gross and obnoxious and it’s clear those couples aren’t as happy as they’d like everyone to believe. “The time spent posting on social media is time taken away from faceto-face contact with [your] partner,” explains clinical psychologist, Dr. Carla Marie Manly. “And, all too often, it’sgenuine face-to-face contact that is lacking in a romantic partnership.”A private relationship is much more likely to be a happy one.

8. The more other people know about your relationship, the more opinions they’re going to have about it. That’s why keeping your relationship private is such a good idea. It means that every little hiccup doesn’t automatically spell catastrophe for your family members, best friends, colleagues, etc.

10. Because everyone in your lives doesn’t know much about what’s up with you and your partner other than that you’re happy, they can’t really throw in their two cents and cloud your head with their thoughts and opinions. Comments from the peanut gallery will only make you confused about your own feelings, but keeping your relationship relatively private will allow you to really think about how you feel and what you should do in a given situation. That’s the best possible scenario.

Staying In The

These states and beyond, has a vast population of LGBT members who have lived in the closet for most of their lives while obliged to form traditional families. Spending the majority of their lives attempting to pass as heterosexuals to gain social approval and often engaging in secret same-sex relationships, these gay men and women end up with irreversible damage to their physical and mental health.

Coming out is no longer a matter of popular debate, but a matter of public health. Claim Scientist: Louis H. Lafontaine Hospital in Montreal. But for some who spent most of their lives in the closet, it might be just impossible. Whether it is the fear of being rejected by their now grown children, being criminalized by the homophobic society, ostracized by their own community, or the strong belief they would be unable to rebuild their lives with their new identity, these men and women are too broken to souls.

Here are the main ailments that are likely to develop if you are forced to keep a secret from society and often yourself:

Dissociative Identity Disorder. Notable psychiatrists Sullivan and Roughton have discovered that closeted individuals routinely separate their attractions and feelings for the persons of the same sex from their identity. That means these men and women find their desires so unacceptable that they keep them out of their conscious awareness, separating their sexual identity from the rest of their persona.

Chronic Depression. Increased fear and withdrawal from friends and relatives and the chronic stress of hiding one’s sexuality can lead to excess amounts of cortisol in the body, which contributes to severe depression as well as the general “wear and tear” of the body. Montreal found that staying in the closet weakens your whole immune system, in addition to leading to chronic depression.

Low Self-esteem and Negative Self-view. Both can lead to avoiding fulfilling relationships with others.

Spending the majority of their lives attempting to pass as heterosexuals which brings with it such issues as fear of intimacy, deep shame about their sexual experiences, and inability to develop emotional intimacy, psychologists claim. Alcohol/Drug Abuse and Suicidal Thoughts. Growing increasingly withdrawn and depressed, closeted individuals often follow unsafe sexual practices and engage in other destructive, risk-taking behaviors. Constantly haunted by suicidal thoughts, many consider ending their lives..

Self-disgust and Self-hatred. Socialized into thinking that being non-heterosexual is somehow “mad,” “bad,” “wrong,” or “immoral,” many closeted gay and lesbian individuals develop internalized homophobia. They find that they do not belong and do not fit in either the “straight world” or the “gay world.” This painful feeling often leads to self-disgust, selfhatred, and contempt for the more open LGBT members.
