“We are just at the tip of the iceberg of the potential for exchange of [renewable] power. UAE is working very hard with everyone to start an energy market. We believe that with the modernization and the cheaper forms of sustainable renewable energy, PV solar, we will be able to cut the costs down in the future and de-risk the fluctuation of gas prices, and we think that the UAE can, and will, supply others with reasonable and cost-effective energy. And there is a potential for expanding it. Today the normal exchange of energy is around 1GW, but once we tap into the interesting projects... mentioned, where 40GW is to be installed from now until 2050; Once we are there, along with the [renewable] projects in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait,… we will have so many GW of renewable energy that we can even send power to the West and Africa in the future. The potential is huge. And we believe we can achieve self-sufficiency by 2030.”
