Mike Kuklinski to present 25-year address at Alumni Banquet

Mike Kuklinski ‘00 will be giving the 25-year speech at the Alumni Banquet.

Kuklinski plans to share how perseverance and hard work has impacted his career and life over 25 years after graduation.

Kuklinski went to medical school at St. George’s University and earned a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2011. Before that, he obtained a master’s of science degree in physiology in 2005.

“I always remind myself to stay hungry. Be hungry to always learn, to gain new knowledge, and seek wisdom. We can always continue working on ourselves and getting better each day. It is when we say things like, ‘Oh, I know enough,’ or ‘Things are fine the way they are’ that our lives can start to stagnate,” Kuklinski said.

High school influenced Kuklinski, and was a milestone that impacted him as a person to this day.

Mike Kuklinski ‘00 will be the 25-year speaker at the Alumni Banquet. He will speak on perseverance and how he used setbacks as chances to learn to grow.

50-year representatives speak on accomplishments

Caryn Blanc’ 75 and Peggy Hendricks’ 75 will be giving the 50-year reunion speech at the Alumni Banquet.

“I was very active in Berlin High School’s music program and have fond memories of the high school band program. I played the French horn,” Blanc said.

Hendricks says her favorite memories from Berlin High School were her friends and the laughs that they all shared together.

“My biggest life lessons are one, to always try to do your best. Two, be honest with yourself and others. You will make mistakes. Own them. Three, not everyone is going to like you or be your friend. However, everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect,” Blanc said. Never knowing what life is going to throw at someone can be stressful, but what may seem impossible could always become a reality in the future.

“Looking back, the teachers and classmates that I was with each day have proven to be some really solid and talented individuals. They taught me so much and helped me grow,” Kuklinski said. “I drew a lot of inspiration from them even after high school graduation. I think of lessons I learned to this very day.”

Kuklinski says perseverance and making mistakes is what helped him grow.

“Everyone says it is all about hard

work, and it certainly is one of the ingredients, but I owe quite a lot to perseverance. I had plenty of stumbles along the way. However, no matter what setbacks I encountered, I was able to regroup and press forward. I also used a lot of those setbacks as chances to learn and grow,” Kuklinski said.

Kuklinski says his speech has multiple facets, but the main message is to embrace personal authenticity.

“Embrace who you are and follow the unique gifts we all have. We all have good things to give to the world, so why not focus and hone those gifts so you can be of the most benefit and service to the world,” Kuklinski said.

“If I could say something to the class of ‘25 it would be education is critical as you look forward to self-sufficiency. You have a good foundation from BHS, but you can’t stop there. You may have your heart set on a specific field after graduation. But keep your options open. Some of the best career opportunities will be those you probably know very little about today,” Blanc said.

Blanc and Hendricks both hope their class is doing great, and recognize all the accomplishments their classmates have.

“It is very rare for a young person to know exactly what they want to do with their life at this stage. Many of you will enter more than one career throughout your life. Never be afraid of furthering your education, no matter what age you are,” Hendricks said. “But, whatever you decide, I think the secret is to love what you do. If you do, you will be guaranteed success.

Math teacher Diane Emmrich and first grade teacher Diane Trochinski are both being honored for 40 years of dedication and hard work as teachers at All Saints Catholic School. Both graduated from Berlin High School before pursuing a career in education in the Berlin area. “I love working with and teaching young students. I love seeing them grow academically and socially throughout the year,” Trochinski said. “Another thing I love about teaching is that every day is a new adventure. No two days are ever alike.”

Teachers watching their

work come to fruition can be one of the most rewarding aspects of their job.

“What I love most about teaching is sharing something love, and watching my students grow and change,” Emmrich said. “I love hearing the success stories they experience later in school, or using their math background to land a great job.”

Doing the same work every day for 40 years could potentially become arduous, but neither Trochinski nor Emmrich have felt that way, as they were able to pursue a career they were passionate about.

“I was very fortunate to

be able to talk about what I love all day, and I always had an audience,” Emmrich said. “Hopefully, my students know that I care about each of them, and have a strong desire to see them succeed in their adult life.”

Connections formed through teaching, whether with colleagues or students, have been a focal point in their lives.

“I have been so blessed over the years to work with and for amazing people,” Trochinski said. “The biggest honor is all the students I have had and gotten to know over the past 40 years.”

Teaching and Learning Grant helps fund 2025 Europe trip

The Berlin Alumni Association awarded seven educational grants so far in the 2024-2025 school year.

F/CE teacher Missy Daubner ‘90 is a member of the Berlin Alumni Association and helps bring grants to the Association.

“Teachers write the grant and submit it to administrators, then submit it to me, and I share it with the Association,” Daubner said. “We determine and vote on whether we will grant it. We try to make more things that teachers’ funds otherwise lack possible for teachers and classrooms alike,

with the help of the grants.”

Counselor Ann Ragus was awarded one of those grants to help with the 2025 Europe trip funds.

“We are using the grant to help pay the bus cost from Berlin to O’Hare Airport,” Ragus said. “It was very expensive, so I wrote the grant for $1,000.”

The money doesn’t appear out of thin air, rather it comes from donations to the Alumni Association.

“This is all made possible by donations to our association.

We are the oldest alumni association in Wisconsin,” Daubner said. “We get donations and we use the money for grants and scholarships.”
