In life many things come and go, but some great achievements deserve to be recognized. For the Berlin High School community, students and staff are proud to be celebrating the accomplishments that high school principal Lynn Mork has achieved serving the Berlin Area School District for over 40 years. “I taught elementary school at Clay Lamberton and at Washington Elementary for 14 years, and at the high school as an assistant principal/principal for 26 years,” Mork said. Having been part of the district for so long, Mork has imparted his passion for education and his wisdom to the other members he works with. “I learned a ton of valuable things from Mr. Mork, which I use on a daily basis as an assistant principal. I will never forget his passion for all things Berlin. He has taught me to always stay cool under any circumstance and to always put the students first in any decision made,” assistant principal Joe Brandl said. As Mork departs, he will be missed dearly by his students, staff and friends. “He is a very kind and compassionate man with a clear vision of what he wants for his school. He sees our school as a family and always acts accordingly. He cares about all aspects of our lives,” math teacher Shawn Erb said. “ When my husband was sick earlier in the year, Mr. Mork walked me across the street and gave me the time to be with him and to see how he was doing as well.”

Principal Lynn Mork will retire this July after serving the district for 40 years. "Family" has been a strong theme throughout his career. To the right is Mork in 1993 with his children Erik and Laura. Mork cares not only for the teachers on a professional level, but also on a personal level. His staff says Mork has always been there to support his faculty. “As my boss, he always allowed and trusted me when I wanted to try something new or pursue something educational outside the high school itself,” science teacher Patrick Arndt said. “He truly allowed me to have wings without a cage in my career, and I am forever thankful.” As a principal, boss and friend, Mork always wanted the

best for everyone who was under his roof. “Mr. Mork has always been incredibly supportive of his staff and students. There has always been the sense from both staff and students that he 'has our backs', and [a sense of ] his unwavering dedication to the all-around well-being of his students,” English teacher Andrew Reise said. “He works hard to see that the students get the best possible education in their classes, but he has also always genuinely cared about their development as well-round-

ed, mentally healthy, morally sound human beings. Finally, I cannot think of Mr. Mork without thinking ‘kindness.’ ‘Above all, be kind' is a lesson he has preached in both his words and his actions for as long as I've known him.” For all the kindness, generosity and love he has given, his school family would like to give him something in return. “We will be sure to have a gathering to celebrate Mr. Mork and his retirement. At this point in time nothing is scheduled as we want to make sure we are

following all CDC guidelines. He deserves to have a huge bash for all he has done for everyone in the district,” Brandl said. As Mork is ready to say goodbye to a home he has known for 40 years, he says he would like to thank the man who gave him the opportunity to do so. “I would personally like to thank Mr. Bob Sillanpaa. 40 years ago he took a chance on a young man fresh out of college to teach in Berlin to start off a great career. It has been a privilege and an honor to be part of the Berlin family,” Mork said.
