Community collaboration a feature in local Australia Day honours Community partnerships shone brightly at the Redlands Coast Australia Day Awards in January. The annual awards honour dedicated and passionate people who work to make Redlands Coast a great place to live. Reconciliation Award joint winners, Quandamooka Traditional Owners Matthew Burns and Minjerribah Moorgumpin Elders-in-Council (MMEIC), embodied the spirit of the awards in their efforts to bring the people of Redlands Coast together. Matthew, pictured right, and MMEIC have passionately worked to promote Quandamooka culture and strong community relationships. An example is their partnership with Redland City Council to deliver an award-winning internal training program aimed at building greater cultural knowledge and collaboration. To date, more than 560 employees have taken part (see p6-7).

Redlands Coast Citizen of the Year Dr Lyn Bishop OAM was recognised at the awards as an inspirational example of strong community connections making a difference. Dr Bishop, who established Sheldon College and grew it into the success it is today, regularly gives of her own time to participate in community, charity and cultural events.
