Pupils have once again achieved outstanding results across all subjects at GCSE level. This year’s results were amongst the best in the school’s history.

SUMMER FETE The sun was shining at the PTA Summer Fete which was thoroughly enjoyed by ever yone.

GREENPOWER GOBLINS A team of Year 6 pupils performed extremely well at the Nissan Test Track, racing against a number of schools from across the North of England. After a driver briefing and safety checks they took part in a slalom race, a drag race and then a race around the oval track.

Judges spoke to all par ticipants on the day and our pupils were awarded a trophy for being the most environmentally aware when making design judgements.

NEW HEAD BOY & HEAD GIRL Matthew and Laura have been appointed the new Head Boy and Head Girl.

They will be taking over from Char les and Jasmin who played an impor tant role in the school, representing Red House pupils over the last year and being involved in many school events and activities. Matthew and Laura said that they are looking forward to the extra responsibility that the position brings; coming up with new ideas and wor king together as a team.

YEAR 11 PROM AFTER ALL THEIR HARD WORK IT WAS TIME FOR YEAR 11 TO CELEBRATE AND ENJOY THEIR PROM AT JUDGES IN YARM.

MATHLETICS The ‘Mathletics’ Concept Masters’ Award was presented to Ankith, Zachar y, Laura, James and Olivia for completing the most activities and achieving over 85%.

Mathletics is an online programme used to enhance mathematical skills.

FESTIVAL OF ACHEIVEMENT THE NURSERY & INFANT SCHOOL CELEBRATED THEIR YEAR AT THE ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF ACHIEVEMENT. George was delighted to receive a letter from Newcastle United Football Club thanking him for his letter and photos of his football waistcoat, which he had designed and modelled for the Red House School Fashion Show.

Each year group described their highlights in front of proud parents, families and teacher s. Delightful music and songs were also performed along with poetr y recitals.

He was even more amazed when he read that his photos were going to be displayed on the player’s notice board, so that they could see his designs too. Well done

FRENCH CAFE Year 3 pupils delighted their parents and relatives with the annual French cafe.

The children took order s in French and ser ved delights such as croissants and pain au chocolat! They even performed songs and poems which they had learnt as par t of their French curriculum.

Cooper Teesside MINI came to the rescue of 24 of our Year 11 pupils to ensure that they arrived to their Prom - and in style!

After discovering that their transpor t had suddenly fallen through, Owen Brown, Dealer Principle, at Cooper Teesside MINI kindly provided them with 8 MINI Cooper s, including chauffeur s, to transpor t them to their prom!

Fifty-one pupils par ticipated in LAMDA (London Academy of Music & Dramatic Ar ts) Speech and Drama examinations, provided by Enter CIC . LAMDA is an internationally renowned organisation providing young people with academic qualifications and life skills. The par tner ship resulted in an exemplar y 100% success r ate with 94% achieving the A* of LAMDA qualifications; the ‘Distinction’ grade .

OUTSTANDING GCSE RESULTS PUPILS HAVE ONCE AGAIN ACHIEVED OUTSTANDING RESULTS ACROSS ALL SUBJECTS AT GCSE LEVEL AND THIS YEARS RESULTS WERE AMONGST THE BEST IN THE SCHOOL’S HISTORY.

61% of the GCSE exams taken were A or A* grade , with 28% achieving the highest grade of A*

7 of the 37 pupils achieved an A or A* in ever y subject; 85% gained A* to B grades and 97% gained A* to C grades.

JASMIN ABBOTT AND ARYAN ROGHATI WERE DELIGHTED TO GAIN A*S IN ALL 11 GCSE’S TAKEN. Subjects in which pupils par ticular ly excelled included art,

BRINGING LEARNING TO LIFE KEEPING TEETH HEALTHY During National Smiles month Dr Lane, from Queensway Dental Clinic, came to talk to the children about how to look after their teeth.

They learnt the impor tance of regular ly visiting a dentist, br ushing their teeth for two minutes twice a day and were shown different food and drink that are high and low in sugar.

CRICKET This was an exceptional season for two principle reasons. Firstly, we managed to play some cricket because the weather was unusually kind and, secondly, the enthusiasm for this sport is growing all the time and the quality of performance was unusually high, especially at the younger end of the school.

ATHLETICS

Indeed, we were nur sing an unbeaten record into the last week of fixtures. An unbeaten season at all age groups, from U10 to U15, would have been an achievement unrivalled in the last thir ty year s.

Defeats in our last two games of the season were , therefore , ver y hard to bear, but 15 wins out of 17 matches is still a record of which to be ver y proud.

There were many moments to savour during the season. Sam Nor th’s fine 60 against Terrington. Sam Nor th and Sam Kor sen’s brilliant 91 r un par tner ship against Durham Chorister s, with Nor th eventually unbeaten on 50 and Kor sen 45. Ben Swindale’s breathtaking innings of 78 not out in the U11’s famous victor y against Barnard Castle .

The U10’s and U11’s did, indeed, enjoy a 100% record this year which included wins against Newcastle School for Boys, Terrington Hall, Barnard Castle and a previously unbeaten Bow School.

TENNIS We enter an U13 and U15 team in the Stockton and District Leagues and always face ver y stiff opposition.

The U15s struggled but the U13s were competitive in ever y match. A hard fought win against Yarm was certainly the highlight!

SWIMMING Sam Dixon managed a ver y respectable 2nd in the U20’s individual fly at the ISA National Swimming in Coventr y. He also played his part in the IM Relay team swimming the fly leg, for which they came 2nd and finally the freestyle relay which was a thrilling race, as they managed to just beat the Midlands taking gold and were only a fraction off breaking the record!

NETBALL We are proud to have many strong school-club links that help our pupils take another step towards developing their skills and confidence within their sport of choice.

Notably this year we have seen an increase in the number of gir ls who have taken the oppor tunity to become involved within local netball clubs. This has been mirrored by lots of per sonal and team successes. Congratulations gir ls!

ORIENTEERING At Summerhill Park Will Baker and Jamie Darnton came a pleasing 2nd and Tom Hearmon 5th on the white course.

GEOGRAPHY & BIOLOGY TRIP TO ROBIN HOODS BAY Investigating the rocky foreshore and profiling the beach at Robin Hoods Bay were just some of the tasks that Year 8 pupils undertook whilst on their field trip.

BIG SING Years 3 & 4 had lots of fun taking part in the Big Sing at The Sage Gateshead. The event involved over 2,000 children from across the region. The theme was ‘The Big Sing Goes West’ which included a variety of songs from North America.

Thank you to Mr McReddie and Mr s Tayler for all the tutoring prior to the main performance .

Whilst in Gateshead the pupils visited the Baltic where they took par t in an ar t wor kshop and a tour of the galleries.

The pupils also inspected the types of sea defences that were in place and discovered how these are used to protect the coast from erosion.

ORMESBY HALL

POND DIPPING

As part of their histor y topic on ‘Houses and Homes’ children from Year 1 visited Ormesby Hall.

Children had fun pond dipping at Billingham Beck where they recorded a huge assortment of tiny creatures.

They also climbed all 76 steps at Souter Lighthouse to see the amazing views at the top whilst learning how the lighthouse wor ks.

BOLTON CASTLE Year 7 experienced being Elizabethans at Bolton Castle and learning about its 600 years of histor y along with its ver y famous visitor - Mar y Queen of Scots.

They under took pike drills in the cour tyard, made ‘plague bags’, tried calligraphy and had an historical lunch. They even learnt some traditional dancing in the same hall where Mar y Queen of Scots used to hold cour t.

YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY FIELD TRIP

Year 6 visited Hadrian’s Wall as part of their studies on the Romans.

Year 10 visited the Lake District, as part of their Geography Field Trip.

Pupils under took numerous tasks which included measuring the river and collecting data on its width, depth, velocity, bedload size and wetted perimeter. They learnt how the local centre , where they stayed, uses the river to produce some of their electricity.

FRANCE Pupils enjoyed a recent trip to France where they visited Amboise, Chenonceaux and Loches (Loire valley castles), the picturesque village of Montrésor, which was once voted the most beautiful village in France, and also Poitiers and Le Mans.

OUTWARD BOUND Year 6 spent an action packed weekend in the Lake District where they undertook a variety of challenges which tested their mental and physical abilities and developed their communication and teamwork skills.

Tasks included, raft building, canoeing on Derwent Water, rock climbing at Penrith and gyll scrambling, which involved jumping off waterfalls and diving into icy water!

Reception children saw lots of different sea creatures and even got to touch some of them during their trip to the Blue Reef Aquarium.

HADRIAN’S WALL

The day included a visit to Br unton Turret, Chester s For t and Milecastle 37, which allowed them to see the different buildings that were put along the wall. They also visited the Roman Army museum where they watched a 3D film ‘Edge of Empire - The Eagle’s eye’.

They were shown what it was like for children living in Victorian Britain and were fascinated with how our toys are so different to those in the past.
