The Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Heritage presents Little Voice by Bahraini artist Waheeda Malullah. The exhibit showcases Waheeda’s photography works for the first time in a retrospective format. Characterised by playful exploration and reverberating with childlike curiosity, her artworks see the world through children’s eyes, echoing their innocence and hopes for the future. In particular, her work examines the world of girls and women in her community, their cultural and religious norms and the rules and systems that govern their lives. Waheeda’s installations, videos and photographs have been a stalwart of the Bahraini art scene over the years. The exhibition features over 70 photographs surveying her work from its early days in 2003 to the present day. Waheeda’s work has been exhibited extensively both regionally and internationally. UNDERSTANDING AUTISM When? April 3-5 Event? Conference: Untangle Autism Venue? Isa Cultural Centre The Fourth International Conference on autism will be held early this month from April 3-5 at the Isa Cultural Centre. Organised by the Bahrain Society for Children with Behavioral & Communication Difficulties, this bi-annual conference, under the theme of Untangle Autism, will bring together educators; researchers; service providers and practitioners; people with an autism spectrum disorder; families and carers from the across the globe. It will inspire participants by providing opportunities to build relationships, explore intervention strategies, learn about new research developments and celebrate experiences and achievements as well as raise awareness about autism spectrum disorders (ASD). There will be a strong focus on presentations covering current and emerging research, clinical and educational practice and intervention and the everyday life experiences and achievements of people with ASD, families and others in the ASD community. One for fitness rookies and seasoned veterans, the Spartan Race is designed to push you and your team to tap into your highest potential and greatest strengths. The Spartan Sprint is an Adventure Obstacle Course run, with elements of surprise for the contestants as they crawl through the mud, under barbed wire, pull each other over obstacles and hurl spears. Participants can expect fire jumps, rope climbs, traverse walls, mud and, essentially, a true adventure, leaving you exhilarated and empowered in ways you have never experienced before. The Elite heat is for competitors aiming for a podium win and the cash prizes, starting at 8am, whereas the non-competitive Open heats will release approximately 100 people with each heat at 15 minute corrals, starting as early as 8.15am. People can take part in teams of three (minimum) or individually and register directly on the website, but those vying to run in the Elite heat cannot do it as part of a team. The cost to enter is anywhere from BD 35+ to BD 56+ for the adults (varied categories: elite and open) and BD15+ for the Junior race (ages 4-14). LIKE FATHER, LIKE SON When? April 6-May 31 Event? Paintings Exhibition: ‘Father and Son’ by Kamal Abdullah Ali Al Abdulla and Yaqoob Kamal Al Abdulla Venue? InTouch Gallery A fun and unique exhibit will feature the works of father and son artists, Kamal Abdullah Ali Al Abdulla and Yaqoob Kamal Al Abdulla. This paired Father and Son paintings exhibition will feature both artists’ works side-by-side at the InTouch Gallery, located in InTouch Integrated Chiropractic Spine Center, Janabiya. Kamal, who has exhibited in Bahrain, France, Oman, Morocco, Athens and Qatar, works in colourful acrylic, mixed media and collage. While his son, Yaqoob, who is a student at Kanoo International School, uses paint or markers to create singular and imaginative scenes. The exhibition timings are from 7pm-9.30pm.
