Initially released on May 3rd, 2011, the critically-acclaimed Variations fantômes is inspired by classical music themes from Ravel, Strauss, Schubert and Vivaldi, to name a few. Following the exploration, introspection and reinterpretation of the works of these artists, Philippe B was guided by beauty, melancholy, faith, love and death when writing the lyrics of the very personal pieces that make up Variations fantômes, which has ultimately become his seminal album. With his unique way of stringing words together to create vivid imagery, the award-winning Québécoissinger-songwritertellsstoriesfilledwithpassion,remorseand torment.
Samples, passages lifted, from canonical pieces, melodies, anecdotes from the life of a composer, and even the titles of certain oeuvres all found their way onto the album. Philippe B pairs his poetic lyrics with a modern folk that is both moving and intense. The result is a harmonious mix of guitars, keys and violins; a musical dialogue between the singer-songwriterandtheghostsofgreatcomposers.
One of the most remarkable records ever recorded here in Quebec. (CBC Radio)
It’s easily one of the best productions - fascinating really - of the year. (Montreal Gazette)
Philippe B transcends the folk pop restraints and reveals songs that could be as moving as poems or short stories. (Hour Community)
Superbe. Si on me tire les oreilles assez fort, j'avouerai que c'est un des plus beaux de l'année. (Voir)
Variations fantômes est une très grande réussite, d’un bout à l’autre (Le Devoir)

WORDS FROM JARVIS COCKER ON “MORE”
This is the first Pulp album since “We Love Life” in 2001. Yes: the first Pulp album for 24 years. How did that happen?
Well: when we started touring again in 2023 we practiced a new song called “Hymn of the North” during soundchecks & eventually played it at the end of our second night at Hammersmith Odeon. This seemed to open the floodgates: we came up with the rest of the songs on this album during the first half of 2024. A couple are revivals of ideas from last century. The music for one song was written by Richard Hawley. The music for another was written by Jason Buckle. The Eno family sing backing vocals on a song. There are string arrangements written by Richard Jones & played by the Elysian Collective.
The album was recorded over 3 weeks by James Ford in Walthamstow, London, starting on November 18th 2024. This is the shortest amount of time a Pulp album has ever taken to record. It was obviously ready to happen. These are the facts.
We hope you enjoy the music. It was written & performed by four human beings from the North of England, aided & abetted by five other human beings from various locations in the British Isles. No A.I. was involved during the process.
This album is dedicated to Steve Mackey. This is the best that we can do.
Thanks for listening.

North Mississippi Allstars was founded by brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson in 1996 as a loose collective of musicians from North Mississippi and Memphis, TN, inspired by their neighbors, RL Burnside, Junior Kimbrough, Otha Turner and the late Fred McDowell. Over the years the touring lineup has included, Cedric, Duwayne and Garry Burnside, Chris Chew, Berry Oakley Jr, Oteil Burbridge, Ray Ray Hollowman (guitar player for Eminem and Ne-Yo), and currently Joey Williams (of the Blind Boys of Alabama). Since their Grammy nominated debut album in 2000 they have toured the world, shared the stage with countless legends, Mavis Staples, Robert Plant, John Hiatt, the Allman Brothers, Buddy Guy, Snoop Dogg, and Phil Lesh to name a few, while earning multiple Grammy nominations for their experimental albums of Psychedelic folk roots rock.
“Still Shakin’ is a celebration of their life-changing first album Shake Hands with Shorty, released 25 years ago. They dipped into the North Mississippi repertoire and experience of the 90’s, touring with RL Burnside, recording Otha Turner, hanging at Junior’s Juke, filtering new interpretations thru their current instincts. The well never runs dry and the cast of characters never fails.
They recorded their 2nd generation friends Duwayne Burnside and Robert Kimbrough at Duwaynes Juke Joint in Holly Springs. The Sacred Steel Guitar of bandmates Ray Ray Hollowman and Kashiah Hunter blessed the music alongside the vocals and rhythm of Joey Williams, from the Blind Boys of Alabama. Their albums meld music to come but are always a snapshot of who they are running with presently. That to say, Ray Ray and Joey have enriched NMA’s music for the last few years and they cherish their contributions to Still Shakin’. The group look forward to the next 25 years of North Mississippi World Boogie.

Chicago’s LIFEGUARD release their debut album Ripped and Torn on June 6. The youthful trio of Asher Case, Isaac Lowenstein, and Kai Slater have been making music together since they were in high school, nearly a quarter of their lives. Noisy and immediate, cryptic but heartfelt, they draw inspiration from punk, dub, power-pop and experimental sounds, and bring them all together in explosive inspiration.
Over their two prior summers on Matador, Lifeguard’s EPs carefully documented the band’s early, earnest, studio explorations. But their tremendous live shows, anchored by Lowenstein’s rock-steady backbeat, hinted that something greater was waiting in the wings. On Ripped and Torn, the barbed-wire sound frames Slater and Case’s newly rich two-part harmonies and collagiste lyrics. Producer Randy Randall (No Age) captures a claustrophobic scrappiness that conjures the feeling and energy of the house parties and live shows, where ears are easily overwhelmed, and ragged improvisations connect with the same force as melodic hooks.
The band remains a singular and intimate space where freedom, noise, and melody find visceral form. “The physical element is something we’re all very together on,” explains Slater. “The immediacy of making music. The instant pleasure and satisfaction of it.”

Are you ready to experience the definitive death metal album?
Deicide’s 1990 self-titled debut is not just one of the genre’s top-selling releases (if it’s not #1, it’s top three); it’s also a staggering philosophical and artistic statement. “Uncompromising” is definitely the appropriate if euphemistic term to describe its stance on organized religion, which doesn’t just include Christianity but also Charles Manson (“Lunatic of God’s Creation”) and Jim Jones (“Carnage in the Temple of the Damned”). But it’s “Sacrificial Suicide” and “Dead by Dawn,” which references the Evil Dead movie for maybe the slightest hint of levity on what is a very black album, that have become stone-cold classics. The ferocity of the lyrics is matched if not surpassed by the musical attack, featuring piercing twin guitar leads from brothers Eric and Brian Hoffman, and bassist/lead singer Glen Benton’s evil exhortations. The real hero—or antihero—of the band, though, just might be drummer Steve Asheim, whose double kick drum “blastbeat” barrages defy belief. Remastered for vinyl by Mike Milchner of Sonic Vision, Deicide comes in metallic red and white “centurion” vinyl, complete with an insert with lyrics. Metal was never the same after this record…
ALDEN SHUMAN: The Devil in Miss Jones —Original Soundtrack Recording
(Limited Hellfire Vinyl Edition)
STREET DATE: JUNE 6, 2025
There was a time, back in the ‘70s before it became the ubiquitous, mass-produced product it is today, that pornography made a bid to become taken seriously as an art form. And it was this film, The Devil in Miss Jones, that made the biggest leap forward both commercially and artistically. Made by Gerard Damiano after his success with Deep Throat, and based on Jean-Paul Sartre’s play No Exit, the film tells the story of a lonely spinster who, after she commits suicide, is denied entrance to heaven and is condemned to limbo. She then decides she’d rather go back to earth and “earn” her place in hell by practicing the deadly sin of lust. The Devil in Miss Jones wound up being the seventh highest-grossing film of 1973, and set new standards for production value and, yes, musical scoring. Alden Shuman’s soundtrack wasn’t the usual monotonous wah-wah of the time, but a sweeping, panoramic, and plaintive score played by piano and full orchestra. It’s never been reissued on LP before; our Real Gone release comes in limited (to 900 copies) hellfire vinyl that you can watch spin…for eternity.

This 1993 album has only been out on vinyl in South Korea, and that release squeezed this 55-minute-plus record on to a single disc, which is just plain getting away with (ahem) murder! So fans of this band have been screaming (sorry, can’t resist) blue murder for the release of Nothin’ but Trouble in proper 2-LP fashion, which we have pressed in blue with black cat swirl vinyl in honor of the unfortunate feline in the clutches of the little menace on the front cover. This is another one of those great, early ‘90s metal albums that got lost in the grunge shuffle, and it’s more melodic than most; band leader and songwriter

In the early 1970s, Dusty Springfield relocated from her native England to Los Angeles in an effort to pursue new opportunities in her career and signed with ABC/Dunhill Records. Her 1973 album Cameo showcased Springfield’s soulful pop in splendid fashion but failed to generate significant traction outside of Billboard’s Adult Contemporary listings. For her sophomore project with the label the following year, Dusty travelled to New York to team with producer Brooks Arthur, renowned for his work with Phil Spector’s 1960s coterie of girl singers,
For Longing, Arthur chose to frame Dusty in the 1970s singer-songwriter milieu, surrounding her with material from Colin Blunstone (“Exclusively for Me”), Melissa Manchester & Carole Bayer Sager (“Home to Myself”), Janis Ian (“In the Winter”), Stephen Schwartz (“Corner of the Sky”), Chi Coltrane (“Turn Me Around”), Barry Manilow (“I Am Your Child”) and others. In many cases, the songwriters themselves contributed directly by playing keyboards on their respective creations at Arthur’s famed 911 Studios. Bruce Springsteen was also known to sit in on some of the sessions in admiration.
As the sessions wound down in the summer of 1974, Dusty found herself suffering from emotional exhaustion and professional uncertainty. She subsequently chose to put the album on the shelf and part ways with the label, ultimately re-recording a pair of the tracks when she signed to United Artists Records a few years later.
In 2001, under the supervision of producer Arthur, nine of the ten tracks he recorded with Dusty were released on CD as part of a collection of her ABC/Dunhill period. A tenth track (“Corner of the Sky” from the Broadway musical Pippin) was reworked as a duet with Petula Clark and included on a pair of her anthologies. Now, all ten tracks make their vinyl debut, including the first-ever solo release of “Corner of the Sky” along with new mixes for eight of the other selections for this dual CD & LP release.
The haunting beauty of “In the Winter,” the warm affirmation of “Home to Myself,” the soulful intimacy of “Exclusively for Me,” the tender romanticism of “Beautiful Soul,” the raw energy of “A Love Like Yours” and the heartbreaking vulnerability of “I Am Your Child” demonstrate Dusty at the peak of her professional powers while suffering from personal insecurities, giving these recordings a unique power and poignancy.
Includes vintage artwork and other rare images along with track-by-track annotations by noted Dusty expert and author Paul Howes. Mastered by Mike Milchner at Sonic Vision. Pressed on ecofriendly PET black plastic for its LP debut!

Virtually no other album anywhere in history is known to its audience by its label number. Not Kind of Blue, nor Pet Sounds, Glenn Gould’s Goldberg Variations, none.
Except this one. Rounder 44. Probably the most seminal bluegrass album of all time. Notice we didn’t say modern bluegrass, though it originally came out in 1975. That’s because, unlike, say, Aereo Plain by John Hartford (who contributed notes to the original package, reproduced here), The New South didn’t reinvent bluegrass. It perfected it. Bandleader and banjoist supreme J.D. Crowe got his start as a teenager in Jimmy Martin’s Sunny Mountain Boys, before returning to Kentucky and forming The Kentucky Mountain Boys. That band morphed over the years to become The New South, boasting probably the most formidable line-up any American band of any genre has enjoyed. Bassist Bob Sloane (of The Kentucky Colonels) was the first to join, followed by one legend after another: fiddle and mandolin player Ricky Skaggs, dobroist Jerry Douglas, and guitarist/vocalist Tony Rice. Together, they were pure magic: technically brilliant but soulful, inventive but disciplined, each a virtuoso but still part of the unit. And, oh, those harmonies! The New South is the cornerstone of any bluegrass collection. Of course, a group this talented wasn’t destined to last long. Within a year, each member went their own way, pioneering progressive bluegrass with each successive project. But the one album they recorded together, Rounder 44, is THE ONE. Our Real Gone reissue of The New South features two sets of added liner notes, one by guitarist Skip Heller and one by mandolinist Jarrod Walker, along with the bonus tracks “Why Don’t You Tell Me So” and “Cryin’ Holy” with Emmylou Harris. We’re pressing 1000 copies of this classic in root beer vinyl…don’t you dare miss it!
STREET DATE: JUNE 6, 2025 JOE HENDERSON AND WOODY SHAW:
“Diamond in the rough” doesn’t begin to describe the number of carats this long-lost jazz treasure wields, nor the depths of its humble origins. Originally released in 1982 on the budget Everest label, Jazz Patterns was all-too-carelessly assembled collection of 1970 live recordings from saxophonist Joe Henderson’s Quintet, re-titled to give trumpeter Woody Shaw co-billing to capitalize on his subsequent commercial success. A few copies were made, sold for under 5 bucks each, and that was that. But, as Skip Heller’s liner notes (which we’ve added) reveal, what this shoddy little package (it didn’t even have the correct song titles for two of the tracks and misspelled the one it got right) actually contained was, get this, previously unreleased performances from the same September 24-26, 1970 stand at The Lighthouse Café in Hermosa Beach that yielded Henderson’s revered 1970 release If You’re Not Part of the Solution, You’re Part of the Problem! Turns out Milestone label head Orrin Keepnews had turned around and sold these 2-track reference mixes (recorded by Bernie Grundman!) to Everest owner Bernie Solomon, who went ahead and did his usual down-market, take the money and run thing. That’s George Cables on electric piano, Ron McClure on bass, and Lenny White (using a bass drum fashioned from an oil can) on drums, by the way. We’re reissuing this fantastic post-bop find for the first time ever, complete with the aforementioned liner notes, the correct song titles, and a new remastering job by Kevin Chubirka that sounds about a hundred times better than the original. Dig you must!

With long-standing stints in Tower of Power and Santana, Chester Thompson just might be the most decorated and distinguished keyboardist in all of rock and R&B, let alone of the Bay Area musical scene. It’s little wonder that this 1971 album, then, is one of the rarest and most coveted albums on the highly collectible Black Jazz Records label—it’s Thompson’s debut record, cut a couple of years before he joined Tower of Power, with a smokin’ band featuring fellow Black Jazz recording artist Rudolph Johnson on sax along with ace drummer Raymond Pounds (Pharoah Sanders, Stevie Wonder, Pointer Sisters) and trombonist Al Hall (Johnny Hammond, Freddie Hubbard, Eddie Harris). And, yes, Powerhouse comes by its title honestly…it’s jazz, all right, but injected with a jolt of electricity courtesy of Thompson’s Hammond B-3, and with just four tunes spread out over two sides, it’s pretty much a nonstop groove. Liner notes feature quotes from fellow Tower of Power member Dave Garibaldi and Bay Area keyboardist Todd Cochran a.k.a. Bayeté that testify as to Chester Thompson’s greatness. Blue with black swirl pressing limited to 750 copies!

This 1975 album is one of a kind in lots of ways. First, it’s keyboardist Roland Haynes’ only album. But more importantly, Second Wave has a sound—and line-up— unlike pretty much any other jazz fusion album to come out before or since. Anchored by a fantastic rhythm section of Carl Burnett (Cal Tjader, Vince Guaraldi and most notably Gene Harris and The Three Sounds) and Henry “The Skipper” Franklin (leader on a couple of Black Jazz titles, plus Ornette Coleman, Don Cherry, Hugh Masekela, and many others), the album features dueling Fender Rhodes tickled by Haynes and Kirk Lightsey, who played with everyone from Chet Baker to Pharoah Sanders to Sonny Stitt, not to mention a bunch of Black Jazz dates. The cascading sound of the two electric pianos, one (Lightsey’s) often driven through a wah-wah pedal, gives Second Wave a special vibe all its own; there are not horns or guitars getting in the way of these mindblowing keyboard jams. Some folks might hear a little ‘70s-era Miles Davis when Joe Zawinul, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and/ or Herbie Hancock were in the band, and Hancock’s own Head Hunters album comes to mind (as well later fusion dudes like Jan Hammer and Bill Bruford), but Second Wave is sui generis. Our Real Gone reissue features liner notes by Pat Thomas, author of Listen, Whitey! The Sights and Sounds of Black Power 1965-1975, that include a couple of quotes from drummer Burnett and bassist Franklin. Blue with black swirl pressing limited to 750 copies!

After Buzzcocks disbanded in 1981, frontman Pete Shelley teamed up with Martin Rushent , embracing the producer’s newly acquired synths and drum machines to rework his tracks, crafting a new blueprint for electronic pop music in the process. A production blueprint that would soon achieve massive mainstream success with another Rushent production; Dare by the Human League.
Across both LPs, Shelley combines his urgent songwriting with chugging synthesisers and electronic percussion creating records that straddle rock radio and London’s nascent club scene. These albums sound as fresh today as they did upon release, but the innovative nature of Homosapien and XL-1 has been overlooked. Overshadowed by the influence of Pete’s former band and by the Human League’s runaway hit, not helped by the BBC banning the ‘Homosapien’ single on homophobic grounds (though it became an electro LGBT anthem in gay dance clubs). Domino reissues both albums as standalone double LPs, housed in gatefold sleeves with new liner notes by Clinton Heylin.
"It is like a dialogue between me and myself. I put in the deep dark feelings and what I gain out of the music helps give me a release to keep me sane” - Pete Shelley, to Richard Cook, NME April 1983.

INFORMATION:
Venetian Snares’ sought-after classic 2005 orchestral breakcore album is reissued on limited edition Black Vinyl for it’s 20th Anniversary.
What if, for just a day, we could both be pigeons?
Sometimes one moment in time can take on such an important significance that it becomes an endless world unto itself and everything outside of that moment, past and future spots in time, become the folklore of that world.
What if we could both fly over the Királyi Palota and see it just as these pigeons do? A beautiful culture of dissimilar angles as donkey angels above this city.
But even in the world of the infinite moment, we cannot choose the feather of our bird and the pigeon may long to be the goose, the donkey the pigeon and so on.
Furthermore as our world blossoms out of this single tick in time, it is for one pigeon a swirling romantic flood of euphoric possibility and fascination, for the other an inferior life of shitting on everyone from the sky, awkward and ashamed, resigning themselves to be the wretched nuisance they are painted as by those they shit on.
Ultimately, as quickly as our world blooms, our world is discordant, and our pigeons are wounded, and as our world dies, we die, and we are extinct. If only we could kill ourselves over and over until we get it right.
So just as an entire genre of music can be born out of one sped up ten second breakbeat, a full symphony orchestra can come together in harmonic unison to create that perfect moment in time, thus every moment can give birth to an entirely new world, and every world can house the perfect moment, and just as that breakbeat may be broken beyond any recognition, that orchestra may combine to bring forth a dissonant barrage of colossal sorrow, and so the moment disintegrates it's world and that world suffocates the moment under
For Fans Of: Portishead, Tom Waits, David Lynch
The new, self-titled album from Grammy® Nominated, New York-based composer and percussionist Eli Keszler Having collaborated in recent years with Oneohtrix Point Never, Skrillex, Rashad Becker and Laurel Halo, Keszler has also scored for films like Olmo Schnabel's Pet Shop Days (2023), Lotfy Nathan’s Harka (2022), Dasha Nekrasova’s The Scary of Sixty First (2021) and made contributions to Daniel Lopatin’s score for Uncut Gems (2019)
Following on from critically-acclaimed albums Icons and Stadium, his latest is a freewheeling, Lynchian song-cycle in which Keszler’s virtuosic performances traverse a living landscape of abstract electronic sound The album breathes, creaks and sighs through its twelve tracks: noirish jazz torch songs give way to skittering drums and cinematic, dubbed-out textures; the lyrics whispered and cried by near-inaudible voices, as if from a distant room. Featuring guest appearances from singer Sofie Royer and saxophonist Sam Gendel.

Welcome to Landlady’s Make Up / Lost Time, where traditional orchestral sounds are as vital as the glitchy synthesizers and long-lost sound-effects seeping in through the cracks in the walls. Flanked by an all-star cast of collaborators—Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado, Wye Oak’s Jenn Wasner, Big Thief’s Buck Meek—Schatz’s songwriting prowess seems to level up in front of your very ears as the LP progresses in a way that suggests there is no ceiling. Equal parts Vampire Weekend, The Roches, Flaming Lips, and Randy Newman, Schatz knows how to mangle mundane and miserable moments into raw, unforgettable pop hooks. The song “At Odds” declares, “Your money’s no good here / it’s never good anywhere” and, guess what kids, it just so happens to double as a statement on the album itself: big budgets don’t create this kind of musical triumph, only imagination and elbow grease do. In fact, if the LP title can be read as a mission statement, then the listener is bound to conclude these 45 beautiful minutes with a stunned declaration of “mission accomplished.”

“... he fearlessly confronts systems of oppression, inviting listeners to join him in the fight for equality. Ryan Cassata isn’t just a musician; he’s a force to be reckoned with.” – OFM
In his debut LP with Kill Rock Stars, Greetings from Echo Park, Ryan Cassata (he/him), a genre-defying powerhouse musician and activist, constructs a raw collection of folk punk, blues, and pop punk songs that soundtrack stories of anxiety, escapism, illness, and transphobia. The album is due out June 6th, 2025.
In Greetings from Echo Park, Cassata has seemingly spent the past few years swallowing down all the feelings of isolation and anxiety he could hold. Now he’s spitting it back up like bile. The result is a rich mosaic of influences and voices, bringing in collaborators such as Jason Hiller, David Scott Stone (Melvins, LCD Soundsystem), Mark Pelli (MAGIC!), and utilizing styles from emo pop-punk to Springsteen-style guitar. The album art even plays homage to Bruce Springsteen's iconic Greetings from Asbury Park.
Partially written and recorded while battling an autoimmune illness and Lyme Disease coinfections, the album serves as both a cathartic release and a deeply personal chronicle of survival. Songs like “a Knack for Overthinking” capture the relentless grip of anxiety, blending emo pop-punk with confessional lyricism. “I’ve got a knack for overthinking, tip me over so you can stop the shout,” Cassata sings, embodying the push-and-pull of intrusive thoughts and self-doubt. Elsewhere, tracks like “i feel like throwing up” reflect on the isolation of sickness, featuring trans youth actors in its accompanying music video to highlight the systemic loneliness queer people often endure.
Ryan Cassata’s music has long been intertwined with activism; he is an award-winning singer-songwriter, actor, performer, published writer, LGBTQ+ activist, and transgender motivational speaker. With over 650 performances nationwide and internationally and seven original and critically-acclaimed musical albums, Cassata is proud to be recognized as the first openly-trans performer at the Vans Warped Tour, in addition to featured performances at Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Green Show, Global Pride, and SXSW. He has been praised by The Advocate Magazine as a “Transgender singing sensation.” Paper Magazine included Cassata on their "50 LGBTQ Musicians You Should Prioritize" list, and LOGO’s New Now Next included him on the “9 Trans Musicians You Need To Get Into” list. Billboard Magazine has referred to him as a “true force in the industry,” honoring him as one of the esteemed "11 Transgender & Non-Binary Musicians You Need to Know".

Indonesian trio Grrrl Gang build on their considerable worldwide buzz with Spunky!, their full-length debut album. Released on 27 September 2023 by Green Island Music in partnership with exclusive licensees Kill Rock Stars (for North and South America), Trapped Animal Records (UK and EU) and Big Romantic Records (Japan and Taiwan), the album is preceded by its title track and first single which drops on May 31.
Spunky! arrives following some major life changes for Angeeta Sentana (vocals, guitar), Akbar Rumandung (bass, vocals) and Edo Alventa (guitar, vocals), including a switch in locale from Yogyakarta, the city where they formed the band while still in college. “This is Grrrl Gang’s first release after we graduated and got day jobs that made us have to move to Jakarta, which is undeniably 180 degrees compared to Yogya,” says Rumandung. “But moving to Jakarta enabled us to work with Lafa on Spunky! from start to finish.”
Overall, Spunky! is the sound of a band not content to rest on its laurels, despite gathering an impressive list of achievements since Grrrl Gang first got together in 2016 and proceeded to take the local, regional, and international indie scenes by storm, leading to a prestigious performance slot on the pandemic-induced online edition of SXSW 2021 and an A- review that esteemed music critic Robert Christgau bestowed upon Here to Stay!, the 2020 compilation of their early singles. According to Rumandung, “We want this album to show that we’ve changed, that Grrrl Gang is a band that isn’t stuck in one place and that we always have the urge to discover new things.”
In other words, Spunky! proves that Grrrl Gang are – to borrow a familiar phrase – here to stay.

Marconi Union, one of the most infuential names in contemporary ambient and electronic music, announce their twelfth studio album, The Fear of Never Landing, set for release 6th June via Just Music
Known for their ability to craft cinematic, immersive soundscapes that blur the lines between ambient, electronic, and experimental music, the Manchester-based duo once again push the boundaries of sonic exploration. The Fear of Never Landing takes us on a dynamic journey that's atmospheric, diaphanous and never short of mesmerising.
Formed in Manchester in 2003, their debut album, Under Wires and Searchlights (2003), introduced their signature sound, but it was their 2011 release of Weightless that brought international acclaim. Developed in collaboration with a sound therapist, Weightless was scientifcally recognised as "the world's most relaxing song", praised for its ability to reduce anxiety and heart rates. With over 900 million streams and widespread coverage across media, the track remains a cultural phenomenon.
With The Fear of Never Landing, Marconi Union once again showcases their unmatched ability to create immersive soundscapes that resonate deeply. The album reafrms their position as masters of atmosphere and emotional storytelling, making it an essential addition to their storied catalog - A 55-minute odyssey presented as one seamless piece divided into nine movements.

Ambre Ciel is a composer, violinist, pianist and singer who hails from Montreal, Canada and is a purveyor of dreamy, expansive, spacious pop music that draws influence from the contemporary classical influenced artists such as Agnes Obel, Patrick Watson, Sufjan Stevens and Thom Yorke. As well as the impressionist world of Debussy and American minimalists such as Phillip Glass and Steve Reich and in addition mentions ‘music that breathes’ from such artists as Gyða Valtýsdóttir, JFDR, or the collaborative work of Jónsi and Alex Somers.
Ambre who sings in both her native French and English hails from a family of singers and artists, “I started my journey learning violin at six and began experimenting with pedal effects and looping melodies later on”. University followed with a focus on composition and recording “That’s when I started exploring composing and songwriting more deeply both the world of sounds in itself and songs built mostly with layers of violin and voice. It was also during this time that I returned to my ‘first’ instrument, the piano, which opened more harmonic possibilities.”
For Ambre, her debut album still, there is the sea, represents a beginning, a first and she says imperfect attempt to create this other world that was living in her mind. She has crafted a beautifully refined ‘pop album’ making a lot of space for strings arrangements and other acoustic instruments, as well as her own beautiful voice. “On a personal level, I was searching for silence. I had just finally moved to a quiet apartment in Montreal and for the first time, I had all the time and space to hear silence and create, being solitary and living in the intangible world of possibilities”.
The enigmatic title of the album, ‘still, there is the sea’, came to Ambre when she realised that water was a subconscious but recurring theme throughout the album in terms of melodies and lyrics: ‘eau miroir’ refers to how the water can be some kind of mirror, ‘cycle’ embodies a cyclical, perpetual movement, ‘atlantis’ refers to this inward looking quest and distancing from the world, ‘sometimes’ has sounds from rain and storm, and refers to a storm happening inside someone’s thoughts. The water element can be very thin, fragile, but it’s always in movement and can resemble a larger and massive current, expansive, and I wanted to move between instrumental and song with this fluidity and was interested in finding ways to create something that could still feel cohesive. It also reflects this entire season of solitude and silence, how to me creating music represents this access to an underworld closer to the realm of dreams, that can be deep, surreal, rich and very grounding too”.
While ‘still, there is the sea’ is very much Ambre’s own personal statement and artistic vision as a composer, arranger and producer, Pietro Amato, a member of Bell Orchestre and The Luyas and a french horn player for Patrick Watson and Arcade Fire, offered support and experience (and an extra pair of ears) as co-producer and Owen Pallett (Final Fantasy, Arcade Fire) gave assistance with the orchestral arrangements Ambre wrote for the FAMES Skopje Studio Orchestra conducted by Sasho Tatarchevski. And deeply sensitive musicians such as percussionist Stefan Schneider (Bell Orchestre, The Luyas), clarinettist Guillaume Bourque and a string trio made of Marilou Lepage, Sebastian Gonzalez Mora and Julien Siino all brought their unique voices to the record.
This then is ‘still, there is the sea’ the debut album from Canadian composer and singer Ambre Ciel, at once dreamy, spacious, self-contained, fragile, mysterious but open and honest and we’re delighted to share this gift with the world and invite you to join this wonderful artist on the first steps of her artistic journey.

Celebrate 20 years of Jazzanova’s groundbreaking debut album In Between with this stunning live reinterpretation. Recorded at Little Big Beat Studios, the Jazzanova Live Band breathes fresh energy into timeless tracks like That Night, No Use, and Days To Come This performance seamlessly blends the album’s sample-based origins with the vibrancy of live music. A must-have for fans of jazz, soul, and electronic fusion.
“In Between became a defining moment not just for Jazzanova, but for a burgeoning sound that fused jazz, soul, electronic, and broken beat,” the collective reflects “Two decades later, we’ve revisited this milestone with the Jazzanova Live Band, a group that has been touring the world for 15 years, captivating audiences with its dynamic blend of precision and improvisation.”
When In Between was released in 2002, it reflected the influences that had shaped the group since the mid-1990s—a seamless blend of jazz, soul, broken beat, and electronic music, brought to life by producers Stefan Leisering and Axel Reinemer, alongside DJs Alex Barck, Claas Brieler, and Jürgen von Knoblauch. Created as a studio concept, it was never intended to be performed live. That changed in 2008 with the formation of the Jazzanova Live Band, coinciding with their second studio album, Of All The Things
In September 2024, this vision came to life At the renowned Little Big Beat Studios in Liechtenstein, the Jazzanova Live Band performed In Between for the very first time in an intimate studio session in front of an audience. Captured on three analog multi-track tape machines and accompanied by a full video recording, this session reimagines the album with a fresh energy, combining samples and live instrumentation seamlessly.
In Between Revisited: Jazzanova Live celebrates a milestone as the collective breathes fresh life into their legacy, proving that great music transcends time and evolves with every listen.

The first album proper from Bangladeshi-Canadian producer Raf Reza explores his obsession with all things dubwise, heavily referencing his UK connections via soundsystem culture bleep nostalgia whilst simultaneously serving as a research outlet for his fascination with late-era internet arrival in the Bangladeshi cultural landscape.
Growing up in Tokyo with a musical education in Toronto via lockdown escapades in Glasgow, Raf’s sound has progressed over the years from low slung boogie and house experiments to a more centred, identity-informed path which has culminated in this album for Telephone Explosion.
Massively attuned to the Baul devotional music of Bangladesh, Reza carefully picks samples from film soundtracks and folk music which combine with his studious approach to Jamaican dub foundations.
Conceptually, Reza is concerned with exploring the potential of sonic futurism via mining and combining Bangladeshi sounds of the past. With a rise in DJ culture and soundsystems across the capital of Dhaka and an interest in electronic dance music amongst the diaspora.

On her debut album, Lucy Gooch stays true to her electronic foundations, while incorporating more acoustic instrumentation and digging deeper into her folk roots through songwriting. But at the heart of Lucy’s music is her rapturous vocal, with which she has experimented more than ever over the course of her first full-length.
Many of the pieces on ‘Desert Window’ started out as vocal improvisations from which she pulled a narrative. Taking cues from the incantatory chanting found in middle English poetry such as ‘The Names of the Hare’, as well as the prescient imagery in contemporary works like ‘The Hearing Trumpet’ by Leonora Carrington (1974). “To a larger extent, this became an experiment in placing my voice in a more narrative way, while remaining oblique,” Gooch explains.
While her previous work could be compared to drawn-out landscapes punctuated with moments of romance and radiance, this album feels grounded in materiality and the everyday. Gooch’s voice is at times strident, while elsewhere restrained and broken. “I lost connection to my voice and then had to rediscover it, which was exhilarating. There were these bursts of energy where I’d be messing around and occasionally stumble upon something”. There are hushed melodies and exhausted squalls, creating dissonance and space.
The result is an atmospheric balance between Kate Bush and Cocteau Twins harmonies, Vangelis major chords, and a juxtaposition of folk ambience reminiscent of the offset madrigals of The Third Ear Band and Italian cult film composers Goblin. It is a complex and elegant album, an all-consuming series of songs that reach into jazz, electronica and classical song construction.
A cosmic fusion of deep funk, interstellar jazz, and avant-garde soundscapes, On Jupiter stands as one of Sun Ra’s most iconic releases. Recorded in 1979 during a prolific period at Variety Arts Studios in New York, this album captures the Arkestra at the height of their creative powers, blending futuristic improvisation with infectious rhythms and otherworldly textures.
Sun Ra’s Variety Arts Studios sessions (1978-1982) were legendary he recorded there two to three times a week, often after a late-night concert, gathering his musicians on West 46th Street at 10 a.m. for marathon sessions that stretched into the early morning These recordings featured a core group of John Gilmore, Marshall Allen, Danny Thompson, Michael Ray, Tyrone Hill, Craig Harris, Luqman Ali, and Samarai Celestial, alongside rotating contributors, including guitarists Skeeter McFarland and Taylor Richardson, as well as bassist Victor Sproles and a young Knoël Scott on saxophone and vocals.
Originally released on Sun Ra’s Saturn label, On Jupiter is a masterclass in cosmic jazz-funk. The album features the irresistibly funky “UFO” recorded before the Sleeping Beauty sessions alongside the hypnotic, groove-laden title track and the expansive "Seductive Fantasy", a mesmerizing journey through space and sound.
By the late 1970s, Sun Ra was embracing an even broader musical spectrum, incorporating soul, funk, and electronic fusion into the Arkestra’s evolving repertoire. As disco, punk, and hip-hop reshaped the cultural landscape, his “sub-underground” approach connected with a new wave of listeners On Jupiter exemplifies this era where deep basslines, swirling horns, spaced-out synthesizers, and Afro-futuristic chants collide to create a truly singular sound.
Now remastered by Technology Works, Strut proudly reissues On Jupiter on vinyl LP, featuring a replica of its original hand-assembled sleeve (selected from the many unique 1979 editions) and newly commissioned liner notes from Arkestra member Knoël Scott and Sun Ra expert Paul Griffiths

The Vanilla Fudge, Mark Stein, Vinny Martell, Tim Bogert and Carmine Appice put the hammer down on the 60's by jamming pop ballads into their psychedelic meat-grinder and coming up with heavenly hash.
No one has ever done "heavy" any better than the Fudge on their original albums, The Beat goes On, Near The Beginning, Renaissance and Rock & Roll, and their concoctions are mentioned in the same breath as Hendrix, Led Zeppelin and Cream.
With its mind-altering, waltzing-through-hot-asphalt take on the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hanging On" scorching the '67 charts, Vanilla Fudge burst to the forefront of all the "heavy" new combos. The group's debut disc is relaunched here in its rare and unique mono mix, a decidedly different and more powerful listening experience than the more common stereo release. Cut by Kevin Gray from the original Atco analog reels!

“PRESERVES THE PIECE’S POLITICAL POWER AND MUSICAL INVENTION WHILE SUBTLY MOVING THIS MASTERWORK TO THE PRESENT.” —All
We Insist 2025! is an extraordinary reimagining of Max Roach’s classic We Insist! Freedom Now Suite, an album that stands among the earliest and, still, most confrontational musical statements of the Civil Rights era. is powerful update comes to us from NEA Jazz Master Terri Lyne Carrington, one of the nest jazz drummers and producers of her generation, and award-winning, mutli-genre, master vocalist Christie Dashiell. In a way that both honors Roach’s original masterpiece and furthers Carrington’s passion for using jazz in the ght for social justice, We Insist 2025! feels like a perfect work of protest for our current moment.
Fittingly, this homage is, like Roach’s original, a Candid Records release, and bursts with ery, stirring ideas and performances, as well as unstoppable grooves and the spellbinding interplay that only remarkable jazz musicians can deliver. With Roach and Brown’s compositions alongside original music and words by Carrington and her collaborators, We Insist 2025! runs the emotional gamut, from anger to tenderness to love and spots of delightful humor and emerges as a crucial reminder that, no matter what governments and institutions attempt, they cannot prevent us from celebrating our lives.
Carrington also works here to ful ll Roach’s pan-African vision, one that encompasses and connects all the rich strains of music that descend from the Mother Continent. “In making this album, it really felt like, yes, we’re dealing with the things that were happening in the states in 1960, many of which are still happening,” Carrington explains. “But we’re also dealing with elevating a global musical diaspora, which is something Max worked toward — with in uences not only from jazz and improvised music, but from gospel and spirituals to soul and Afro-Cuban music.”

DJ Koze – with his friendly and sometimes slightly melancholic take on the world – is one of the greatest auteurs of club music today, and one of the few internationally active DJs who dares to make music that has relevance beyond the dance floor In celebration of !K7's 40th anniversary year, Koze’s seminal DJ-Kicks is reissued on a beautiful orange 2LP with a brand new DJ Koze DJ-Kicks playing card
During the 70-minute journey on his DJ-Kicks – the 50th edition – Kosi Kos manages to establish a uniform color even though genres alternate in a way that is rarely heard on a mix CD: the stripped down hip hop of Madlib, brutalist Berghain techno, timeless songwriting, floating indie-pop and outlier numbers that oscillate between absurdity and melancholy. Koze's disregard for the stylistic yoke presents him with an immense challenge Hence, almost all the tracks are more or less edited, and one is fully rhymed (Session Victim: Hyuwee)
Koze rambles on here himself: "I didn't want to kick around sophisticated knowledge, but rather try and weave together some good gems that would make sense to anyone, even people who aren't necessarily music nerds" But this is blabbing that you can count on, also because he approaches the term "mix" from a different angle and doesn't even try to make something fit that doesn't fit: "During the day, I don't need to hear anything that's mixed on the beat. I put the focus on making sure that it works harmoniously – the idea is more to create the impression of a radio show, like people such as John Peel did so uniquely There is a giant cosmos of music and it runs through my filter" .

Multidisciplinary artist Lyra Pramuk – producer, composer, vocalist, performance artist and astrologer – shares her sophomore album Hymnal: an earthy, raw and psychedelic burst of euphony for our collective healing. Classically trained and deeply inspired by Berlin’s club culture, Lyra has garnered critical acclaim for her vocal virtuosity and original, genre-fluid sound rooted in experimental vocals, instrumental composition and left-field electronics
Throughout Hymnal, she creates a radical and primal polyphony of innovatively-sampled vocals, expressive in-your-face strings (in collaboration with Sonar Quartett), and exceptional future-facing electronic production These varied elements combine to form an ecstatic genesis – an audacious symphony of the universe. Lyra’s rich, process-driven compositions intersect with the minimalism of Steve Reich and Terry Riley, the avant-garde vocal storytelling of Meredith Monk and Laurie Anderson, and the political and communal spirit of American folk and dance music.
For Lyra, Hymnal is her own book of worship songs: for the earth, the cosmos, and all life-forms, living and dead Inspired by the natural world and our place within a mysterious universe, it’s an invitation for cosmic interconnectivity, unfurling like a mass bloom in time-lapse from sunset to sunrise. Hymnal responds to the multiple, intersecting crises of our times –ecological, humanitarian, socio-political, and technophilosophical. Driven by the role we must play to address and process the feelings that emerge as our home and human rights are taken from us, it calls us to remember music's early, communal roots, and our own agency in the process of our individual and collective transformation
Hymnal is a collaborative release on 7K! and Lyra Pramuk’s own newly launched imprint pop.soil.

Generation Carnival Riddims from St. Lucia and Dominica
A hurricane of turbo-charged, body-buzzing tracks collide on Road Fever, a compilation of razor-produced, road-tested instrumental riddims from St Lucia, Dominica & Guadeloupe that showcases the producers forging the future of Caribbean music in 2025
Road Fever draws together instrumental Dennery Segment and Bouyon riddims originally made for vocalists, presented for the first time as stand alone pieces of music Distilling carnival riddims down to the bare bones, producers push minimal 150+ bpms, FL-percussion packs, DJ/vox samples & synth riffs, bridging trap, drill, dancehall, sped-up Haitian konpa & Angolan kuduro
Ricocheting at the intersection of TikTok culture, best heard blasted through walls of speakers travelled by stage-sized carnival trucks or via bluetooth car speakers, StLucia’s ‘Dennery Segment’ sound, (as iconic producer, G6 described in an interview), “sparks your inside; a sound you can’t hear and not move”
Amsterdam-based, Curaçao-raised compiler Rozaly echoes G6:
“Once you hear it, you can’t unhear or unfeel it”
“This is a musical movement with an entire history with so many relevant reasons why it still exists, and why it exists the way it exists right now” . Rozaly concludes, “there is nothing more simple, let the artists speak”

“Max Knouse’s ‘Chipmunk’d Away’ is organic, frightful, sexy as a spring thunderstorm rolling over a mountain. Music, narrative, vocal tone, guitar phrase are all forever new in his hands.”
– Jolie Holland
Max Knouse’s voice feels like laughter that follows a well-loved joke. Only afterward, it dawns on you that you don’t fully understand the punchline. Or for that matter the set up. In fact, you’re not even sure what language the joke was told in.
What to make of such a laugh—inexplicable, delightful, surprising, seemingly nonsensical? And what to make his voice, at once comforting, beguiling, and just beyond the bounds, like a blues moan or a Mingus lick or some ancient guttural holler? It’s the kind of haunt that lingers long after the record fades, echoing back in your imagination, laden with cryptic possibilities and occulted meanings.
Chipmunk’d Away is his third album, following the ramshackle glories of 2016’s Dinasaur From Jensen and 2020’s Road Toad Ribet Known for his sessions and live shows with artists like Califone, Jolie Holland, Adan Jodorowsky, Psychic Temple, Simon Joyner, Alex Dupree, and others, Knouse has established himself as an essential factor in the West Coast indie pop underground, brandishing guitar chops that mirror the rawness of his voice; he treats his instrument like a divining rod of spiritual tension and joyful racket, pushing and pulling on it with affection and sometimes something darker.
From the swelling cosmic folk of “Mint and Tobacco,” which features Knouse intoning apocalyptically over engineer Michael Krassner’s washing guitars, “Your breathing ain’t so deep,” to the jazz standard swooner-meets-West Coast psych-pop title track, to the nightmare-scape blues of “Clumsy Hunter,” to the concluding audio collage sway of “Banana, Orange, and Something Else,” Chipmunk’d presents the range and scope of Knouse’s style: bold, adventurous, frightening, and then frequently, when you least expect it, heartbreakingly lovely, like a joke that clarifies your feelings before you could actually verbalize what those feelings even are. They had been hidden from you, chipmunk’d away, but now Max Knouse has revealed them.
In less than a ten-year span, Subsonic Eye have established a deep catalog across jangle- and indiepop spectra On their 2023 album All Around You, the Singaporean ve-piece re ned their signature snappy hooks with a renewed appreciation for the natural world’s entanglement with their urban milieu Ever enraptured by nature and their surroundings, Subsonic Eye have dedicated much of their music to celebrations of their environment
Their fth album, Singapore Dreaming, centers their hometown through a more focused lens Where All Around You comprised a space to sit with the complex feelings inspired by the intense world we inhabit, Singapore Dreaming is that intense world itself Subsonic Eye’s interpretation of their high energy urban context refracted through straight-to-the-point, poppy, ergonomic songs tinged with tension that could explode at a moment’s notice
Despite the newly honed vision, Singapore Dreaming still has all of Subsonic Eye’s signature elements: spellbinding walls of tone, hooky riffs, zippy rhythms, and punches in the perfect place all led by singer Nur Wahidah’s dreamlike voice, whose vaporous and velvety character always makes the layers whole

It’s been ten years since Drew Lustman a.k.a. FaltyDL last released on Planet Mu. In the meantime he's been running his own label Blueberry Records, been in-house producer for Mykki Blanco and has become a dad.
The best things come out of play and it was Drew’s relationship with his young daughter that switched on this playful side of his music. The album in question, ‘Neurotica,’ expresses Drew’s fun in creating such energetic pieces people will want to move to. It's a dizzying sugar-rush at a high-speed bounce; the music is fresh and inviting and most important of all, joyful.
"Summer of ’24, we were in Catalonia. My girl, our young daughter, the old folks. Days by the village pool, afternoons on the dirtbike. At night, I made salads. Simple things. Good things. One afternoon, lying back, phone in hand, I saw a friend post a GRWM. The music behind it stopped me. A song grabbed hold. The track was ‘Secret’ by Mietze Conte, which is fast-paced europop dance music, like soft fluffy gabber with childlike vocals. I hunted down the full version. Played it again. And again. Twenty times over the next few days. It unlocked something. The best music does that. Like the first time I heard Burial. Had to know what was happening under the surface. That time, it led to ‘Love Is A Liability’ in 2009. This time, it led to ‘Neurotica.’“

“I started to record, getting down fast, bright, sugar-rush sounds. 185 to 200 BPM. I wrote them quick—half a day per track. In between, I slowed things down. Gave space for breath. Mike Paradinas helped shape the album, his ear guiding the flow. I tested the tracks. Played them for kids barely out of diapers and grown folks who still move like they are. It worked, on all ages. I kept it simple. Only two rules: keep it moving and don’t look at my phone. Cut the vocals like I used to.”
‘Neurotica’ is FaltyDL with his mojo refreshed, a new life squared, do yourself a favour, crack a smile and feel the joy.

Sunday Driver returns with Silk & Filth, the next chapter in their captivating Spaghetti Eastern series. Following 2021’s critically acclaimed Sun God, this album continues their exploration of rich storytelling, cultural fusion, and genre-defying sounds. Known for their unique blend of Eastern and Western influences, sharp wit, and a touch of cynicism, Sunday Driver has spent over two decades crafting music that stands in a league of its own. Silk & Filth brings a strong rock influence to the forefront while also featuring an atmospheric instrumental track that weaves together drones and harps, showcasing the band’s versatility and creativity. The album also features the extraordinary talents of tabla maestro Kuljit Bhamra, whose intricate rhythms add depth and vibrancy to the band’s sound. Pressed on stunning orange 180gsm vinyl and accompanied by a beautifully printed lyric inner sleeve, Silk & Filth is as much a visual masterpiece as it is a sonic journey. Building on the success of Mechanical Angel and their groundbreaking South Indian-inspired EP, Flo, Sunday Driver continues to push creative boundaries.
“Their welcome return brings a temptation to tease out tendrils of thought.” ★★★★ The Financial Times // "...a feverishly inventive record which rewards repeated listens". Record Collector Magazine // “a band to watch, without question” The Sunday Times
