FEEDING OUR NEIGHBOR
As the federal government shutdown continues and food subsidies are reduced, the strain on food-insecure households both in our congregation and throughout our neighborhood continues to grow. One of Redeemer’s core callings is to feed the hungry, and there are several meaningful ways you can help right now:
At Lutheran Church of the Redeemer
• Lutheran Community Food Ministry
Every weekday we serve a hot lunch to our neighbors. We receive no federal funding, so our food supply remains stable but we do expect the number of guests to increase in the coming weeks. We are also preparing grocery bags and hygiene kits for families who come seeking support. We welcome new volunteers, and financial gifts can be made through the Give page on our website.
• Wednesday Night Community Meals
More neighborhood guests and residents of Lutheran Towers are joining us for supper each week. You can sponsor a meal for someone in need by making an offering designated “Wednesday Nights.”
• Pastor’s Discretionary Fund
This fund allows our pastors to assist individuals and families who come to our doors in crisis. Gifts can be marked “Pastor’s Discretionary Fund” and given online, in person, or by mail.
Our Local Outreach Partners
• Midtown Assistance Center (MAC)
Redeemer helped found MAC and remains a committed partner in its work. MAC provides a food pantry, job assistance, and emergency rent and utility support. Their latest flier includes a current wish list and a link for financial donations. Items for the pantry may be placed in the bins in the Sims Atrium. Link to flier
• Inspiritus Refugee Support
More than 1,200 refugee families across Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee could lose access to SNAP benefits during the shutdown. Many are parents working tirelessly to rebuild stability for their children. You can donate here to help provide emergency food assistance and ensure families continue to have access to nutritious meals by donating here.
