WHAT MAKES REDDAM HOUSE SYDNEY UNIQUE

Non-denominational

Being non-denominational in nature, the Reddam House environment allows for total religious freedom whilst fostering mutual respect and tolerance. Through its curriculum and teaching methodology, Reddam House instils a sense of right and wrong and promotes ethical values and behaviour in all aspects of school and personal life.

Co-educational

Reddam House is a co-educational school group that educates students to identify and understand the differences between individuals that make up a school and therefore a community. We provide a secure and natural environment, reflecting the society in which students learn to relate to each other, and an opportunity for students to interact whilst comfortably encouraging gender equality.

Each child is an individual

At Reddam House, we recognise that each student is special and unique, and our aim is to nurture and develop this uniqueness while simultaneously locating any latent talent and building on it. Students are encouraged to express their individuality, to be comfortable with who they are, and to respect each other for their differences. Our core objective is to provide each child with the opportunity to develop his or her full potential.

Raising the standard

In the Reddam House environment, each child is motivated, stimulated and supported to meet our highest academic expectations. We expect every child to rise to the challenge when presented with work that will extend and stimulate.

TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

A child’s education is the single most important consideration for any parent.

At Reddam House Sydney we believe that it is an individual’s total educational experience that instils the knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and values that they will carry with them for life.

We believe that this set of knowledge, attitudes, beliefs and values, instilled by education, will form the basis of how we approach the future. These are the foundations on which we build and plan our lives. The effects are long-term, and the consequences are far-reaching.

At Reddam House, we instill a sense of pride, responsibility, honesty and integrity in our students. We believe education is the catalyst for personal growth, development and achievement.

Reddam House Sydney sets a new standard in private education, with a dedication to excellence permeating every aspect of the school. Integrating innovative, challenging and enriching academic, performing arts and sports programmes, Reddam’s students leave with outstanding academic results, a love of learning, confidence and a firm value system that arms them to embrace the challenges life throws at them in their future endeavours.

THE REDDAM APPROACH TO EDUCATION

Lateral thinking, comprehension and innovative application of skills and concepts form the ethos of the Reddam House Sydney approach to education. Great care is taken when selecting new Reddam House Sydney staff. We appreciate how vital our teachers are in shaping enquiring minds and developing young talent. Specialist knowledge, excellent qualifications, outstanding reputations and excellent rapport with students are just some of the qualities we expect from our teachers. We live in a dynamic society, and flexibility is applied to the academic programme to accommodate the demands and challenges of an ever-changing world.

Reddam House Sydney offers an extensive range of subjects beyond the mandatory school curriculum. Through sound teaching methods, the students are exposed to a wide variety of subjects, including information technology and research skills. At Reddam House, we strive towards academic excellence in every grade, with the ultimate focus on achieving outstanding examination results. We actively foster responsible stewardship of the environment, both global and local.

A Reddam House education extends beyond the confines of traditional academia to tuition in life and communication skills, study methods and time management. We firmly believe it is vital that our students are adequately equipped to meet life’s challenges in a globally competitive world.

TEACHING AND LEARNING

Each classroom employs the services of an expert educator trained to implement our principles. Our teacher selection policy is one of the most vital aspects of our schools because we appreciate the importance of their contribution to shaping enquiring minds and developing young talent.

Reddam House Sydney prides itself on its policy of hand-picking outstanding educators.

Teachers are specially selected using the following criteria:

• A commitment to professional development and a demonstrated record of having kept abreast of recent, relevant educational methodology.

• An exceptional rapport and empathy with students, shown by treating them with dignity and respect.

• Demonstrated expertise in their subject area.

• Dynamic personality with a professional demeanour that creates a nurturing educational environment.

• Excellent academic qualifications.

WE EDUCATE CHILDREN TO THINK CRITICALLY & TO ASK QUESTIONS

Our aim is to promote independent thought and encourage young people to use the knowledge they have acquired to develop their own thoughts, ideas and opinions. We support children in their educational endeavours by teaching them how to think, not what to think.

Skills development

Students are taught to hone their thinking, understanding, application and analytical skills in each subject. Reddam House Sydney students also receive tuition in life and communication skills, study methods and time management, and are introduced to entrepreneurship, stock exchange and banking know how, drug awareness and eating disorder programmes, guidance in choosing subjects and career counselling.

Outstanding academic results

Reddam House’s consistently outstanding results have cemented its reputation as an institution committed to academic excellence and its position amongst the leading schools in each of the cities in which it operates.

BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

An emphasis on sport and the creative arts

Sport, creative, and performing arts feature strongly in a Reddam House Sydney education. Students are encouraged to participate in these activities on both competitive and non-competitive levels, resulting in students that are well-rounded and not solely focused on academia. Reddam House believes that sport plays a major role in building the personal and social values necessary to achieve success.

The pursuit of performing and creative arts promotes individuality, personal growth, self-confidence and freedom of expression, while also promoting self-discipline and mutual respect. Compulsory training in public speaking and drama has been developed to ensure that all Reddam House Sydney students build strength in these crucial life skills.

ACTIVITIES BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Various day trips, environmental and outdoor education programmes, local and overseas tours and exchange programmes are offered to enrich our students’ learning experiences. Annual academic, cultural and sporting tours are undertaken locally, nationally and internationally. These tours and excursions enrich the curriculum and provide opportunities for students to perform and compete in a wider arena, resulting in improved social skills and greater awareness of the world in which they live.

SPEECH & DRAMA

Whether your passion is for the stage or you are happier in the Tech box, there are activities to suit all age groups and tastes. At various times of the year, rehearsals for major productions or competitions take centre stage. Our most recent musicals include; The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Moana, Frozen Jnr, Finding Nemo and Winnie the Pooh.

Debating is another popular pastime at all levels, with opportunities to take part in inter-house and external competitions. Public Speaking is taught as a timetabled lesson for all students until the end of Year 9 and is also offered as an extracurricular activity. This helps students foster strong research, oratory, and listening skills that will be vital for their future success at university, their personal lives and careers.

SCHOOL LIFE

Behaviour through positive reinforcement Whilst the Reddam House philosophy is structured to create a sense of freedom within which individuality is encouraged, personal growth and self-confidence promoted, and freedom of expression allowed, the extent of that freedom is defined by the Discipline Code. Responsibility is placed on the student to enjoy freedom within the parameters of this code, which is a partnership between Reddam House Sydney, parents, and students. Within the Reddam House approach, students who contravene the discipline code are awarded demerits. They may also earn credits, which can cancel out demerits for minor infringements. The Discipline Code is signed by students and their parents, allowing students to actively take responsibility for their behaviour.

Regular testing Students are tested on a regular basis, and this forms an essential part of our unique teaching programme. The tests are conducted under examtype conditions and provide invaluable practice in being able to complete a set task within a limited timeframe and performing successfully in examinations. The tests are also used as diagnostic tools to let teachers, students and parents know what has been mastered and to flag areas needing further consolidation.

Class sizes

Reddam House is committed to maintaining small class sizes based on research, which has demonstrated that smaller numbers are one of the most effective ways to increase the learning capacity of each individual student.

We Shall Give Back is more than a school motto—it is a guiding philosophy rooted in history, legend, and values that continue to shape our school community today. Taken from the Latin TUTUM TE ROBORE REDDAM, meaning “I will make you safe with strength,” the motto reflects our belief in protection through compassion, strength through service, and the importance of giving back. Our school name and crest draw inspiration from the legend of King David I of Scotland, who, while hunting, fell from his horse and was charged by a white stag. Legend has it that he was saved by a nobleman—believed to be the Earl of Crawford—who was later knighted for his bravery. In honour of this act, our school crest proudly features a crown, a knight’s helmet, and a stag—symbols of courage, honour, and protection. These values are embedded in our outreach work and everyday interactions, encouraging students to act with integrity and contribute meaningfully to the world around them.

These values are embedded in our outreach work and everyday interactions, with students regularly engaging in community service activities throughout the year to build empathy, act with integrity, and develop a strong sense of social responsibility.

MULTIFORM

At Reddam House Sydney, we believe that comfort enhances learning and allows students to perform at their best. That’s why we’ve adopted a flexible approach to our school attire—known as the ‘multiform.’ Designed to be both practical and visually striking, the multiform allows students to mix and match items throughout the year, with no strict seasonal requirements. This versatility enables individual expression while maintaining a strong sense of school identity. While students enjoy the freedom of choice on a daily basis, a formal uniform is required for official functions and when representing the school. Our distinctive multiform reflects the vibrant, welcoming spirit of our school community.
