Student Achievements
Dear Parents and Caregivers, It was a productive and busy week in the Primary School this past week, as the older students put their collective noses to the grindstone in preparation for the end of year exams. It was really good to hear from the teachers that the students made the most of the week, asking plenty of questions and contributing effectively in class. As mentioned before, the preparation for any assessment is just as important as the actual writing of it. While individual students may have their own ways of learning, the one thing which all students share is the desire to feel prepared and ready to show what they have learned. However, this goes beyond mere rote learning and being able to recall information. It is far more about the students feeling affirmed and confident as they step into the exam venues each morning. For this I am grateful to the teachers, who spent many hours this week going over the work to be covered, but even more so they helped to put in place strategies for studying and writing the exams. Having a well-ordered desk certainly helps, as do all the other simple steps which can make the writing of exams far less stressful. Knowing that they have the support of their teachers and family members helps the students immeasurably and I trust that they all felt this way as they sat down for their first exams today. The Year 1s enjoyed a virtual incursion this week, which was a refreshing return to some sort of normality for them. The excursions and incursions are an important (and much loved) part of the school year, and they have been sorely missed. Although the Year 1s had to enjoy their visit to Vaucluse House virtually, and were not able to visit the beautiful museum in person, they had a thoroughly good time and learned much about life back in the 19th Century.
