Our Aims

It is said that life seems to move faster the older you get, and here at RedbridgeCVS, where last year we celebrated our 25th anniversary, this certainly seems to be true!

Redbridge voluntary and community sector to be strong ­partners when working with local ­statutory bodies and promoting a positive vision of Redbridge.

You will see from the contents of this Annual Review that we have been keeping very busy – even if it sometimes feels as if we are running just to stand still, operating as we are against a backdrop of increasing demands and reducing resources for our sector.

However, our members have once again told us that they greatly value our support and we continue to offer a wide range of support to help our communities to help each other.

We continue to be inspired and enthused by the local voluntary organisations and volunteers that we exist to support, and hope that you enjoy reading this Annual Review as much as we have enjoyed working all year to support and celebrate our wonderful community!

Annual Review 2017 Helping community groups to stay in the running

Training

Volunteer Centre

We ran 23 courses for people from 37 community groups, including 7 in-house courses. We trained a total of 134 people.

Volunteer Centre Redbridge worked with over 250 organisations from the voluntary and public sectors that involve volunteers.

We found volunteering roles for over 300 people.

I found the Recruitment and Selection of Volunteers training so useful. I’ve already had a meeting with my team to discuss ways we can improve our volunteering project.

VCR continue to be extremely supportive of our project and always seem to do over and above anything I would expect. Thank you!

EaST The Employment and Skills Team works with 12 other community organisations to help local people find jobs.

I got help from the team through their Outreach EaST project to update my CV, as well as guidance on completing application forms – and, most important for me, help with my interview technique. I’m now in a full-time permanent job.

Safer Neighbourhoods

Redbridge Safer Neighbourhood Board’s first Community Day in August 2016, was enjoyed by hundreds of participants and members of thepublic alike.

Health Buddies

Our Community Fundraiser gave 44 local groups 1-to-1 support during the year. and helped groups to raise almost £200,000 for work in Redbridge. We ran five fundraising workshops to help groups to make strong funding bids and develop relevant policies and procedures.

Our Health and Wellbeing Buddies are local people who provide information about health and wellbeing issues in their communities. Since 2013 they have spoken at 335 sessions to 9,600 local residents.

Fundraising

As a Community Association, we have received excellent support regarding fundraising… I have always found everyone at RedbridgeCVS extremely helpful, very supportive and knowledgeable.

Our project worker spoke to over 1,000 people at local Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic community groups to promote mental health, provided training for local faith and community group leaders, and also hosted a play about dementia (photo, right), attended by over 400 local people.

633 people took part in our community exercise programme, with 4 out of 5 groups still active six months after we stopped providing funding.

I feel happier – before I couldn’t run for long or dance, but now I can! I’m more positive. If we carry on it will help me a lot.

Health Partnerships We published the fifth edition of Our Health in Our Hands, featuring nine community groups working on health issues, including physical wellbeing, mental health, learning disability, physical disability, social isolation and carers. We also developed a Food Poverty Action Plan for Redbridge in partnership with Redbridge Council: we interviewed 92 local residents, spoke to 8 community groups and 20 local businesses.

Social Prescribing Our innovative Social Prescribing project (launch photo, right) will help GPs connect patients with a range of non-medical community-based social support from local groups.

Members This has been the second year of our new membership structure, which helps us maintain a closer relationship with local charities and community groups – and again, the number of our group members has increased.
