A surprise at The Long Ridge School Award-winning children’s book author Kevin Henkes visited the kindergarten and first-grade class at The Long Ridge School in Stamford, Conn., in May as the surprise ending to the class’s yearlong study of authors and illustrators. Henkes has been prized as an author with the Newbery Honor and as an illustrator with the prestigious Caldecott Medal. Henkes won his Caldecott in 2005 for “Kitten’s First Full Moon,” a story of a kitten who mistakes the moon for a bowl of milk.
