PARKS AND RECREATION NEWS AND UPDATES

RECREATION AND ENRICHMENT CATALOG

A message from the Director, Jak Teel

Parks and Recreation are an essential component of any vibrant community and help ensure a sustainable quality of life for our citizens while attracting those who may be thinking of relocating. As your Parks and Recreation Director, I advocate for all community members and work to ensure safe access to our parks and open spaces for all This catalog aims to provide an educational tool to our community that connects them with the programs, events, and services the City of Cottonwood offers and provides insight into how Parks and Recreation play a role in the City's mission of "Inspiring a Vibrant Community."

Every year we sit down and assess the trends in Parks and Recreation and what we can do to help promote our parks' safe and fun use for our community members. We do that through programmed activities such as special events and organized sports leagues. However, did you know that most individuals prefer to enjoy passive Recreation? Passive Recreation is often seen as a more relaxed and laid-back form to recreate This type of Recreation requires a low level of involvement from an organized entity for you to have fun Running, jogging, hiking, and even kayaking are all passive recreation opportunities that are abundant in our area and are safe and fun ways for you to get out and enjoy the beauty of our area at your pace.

As passive Recreation is a growing trend in our field, my job is to ensure that the community knows of and has access to all of the excellent facilities and activities the City of Cottonwood has that promote passive Recreation

Perhaps you and your family would like a low-key, fun, competitive game Our 18-hole Disc Golf course may be for you. It is a low-cost entry sport that can be played at your speed and skill level, as it is easy to learn. Perhaps you and your family would like to check out Pickleball paddles and balls from the REC and play on any of our four permanent Pickleball Courts Or maybe you would like to view our virtual trails map and enjoy the fresh outdoors.

Passive Recreation is a great way to utilize our parks and connect with our community I hope you seize the opportunity, and I hope to see you out there!

LEVEL 1 - MINNOWS - INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS

Your child is introduced to basic skills as the foundation for future skills and the development of water competency The milestones necessary for successful completion of Level 1 include: Entering the water independently using the ramp, steps, or side; traveling at least 5 yards, bobbing 5 times and then safely exiting the water; opening eyes underwater and retrieving submerged object; gliding on the front with assistance at least 2 body lengths; rolling to a back float for 5 seconds with assistance; recovering to a vertical position with assistance; combined arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance; alternating and simultaneous arm and leg actions on front and back with assistance.
