Our History In the 1880’s Thomas Cook bought his first horse and cart, over 125 years later the Cook family involvement in road haulage is still going strong with Elddis Transport. With 4 generations of experience, we are passionate about Transport and Our Customers.

Since 1980 Elddis have specialised in the movement of consumer goods and related products. This is an extremely demanding sector requiring high levels of service and 24 hours operations.

Elddis is now a major player in the transport and distribution industry with a strong customer base, excellent staff and modern equipment. The business is looking forward to future and the next 125 years of trading.

The family ethics are a corner stone to the business, with high staff retention providing continuity and stability. Many of our customers have been with us for many years, over 40% of our turnover is made up of clients we have worked with for over 40 years, over 60% of turnover is made up of clients we have worked for over 30 years.

Thomas Cook buys his first horse and cart.

After Thomas’s death, one of his Son’s ‘Siddle’ takes over part of the business creating Siddle C Cook Ltd.

1964 Siddle C Cook Ltd. Is sold to the Tayforth Group, Geoffrey Cook remains running the business for 7 years.

1971

1980

Geoffrey Cook leaves The then biggest customer, Consett Steel Tayforth and on 6th September 1971 Works closes, Elddis change direction and Elddis Transport move to concentrate begins operation. on the consumer goods market.

2013

2014

Elddis win the Motor Transport Haulier of the Year Award, along with the North East Environment and CSR company of the year.

Elddis win Durham and Wearside Company of the Year.

2017

Elddis are runner up in the UK Haulier of the Year Award.

2018 Elddis Join Palletforce, the premium national pallet network in the UK. The Elddis fleet now stands at 160 vehicles and 320 trailers.

Transport Operations Elddis operate one of the largest and most modern vehicle fleets in the North East of England.

Our fleet of over 450 vehicles and trailers cover every major centre in the UK, everyday. Operating 365 days per year, 24 hours per day, there is always an Elddis vehicle on the road.

Our size and scope of operation gives our clients unrivalled flexibility to react and deliver their every requirement in the current ever demanding market.

The long distance fleet is designed to operate at the maximum permitted 44 tonne gross vehicle weight, which gives a load

capacity of up to 28.5 tonnes. In addition the use of high cube trailers with up to 3.2m loading apertures, gives a volume carrying capacity of over 100 cubic metres.

Whether the product is bulky or heavy, whether it is a full load or part load Elddis have the solution Our Transport operations are supported by a dedicated customer services team, 24 hour Management and state of the art IT. Our vehicles are tracked for additional security and quality management. Customers can view service updates on-line, as well as viewing proof of delivery paperwork post delivery.

Radial Distribution Solutions Elddis have the answer to all of your national radial distribution requirements through two distinct solutions: Elddis Premium Distribution Network Our premium network utilises only six depots strategically placed across the UK, operated by ourselves and two other family owned businesses.

The network has been operating for a number of years and has been developed to provide a national solution for compatible FMCG products such as confectionery, food, soft and alcoholic drinks. The network also delivers goods such as packaging and ingredients.

The Elddis Premium network offers a unique solution for those businesses who in particular move higher value or more fragile products.

Elddis Palletforce National Pallet Network Elddis have teamed up with Palletforce to offer a national and international pallet solution covering the UK, Ireland, Europe and Asia.

Environmental Awareness and Corporate Social Responsibility are at the heart of Elddis Transport

Corporate Social Responsibility & Environmental Credentials Elddis CSR and Environmental Credentials are Multi Award Winning both Nationally and Locally. These have included winning the United Kingdom Warehouse Association Environmental Award in both 2011 and 2012, and winning the North East Business Award for Low Carbon, Environment and Corporate Responsibility in 2013 Corporate Social Responsibility Elddis are leading the way in the industry with their approach to CSR, this cannot be better demonstrated than by our support of Willow Burn Hospice. Since getting involved with this great local charity in 2007 Elddis have raised over £200,000 for them, as well as donating free warehouse accommodation and in 2014 gifting them a delivery van.

Environmental Impact Elddis’s continued environmental awareness and work to reduce our impact is an on-going priority of the business. Some of the projects that have been implemented to reduce our overall impact include: • • • • • • •

DVSA Alternative Testing Facility Elddis Transport is now an approved DVSA (formerly VOSA) Authorised Testing Facility (ATF). With the opening of the brand new and fully equipped facility located within its Delves Lane, Consett, site all makes and models of trucks, trailers and PSVs can be annually MOT tested on site by DVSA employed staff.

The aim is to provide a one-stop shop for all voluntary pre-test checks such as brake, emissions and headlight checks as well as providing all statutory annual MOTs, Retests, RPCs and prohibition clearances.

With highly trained workshop staff and fully stocked parts store on site handling the requirements of the MOT lane, any repairs or adjustments required for tests can often be carried out immediately, giving owners of HGVs and PSVs the extra convenience that is not offered by traditional DVSA testing stations.

Elddis currently offers MOT tests on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays between 8am-4pm although it is planned to offer additional days in the near future. The advantage of managing a fully flexible workshop is that it can facilitate and offer most voluntary and pre-test checks outside of the DVSA testing hours to suit the customer. As an added convenience Elddis also offers the hire of loaded trailers and ballast weight as well as the hire of a driver to present the vehicle for test for you.

High Cube Trailer Specialist Elddis operate almost 300 High Cube Trailers the majority with 3.2m loading aperture through both the side of the trailer and the rear doors.

These trailers have been deliberately developed to provide an efficient and effective solution for light and bulky products. By standardising this design across the fleet it allows Elddis to provide flexibility that our customers demand.

In addition to the standard 13.6m high cube trailers, Elddis also operate 15 longer semi-trailers as part of the Government LST trial.
