My interest in design came from a curiosity to understand the relationship between community and culture. How does this relationship shape a society and give people an identity? Growing up in the Caribbean, on the island of Trinidad and Tobago, there is a rich cultural history. Known for it’s incredible diversity and melting pot of traditions with the freedom to explore and learn through others.
When I had the opportunity to study abroad, my interests lead me to pursue an education in Architectural design and gain a broader understanding of how our spaces are created and what the ideology behind the places that were deeply influenced by strong cultural traditions.
I graduated from the Bachelor of Architectural Studies program at Carleton University. My work experience has been broad, challenging me to adapt creatively and technically. Currently forming a circular relationship between interior design and architectural design intrigues me. Two disciplines that carefully curate the spaces we spend most of our time and foster our memories.

a social night out.
The site’s narrow infill parameters proposed a challenge to provide each hotel room with sunlight and window access. A slender light well with a featured green wall was incorporated to provide a light source for the interior rooms. 519 Sussex embraces a playful outlook on how people’s lifestyle towards work and travel have evolved.

A proposed community center aimed to revitalize Tokyo’s, once industrial Kaigan District by merging the city’s sky-line with the water’s edge. Engaging the street with two parallel boardwalks creating a social hub for public activity as well as improving the area’s walk-ability.
The Anka Centre is home to a small community theatre, public library, rowing club and Dojo facilities all encapsulated in a slender hook-like form, restricted by the site’s narrow boundary lines. The curvilinear expression forms a bay for the rowing boats to dock and defines a clear end for the pedestrian boardwalk. A circulation concourse hugs the street and allows a clear path through the building providing views into the four distinct programmatic elements.

Brewer Park Aquatic Centre connects family life with the growing urban landscape of Ottawa, bridging the neighborhood and the city with two ramped entrances from either side of the site. As these two paths intersect there is an open gathering space which encourages social interactions and provides flexible space for community events.
The long span roof structure resembles a wooden pitched roof, to evoke a feeling of swimming at home, using glu-lam beams as the structural building component. All aquatic spaces are partially submerged underground, to create a protected, private and meditative environment. These spaces include changing rooms, thermal baths, saunas and the main pool space includes a kids pool, a learners pool, a five lane pool and a diving pool.

The site is situated between a commercial Elgin St and a residential Cartier St, and with an aging population the school is geared towards those battling mental and physical health issues as they enter the later stages of their life such as Dementia and Parkinson’s disease. The school’s design revolves around a large central ramp that creates a gentle circulation pathway and easy way-finding. Research into the benefits of muscle memory and per-formative action with the rehabilitation of memory loss defines the school’s philosophy. Programs include art therapy studios, improvisational theater and an on-site research center where physicians can monitor students’ progression in school. The expressive nature of school allows for community engagement with performances and exhibitions for students and local artists.
As a group we worked together on the form and architectural expression of the ramp as the heart of the building. I was responsible for the overall Rhino 3D model and the skin of the building with James and Alexis working on structure and floor plan development. I worked with James to create elevations, section and interior renders while Alexis worked on floor plans.

A proposed master-plan for Ottawa’s new Light Rail station. My studio partner, and I visualised the urban strategy for the 14 acre site by covering the train tracks to create large pedestrian streets leading to an energetic public plaza with flexible space for seasonal events to draw people from the adjacent artillery street. The studio’s objective was to explore the intensification of sprawling residential areas with a requirement to design a high-rise condominium and a midrise apartment dwelling to facilitate the new transportation hub. The high-rise condominium sits above the LRT station with a mixed-use podium and overlooks the public plaza, the tower’s design was done by my studio partner.
The Trinity Villas are a series of three apartment buildings bridged together with large interstitial spaces that act as semi-open courtyards allowing for an interactive community. The terraced balconies form a connection with the adjacent low-rise houses while the new park provides a common space for the greater community. The Villas target both young families with a series of townhouses at grade as well as young professionals with a variety of apartment units above.

Site Location: 300 Bloor St. Toronto, Canada
300 Bloor Street was a project at the end of its design development phase when I joined it’s team. The project consisted of an exterior and interior renovation to the existing historic church with a new addition of a mixed use commercial podium and a condominium with 200 plus residential units.
My role was to assist on the church’s entrance facade as well as the interior renovation. A major task was creating design studies for a tracery screen using a pattern that defines itself along the street-front while providing sun-shading. This pattern bleeds into the interior sanctuary of the church. Additionally, I drafted detailed construction drawings for various sections within the church and created presentations used to coordinate with both the client and the congregation.
