ISSUING OF PASSPORTS TO MINORS FOR SINGLE PARENTS OLD NORMS

Names of both parents required

Name of any of the parents is enough Name of a legal guardian is also applicable

FOR SINGLE PARENTS OLD NORMS Earlier, specific categories of applicants had to submit notarised affidavits

NEW NORMS Self-declarations on plain paper without the need of a notary

ISSUING OF PASSPORTS TO MINORS FOR SEPARATED PARENTS OLD NORMS

For the issue of the passport of a minor, consent of both the parents were needed via separate affidavits

Any of the parent can certify the authority over the issuing of passport of the minor in an affidavit

Affidavits had to be notarised

In addition, another affidavit is required explaining the unavailability of the second parent

FOR MARRIED COUPLES OLD NORMS Produce the marriage certificate Submit an affidavit

NEW NORMS No need to produce either of the two documents

ISSUING OF PASSPORTS TO COUPLES FOR SEPARATED / DIVORCED COUPLES OLD NORMS The divorced couples had to produce their divorce decree in order to remove the name of the ex-partner The separated couples had to produce affidavits in order to remove the name of the ex-partner

ISSUING OF PASSPORTS TO LEGAL HEIRS OR ORPHANED CHILDREN FOR ADOPTED CHILDREN/ LEGAL HEIRS OLD NORMS

Registered adoption deeds had to be attached with the application of the passport

A declaration on a plain paper is enough

FOR ORPHANED CHILDREN OLD NORMS If an orphaned child is unable to provide a document in favour of his/her proof of date of birth, he/she would not be issued a passport

NEW NORMS If an orphaned child can produce a letter from the head of a child care home or head of an orphanage, he/she would be issued a passport

FOR GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES OLD NORMS NOC signed by the employer, was required along with the application form

NEW NORMS A self-declaration document along with a note written by the employer is enough. This document should be furnished with the passport application form

NEW NORMS A spiritual leader can write the name of his/her teacher in place of parents’ names provided that he/she has a government document mentioning the name of the teacher in place of parents’ names
