Have you thought about commissioning an oil painting? “I love creating large paintings for homes and offices. If you would like an original oil painting, I am happy to work with you on the perfect size and color palette for your special space. I mix all my colors from a limited, harmonious palette and work in an expressive impressionistic style. Mood, atmospheric perspective, captivating light and pleasing soft color, are my focus. Sky scapes, Loose Floral and Abstracted Nature are my specialties.” artist -Jo Ridge Kelley
1. What inspires you?
Is it the rising mist and layers of blue ridges extending way out to the horizon at sunset or sunrise? Is it a gentle glowing light over the lake or the energy of a waterfall…a backlit cloud with dramatic light across the meadow or salt marsh? Maybe it’s a pastoral scene with a meandering stream that takes you back to your childhood?
2. Where will you display your painting? What is the mood and feel you want to create in your space? Choosing a season and time of day for your painting, will play a big part in setting the mood for the room. Big white clouds over a beautiful sky of blue and a lively colorful foreground, will bring out a feeling of happiness and a free spirit! Warm glowing clouds at sunset with the land gently silhouetted and the light reflecting on water, will create a sense of calm and peacefulness. This would be a tonal landscape with moody and dramatic light, soft edges and dreamy.
3. What size painting will best suit the space? Keep in mind, the larger the landscape, the more it allows you to “walk right in” and wander around. You’ll feel like you’re there surrounded by the natural world, away from the hustle & bustle of daily life. Your painting can serve as the “escape from reality” that we all sometimes need. Perhaps a triptych would be perfect for a big wall!
4. Summing it all up, here’s what you need to think about: Location of installation - where would you like to hang your painting?
*Subject to be created (mountains or coast, flowers, abstract * Size of painting, linen mounted on archival board to be traditionally framed or a deep gallery wrapped canvas with a “floater frame” (a narrow edge frame ) or hung unframed * Choosing a mood, a feel that you’d like to create in your space, time of day, the light - soft reflective sunlight or brighter midday light
***request a quote and timeline via email or text.
5. Once decisions and agreements are established, a 50% deposit is required to get started with balance due upon completion. Email updates are a big part of the journey. We’ll begin with an approved sketch and then design on canvas, a custom color palette and progress photos. The goal is a beautiful heirloom work of art that you will cherish.
(I absolutely want my clients to love their painting, so if your painting doesn’t speak to you, a refund of your deposit, less 10% of the total invoice amount for my time & energy, will be made.)
***Regional Installations can be arranged.

The Haen Gallery
The Haen Gallery in Asheville opened in July 2006 with a show featuring Lynn Boggess, the unique and quintessential Appalachian painter. The gallery is owned and directed by Chris Foley, who moved to the Asheville area in 2004 to be near his daughter and granddaughter. Chris was trained as a painter and sculptor and graduated with a BFA degree from Georgetown University. His involvement with graphic and fine art has been lifelong. In 1997 he co-founded Old Town Editions in Alexandria, Virginia with Mark McCormick-Goodhart, a photographic scientist at the Smithsonian Institution. The company has numbered among its
clients The Library of Congress, National Portrait Gallery, The Museum of American History, National Park Service and World Bank and many others over the years. Old Town Editions was purchased by its employees. In 2013, Chris Foley opened a second gallery in Brevard, a decision that allowed the gallery to expand the number of artists they represent. This new location also places a heavy emphasis on sculpture, offering a wide variety of indoor and outdoor sculpture, commissions, and monumental installations. The Haen Gallery is named in honor of Chris Foley’s mother, Eileen Haen Holberg. It is pronounced “HAY-n”.
Larry Gray MISSION
Our intention is to provide excellence in quality and service as well as value to our clients. It is also important to us to create a space where the public can enjoy access to exceptional artwork — both regional and national — regardless of their ability to purchase. Our artists, beside their commitment to excellence, share a common bond: a keen appreciation for the natural world. Thus, the visitor to our gallery will perceive a certain sensibility. There is a sense of place in the artwork that is appropriate to this wonderful area and any other area where a discerning spirit chooses to reside. Generally speaking, the Haen Gallery offers the work of established artists whose distinctive and unique style sets it apart from ordinary and imitative efforts. We have seen the prices that most of our artists command for their artwork rise significantly over the years, making their work quite attractive as investments. But most of all, we have had the pleasure of providing for our clients artwork of real value that will be enjoyed for many years and even generations.Lynn Boggess
At The Haen Gallery, we offer full art consultation, delivery, and installation services that make acquiring art easy and enjoyable. Working with your vision and budget, we can provide a portfolio of local, national, and international artists for review. Our artists, beside their commitment to excellence, share a common bond. That bond is a keen appreciation for the world around us. Impasto landscapes by Lynn Boggess, ethereal skyscapes by Larry Gray, abstract crowds by Ursula Gullow, tranquil vistas by Stephen Pentak, cityscapes and industrial scenes by Valerio D’Ospina… we represent dozens of artists that each have an impressive story. Our intention is to provide excellence in quality and service as well as
value to our clients. It is our honor to work with each individual to find the perfect art and sculpture for their home or business. Pieces that speak to them and provide a sense of place.
Services; Digital Retouching
To assist in this process, we offer personalized in-home art consultation. Or, as many of our clients prefer, an electronic approval process. This digital retouching allows the client to enjoy photo renderings showing options for artwork in their home or business.

A Warm Renovation
Our clients were relocating from South Florida to a gated community in Asheville, NC. They were drawn by the natural beauty, change of seasons, and rare extreme weather conditions of the WNC area (after experiencing too many FL Hurricanes). However, the home was in need of updating for the exterior and interior to align with the client’s tastes and lifestyle needs. The biggest challenge was that these renovations were to take place during COVID lockdowns and supply chain challenges.
Allard + Roberts was tasked with putting a team together to handle the renovation process, and with envisioning a new color palette and architectural details throughout to personalize the home. Our design team created floor plans and elevations for the renovations, including a new custom Kitchen design and custom
built ins. A+R also identified a general contractor to do the work. Adam Shook of Stonewood Builders ultimately completed the renovation, and managed a team of superior subcontractors throughout the COVID era restrictions and supply chain issues. The homeowners lived locally throughout the renovations and were able to visit the site regularly and work through concerns with the builder and our design team.
The home is now transformed to a more transitional style, with a new and more functional Kitchen for an avid cook. Previously, the house didn’t include enough storage for all of the owners’ dishes, small appliances, and various cooking tools and utensils. Storage was added in the new Kitchen design and the new laundry room cabinetry, while a custom coffee station was added in a hallway and includes display space for vintage glassware.
Custom furniture was designed in a few key locations, including the Dining Room, which greets visitors just off the Foyer. The 72” round walnut table is a statement piece, and pairs well with the client’s new chairs, existing oil painting, and custom drapery. A custom nesting coffee table set and sideboard were also commissioned for the Living Room. A+R is proud to pair clients with an extensive network of architects, builders, furniture makers, work rooms, artists, artisans and craftsmen to personalize each home to the client’s individual tastes, as we did in this case.
Another element of the design was our client’s extensive art collection that included pieces by Miro and Picasso, among many other contemporary artists. While the homeowners desired a warm color palette, the tones couldn’t be too deep or they would detract from the incredible artwork. Warm tan and green tones
were utilized throughout the house to add a cozy feeling to vast spaces and tall or vaulted ceilings
Now, our clients enjoy a home tailored to their personal needs, which addresses their color palette desires, display of artwork and personal collections, storage needs, overall comfort for daily living, and the requirement of a more functional kitchen. Both our clients, their family and friends, and their three kitties are loving this transformed Asheville home!

Coming March 3, 2023
Biltmore will host the world premiere of the latest multi-sensory experience created and produced by Grande Experiences, Italian Renaissance Alive. The exhibition spans the Renaissance period of the 14th to 17th centuries, immersing its audience in the architecture, sculpture, literature, and other artistic and cultural influences of this movement in European history.
The Renaissance brought cultural, artistic, political and economic rebirth to Europe following the Middle Ages and the fall of the Roman Empire. Out of the darkness emerged a new vision of civilization that was portrayed on canvas, in fresco and in sculpture throughout Italy.
Using large-scale projections of great beauty and detail, hundreds of masterpieces from some of the world’s most revered Italian artists and sculptors surround visitors in the brilliance of one of the greatest artistic periods in history. Light, color, sound and fragrance are choreographed in this multi-sensory experience to explore Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and The Last Supper, Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, and other works by Raphael, Caravaggio, Titian, and Veronese among others. A powerful Italian operatic score will accompany the immersive visuals, including the musical works of Puccini and Verdi.
“We are delighted that the world premiere of this exceptional experience will be at Biltmore. Italian Renaissance Alive will offer
visitors of all ages and backgrounds an entertaining, educational and enlightening experience, whether they are art and history aficionados or exploring the Italian Renaissance for the first time,” said Bruce Peterson, owner and founder of Grande Experiences.
Brought to Biltmore by Grande Experiences, Italian Renaissance Alive opens March 3, 2023 at Amherst at Biltmore, the estate’s exhibition space. Hotel packages on the estate will available for this exhibition. Tickets will go on sale on Biltmore.com at a later date.
