Dear Pilgrims,
Thank you for saying your fiat - your yes, to being a pilgrim to Lisbon for World Youth Day.
We will all discover Christ in different ways as we journey to Lisbon. As we slowly let go of the normal distractions in our day to day lives that often keep us from being aware of Christ’s presence, we will notice him on the journey with us - both collectively and individually. It is a great grace for all of us to be travelling toward Lisbon with other young people from our diocese who genuinely want to encounter Christ.
The daily rhythm is designed for us to be aware of his presence and to allow him to come closer to us as we move towards Lisbon. Each day, we will come close to him in the Sacrifice of the Mass, the Divine Office of the Church, The Holy Rosary, individual prayer and we will
encounter him in our brothers and sisters - all of these things will allow him to come alongside us in this time.
When we arrive in Lisbon, we will be in the presence of the 265th successor of St Peter along with several million other young people. This is a sign of Christ’s everlasting love for us through His Church.
Pilgimages are in many ways a symbol of our journeys of faith through this life. There will be times of elation, times when Christ seems very close...and these are the times when we can bring our brothers and sisters closer to him. There will inevitably be times of frustration and tiredness, and these are tim§es when we can rely more on the brothers and sisters around us.
Like Mary, when she said her yes, we have no idea how powerfully and in what ways this pilgrimage will impact on our future lives and the vocations that God has planned for us. But like he did with Mary, he will take our yes to going to Lisbon and turn it into something beautiful in our lives - all for his greater glory.

Care will be provided at each of the main reception and catechetical sites and at the various event venues. First aid tents, medical and nursing support structures and, in some specific cases, “travel hospitals” will operate with the joint support of national entities.
Whilst we are away, we will be representing the Diocese of Westminster and more importantly, the Church. Therefore, it is important to ensure that our actions reflect the Church’s values in both our behaviour and our image.
• Timings during the pilgrimage are key so please be punctual.
• For your safety and wellbeing please away stay in groups of at least 3.
• If at any time you get separated from your group, please let Phoebe or Hannah know immediately.
• There will be many times when we are in holy places or attending Mass so we
ask that you are mindful when it comes to the clothing you wear to attend these e.g. Shorts that are not too short/tight, no vests etc.
• We really want to enjoy our social times together but we ask you to respect our Pilgrimage rule of a 2-drink maximum to ensure that everyone is fresh for our travelling.
During WYD we will come in contact with younger people or vulnerable adults so please be vigilant with safeguarding them and yourself. Stay in groups and if you have any concerns about anyone’s safety or wellbeing, please let a member of the team know immediately.

The Angelus honours the Incarnation by commemorating the angel’s greeting to Mary and her free acceptance of her destined role in the salvation of mankind. It is traditionally said at 6am, noon, and 6pm.
The angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
