Located in the heart of one of Seattle’s most vibrant entertainment district and juxtaposed to Seattle University, the Art & Culinary Complex seeks to bring some of Capital Hill’s most notable commercial scenes into an informational and explorative spatial experience. Referencing the explorative nature of the neighboring Piston+Ring building, this complex is designed to entice pedestrians to wander trough a series of outdoor public corridors that will take them trough different stages of the art and culinary profession.

As Bothell Washington celebrated its centennial, the town seeks to shed its suburb image to become the next metropolitan area in the Pacific Northwest. Bothell City Hall was not only designed to reflect Bothell’s history but also takes initiative to engage with the public realm while being scaled for a dense urban environment.

UMBRELLA PAVILION

Relieving A Revolution

[abridged]

Spring 2011 | Cairo, Egypt | Ayad Rahmani

The design was inspired by the nature of revolutions, how individuals come together to support a common cause, as well as the radial symmetry of Cairo’s Tharir Square.

The Umbrella Pavilion, located in Tahrir Square, was designed to be a complex of lightweight structures that could be rapidly assembled to provide the needed amenities to the revolutionists of the Arab Spring. The pavilion is comprised of individual units that can be arranged in different combinations to create a larder structure, each unit offering a different service.
