Welcome to the May Edition of Rosslare Newsletter You’re walking down the street and suddenly an elderly man familiar to you catches your attention. "I've been left a lot of money”, he says excitedly. “I feel I should give some of it to the community but I can’t decide on the most deserving projects. Could you list three for me?” You’re flabbergasted. Your mind is racing. Just then your friend Mary is walking by and you ask for her help. “That’s an easy one cause I’ve just filled out the Rosslare community survey and I know the top three in my mind,” says Mary.
Dates in May 1st May – Greenway Public Meeting 4th May – Community Walk Every Sun – Open Garden, Doyle’s Orchard Park
©Mairéad Power We don’t have any money to offer but we can’t over-emphasise how important it is to have your say on the future development of Rosslare. It’s not a put-up or shut-up exercise. We’re not that crude. But we want you to know that your views will be informative and instructive for Rosslare Community Development Association in mapping out our future. We’re distributing the questionnaire this week to all fulltime residential households and we’ll be back to collect the completed item within a few days. For late responses we are providing collection boxes at various points in the village. But don’t be late if you can help it. It’s definitely worth taking the trouble and we’ll all find the results interesting. We’ve been debating this for some months and now it’s show-time, as they say in the movies. Our consultant Yvonne Byrne will assess and analyse the results of the survey which will be published across the village. And importantly, the final version of the 5-year development plan will be adjusted to accommodate the people’s views and expectations as captured in the survey. It been very heartening for us that several people have come forward as volunteers to assist in distributing the questionnaire and we are very grateful to them. This is a first for Rosslare and we’re looking forward to the outcome. Other villages throughout the county are conducting the same exercise and it’s ultimately connected with the Town and Village Regeneration scheme launched by the government last year. RDA is getting positive comments from people whose interest in the work of the Association had waned. Tidy Towns have re-affiliated to RDA and we’d welcome new members and especially the return of those who made a valuable input in the past. We have more to unite us than to divide us. NEWSFLASH: An exciting proposition arose from RDA’s recent meeting with Glen Carr, M.D.of Rosslare Europort. He has offered to make a return shuttle service available in the summer months to ferry visitors coming through the port to Rosslare Strand and onto Wexford town. In addition, he is willing to provide desk accommodation in the main reception hall for our representatives to greet visitors and provide tourist information for them. This is a big deal. Too big for us to take on ourselves but we hope to drive it forward with the County Council. It’s not likely to happen till next year because a lot of ducks will have to be put in a row. Keep it under your hat for the moment! Ray Doyle, RCDA
