March Edition
Welcome to the March Edition of Rosslare Newsletter Even though the sea has not been churning so severely this winter, the stones thrown up on the beach have reached a serious level. It makes it difficult for those who try to walk the beach every day, and also builds up problems for swimmers in the summer if the beach remains that way. What to do? It’s the County Council’s job to maintain the beach and they need a bit of encouragement to give it a priority. We’re in March now and the summer is not far away. This is the type of issue you can address in the village survey being launched later this month. Your opinion is very important to the future development of © Tony Mullen Rosslare. This year also affords you an opportunity you get only every five years……the chance to vote candidates of your choice onto the county council. Your vote will be chased by a strong field of aspirants. Give it serious thought and don’t devalue or demean your right to vote by not taking part when it comes up around June. And use the upcoming survey to shape the future of the village. Strong commitments of support to Rosslare have come from two Ministers of State Michael D’Arcy and Paul Kehoe who came here on separate days at the invitation of Rosslare Development Association (RDA). A number of projects to enhance Rosslare were discussed and the single biggest issue was, of course, that of coastal protection. Both Ministers stated categorically that the capital works would soon be approved and the budget would be 6-7 million euro. Keep positive and we’ll let you know as soon as we hear the word. The proposed Greenway along the disused railway line from Rosslare to Waterford got the full support of the Ministers. Minister D’Arcy extending the concept further by setting out a plan to develop a “grey way” connecting redundant or surplus roads through counties Wicklow and Wexford after the motorways had been completed. RDA also met with the Gardaí to discuss concerns about personal safety and security at Rosslare. The upshot of the meeting is that the gardaí have undertaken to address a public meeting here around the middle of April. We’ll inform you when we have a specific date and time. Ray Doyle, RDA Vice Chair. Thank you. Our thanks this month to Austin Codd of Wexford Wheeled Excavator Hire for his assistance with our new playground surfacing, and to Paddy Lambert who carried out the first grass-cut around the village.
