Don’t Forget PTK Book Drive RCCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter is wrapping up its eco-friendly book drive and will collect book donations through Dec. 13. PTK students are collecting old textbooks and any other books you no longer want and diverting them from local landfills. All books collected that cannot be reused or resold will be recycled. As you close out the semester and prepare for the spring, please consider

donating all old books you don’t plan to use again. Faculty collection boxes are located in the back of the North and South Campus copy centers. PTK advisor Karen Lynden will arrange pick-up if you have more than an armful of books to donate. Contact Karen at Karen. lynden@rccc.edu with any questions. The book drive helps PTK defray the costs of attending conferences and support honor society projects.

RCCC Foundation News Board of Directors Makes Changes At its Nov. 10 meeting, the RCCC Foundation Board amended and reinstated a number of by-law changes. The new by-laws state the RCCCF can have 15-30 members, expanding the capacity for extensive resource development for the college. The new by-laws also indicated there will be three standing committees made up of Board members. These include Finance, Governance, and Development. Other special committees will be formed as needed. Some examples already include the golf tournament, scholarship and grant selection, major gifts and annual fund. The Finance Committee presented a new Investment Policy which was adopted. It includes a spending policy that is comparable to other community college foundations. The committee also recommended the hiring of investment managers from BB&T to manage the principal endowed funds for the next three years. This will allow the Foundation to receive a higher return and enable more students and programs through strategic funding in the form of grants and scholarships. The Development Committee presented the “Vision 2015 Plan.” (see page 3) Since June 2010, after the Foundations’ strategic planning session with the RCCC Board of Trustees and leadership staff, this committee completed the mission, vision and goals for the next four years. The Governance Committee nominated two new Board members – Kate Grew and Starling Johnson. Grew, chief nursing officer for the Jeff Gordon Children’s Hospital, is a Concord resident. Johnson is the sales and marketing associate for Johnson Concrete in Salisbury. Both Grew and Johnson bring a wealth of industry knowledge and will be able to significantly contribute to the Foundations’ Vision 2015 Plan. The RCCC Foundation Board of Directors consists of 22 members representing both Rowan and Cabarrus counties.

During 2011, this group will work to create an RCCC alumni presence, generate an alumni directory, develop annual alumni event, and begin to involve alumni with 50th Anniversary (2013) activities.
