RCCC Bond Campaign Update from President Spalding The first bond campaign in almost 50 years for RCCC in Rowan County has begun! The college has started to inform Rowan County voters and encourage them to support the RCCC bond on Election Day – November 2. We need your help and your vote as well. As you know we are campaigning for a $12 million bond that will address our significant facility needs at the North Campus. RCCC board and staff members and SGA representatives have spoken at 13 civic club meetings and churches thus far, reaching nearly 1,000 members and potential supporters. Between now and Election Day, RCCC representatives will speak at more than 30 club meetings and churches in Rowan County. I have held “Coffee with Carol” meetings, sponsored by our Foundation, to talk about the bond with the program heads and directors here on campus. At the recent Rowan County Fair, RCCC staff members and students handed out hundreds of campaign flyers. These flyers are available to all RCCC employees. Feel free to contact Jeff Lowrance at jeff.lowrance@rccc.edu

to request a supply. Campaign sticker/ buttons also are available through Jeff. The college welcomes any effort by our employees to inform their families, friends and neighbors of the bond referendum. The RCCC website now has a page dedicated to the bond campaign. Go to the home page and click on the “Rowan County Bond for RCCC” button. The web page includes a link to frequently asked questions about the bond and the North Campus needs – http://www.rowancabarrus.edu/bond/faq. html. These pages are a good source of information for anyone with questions about the bond referendum. RCCC also is sending out messages about the bond campaign through our social media sites. In the next few days, an aggressive and highly targeted direct mail effort will begin. An important message being communicated is that voters will have to flip the ballot over to its back side to find the RCCC bond section. Voters choosing a straight-party ticket still must turn the ballot over to vote for the RCCC bond.

Our students also have started their campaign efforts. They have donated $10,000 to the bond campaign and 300 volunteer hours! We are so excited for these students, whose participation in our civic life is not just an exercise; it is a vital campaign for the future of the campus. SGA representatives and other students will attend upcoming Rowan County events and festivals to hand out flyers. The SGA will make use of the RCCC student activities van to transport students to the early voting site at the Rowan Public Library. Then on Election Day, students have volunteered to work many of the county’s polling sites, handing out “vote yes” reminders. We’re also building a schedule through which employees can volunteer cont. pg. 3

Team RCCC was leading all other competitors after the second game by more than 100 pins. However, as the

third game began, the other teams began to make a run and picked up momentum. The team from Fayetteville Technical Community College (FTCC) pulled ahead of RCCC and took home the firstplace honors. “We all had a great time, and for our first-time team participants, they enjoyed representing our college on this
