FROM THE DESK OF THE PRESIDENT
T O M K E A R N S
Welcome to the Summer Edition of Ripples
Welcome to the Summer Edition of Ripples. First, my thanks to the Board for their vote of confidence in providing me the honor of being your President for another year. I would like to congratulate and welcome our newest Board Member, Steve Demeritt. I also want to take a moment to thank Sean Stoneback for his years of service on the Board.
Each year, I reflect on our progress and prepare for another season at RCC We have now fully completed Phase 1A of our Facilities Master Plan as promised in 2022. Now, we can enjoy a construction-free year. Thank you for your support and trust in these projects. RCC is a wonderful place for you and your families to enjoy and continue to attract new members, now and in the future.
Additional highlights include strong financial performance, reflecting the club’s continued growth and stability. We have seen an increase in House Memberships and a growing waitlist for Golf, both indicating high demand and member interest In alignment with the value of our offerings, we have raised Initiation Fees to better reflect the benefits of membership.
This fiscal year, the Board will have a continued focus on strong governance by prioritizing strategy over operations, maintaining fiscal prudence, and addressing deferred maintenance. We are enhancing our partnership with Club Benchmarking to gain a detailed view of our balance sheet and capital needs for the next decade. This collaboration began with our journey to 2025 and involves insights from over 1100 clubs in North America
The Board is striving for improvement by challenging ourselves and every committee with "How can we get better?" We acknowledge the rising costs of belonging, which were necessary to increase our membership. We recognize that member expectations continue to rise, and we remain committed to providing the highest quality facilities and experiences. To support this goal, we are seeking more input from our members. We plan to enhance our survey process to collect more detailed, activity-based feedback, which will help us better understand what we’re doing well and where we can improve
Finally, I would like to remind everyone that you are the owners of this club and should act accordingly. Actions like picking up stray trash, being conscientious stewards of the golf course by repairing ball marks and fixing divots, and properly entering and exiting bunkers contribute significantly to maintaining our status as a premier club. Our tagline, “When You’re Here, You’re Home,” should resonate with all members.
As always, providing outstanding facilities and service is a top priority. The entire Riverton Country Club Board and Staff will continue our efforts to provide the best overall experience for you, your family, and guests. There is much more valuable information in the following pages, so we encourage you to take the time to read this latest edition of Ripples and to stay up to date by checking your email and visiting our website regularly.
I look forward to seeing you all at the club and, as always, please feel free to drop me a note with any ideas or comments.
Built around community and camaraderie, for over a century, members and guests of Riverton Country Club have enjoyed the finest traditions and highest standards of the game on our premier, world-renowned, 18-hole Donald Ross-designed course. Founded in 1900, Riverton was the first New Jersey club to join the Golf Association of Philadelphia. Riverton's course was originally nine holes on sixty-two acres of gently sloping land with tall hardwoods and beautiful wildflowers
The Clubhouse, a graceful, wood-shingle building, sat on the brow of a hill that afforded breathtaking views of the distant Delaware River. When the course opened for play in the summer of 1900, the club had quickly amassed more than one hundred members; from the outset, Riverton's success seemed irrefutable. As the club continued to flourish throughout the early 1900s, members came together to make perhaps the single-most defining decision in the entirety of its 123-year history.
In 1916, Riverton purchased the adjacent land mass and hired the legendary Donald Ross to expand and design a premier championship 18-hole course. Ross had a keen eye for detail and took painstaking measures to ensure slope and break met his approval, and his signature bunkers never appear to have been built but shaped and sculpted by the hands of nature. Nearly 75 years after his death, the magic of playing on a Ross course still exists and is especially apparent here at Riverton.
After beginning a three-phase restoration in 2017, Riverton embarked upon the final phase last Fall and meticulously worked to preserve the course and return most holes to their original layout. Leading this endeavor was Tyler Rae, one of the foremost experts on Donald Ross and the history of his design style, and our incredible Agronomy Team.

GENERALLY SPEAKING
With General Manager
Summer is finally here, and we are thrilled for all that comes with it! There’s nothing more exciting than seeing our members enjoying all the wonderful amenities the club has to offer.
We remained very busy during the so-called “off-season” as we prepared for what we anticipate will be a vibrant and active summer season.
With the departure of our previous chef, I’d like to take a moment to thank our culinary and Food & Beverage management team, who stepped up and took on additional responsibilities. Clare, our Clubhouse Manager; Steve McCamy, our Banquet Chef; and Chris Kuhr, our Sous Chef, worked closely together to keep F&B operations running with ease. I cannot express enough gratitude for the incredible work they’ve done from December through April.
With the hiring of Chef Brendan Kilroy, I am confident in our team’s ability to deliver the outstanding dining experience we all look forward to. We’ve been extremely lucky to have Chef Brendan step in and take the lead of our Food & Beverage team. His energy, commitment, and leadership are sure to bring an elevated experience to our membership. His ingredients are fresh, his ideas are inspired, and it will all be reflected in our menus moving forward.
Looking ahead, we’re excited to launch a new weekly tradition: Sunday Fundays! Join us every Sunday from 12:00PM–4:00PM for a lively afternoon by the pool, complete with a live DJ.
And to make your weekends even better, we’re extending our pool hours to open earlier, giving you more time to relax and start your day by the water! Plus, we’ve added more seating and expanded the lounge area to enhance your comfort and overall experience.
On a personal note, you may not see me around the club for the next few weeks, as my husband Kevin and I are thrilled to be expecting our first child in early July!
While I take some time away, I have complete confidence in my incredible team to hold down the fort in my absence. I’ll still be available to support them as needed and will stay in the loop should anything important arise.
Original Clubhouse Built: 1900 Current clubhouse was built in: 1959
Initiation: $250
Sockeye Red Salmon Platter: $1.50
Ice Cream Sundae: .30 cents
We’re headed in the right direction, and I’m proud to share that we closed out the year strong with a total of 105 new members joining our club. Even accounting for natural departures, we experienced net growth and were even able to offer movement on our golf waitlist a significant milestone!
Much of this momentum was driven by the final push before the fiscal year ended, as many took advantage of the savings before the initiation fee increase. To our members, thank you for being the driving force behind this success. Your referrals to friends and family made all the difference.
Interest in our club continues to grow, and we’re currently welcoming a new wave of prospective members touring our facilities. I hope you enjoy meeting these future members through our monthly welcome emails and the exciting calendar of events we’ve planned this year.
We're also proud to continue offering a Referral Reward Program a benefit that sets us apart from other clubs in the region. When you refer someone who joins the club, and you formally confirm the recommendation to me, you’ll receive a $250 credit on your member statement. While many clubs don’t offer incentives, we believe you, our members, are our greatest ambassadors and we’re thrilled to reward you for helping us grow such a vibrant and welcoming community.
A Big Thank You & A Warm Welcome
As we close out a remarkable year, we extend our sincere appreciation to outgoing Membership Committee members James Donovan and Kelly Dellinger for their dedication and service. And we’re excited to welcome Ilana Brodsky and Anthony DeGerolamo to the committee. Anthony has already brought fresh ideas and a shared passion for enhancing the member experience we’re thrilled to have both on board.
On a Personal Note...
I’m truly honored to be your Membership Director, continuing meaningful relationships, welcoming new ones, and sharing in the joy of watching your families grow. Our motto is, “When You’re Here, You’re Home,” and I strive every day to make that true for every one of you! What truly sets us apart is how deeply my team is invested in ensuring that your experience here is nothing short of exceptional
Here’s to continued growth, lasting memories, and the joy of community.
And as always, if you have a referral, don’t hesitate to reach out 856-829-5500 x12 or donna@rivertoncc.com.
Care for the Course: Respect the Grounds, Respect the Game
with Drew White, course superintendent & Mike Ferguson, Head Professional
Golf is more than a sport; it’s rooted in respect, honesty, and responsibility. Maintaining the course is a shared effort. While the maintenance team handles the upkeep of the fairways, greens, bunkers, and other areas, golfers also have an important role Each player should follow proper etiquette and take simple steps to help protect and preserve the course for everyone
One of the most noticeable issues on golf courses is damage to the greens and fairways Ball marks on the green and divots in the fairway may seem like minor blemishes, but if left unrepaired, they can lead to longterm damage and poor playing conditions
Repairing Ball Marks and Divots
A ball mark can cause the surface to become uneven This not only affects the playability of the green for others but also slows down the grass ’ recovery process Using a ball mark repair tool, gently push from the outside of the ball mark into the center Avoid prying the center up as this will damage the roots and lower the likelihood of the ball mark recovering Similarly, divots occur when players take turf out of the ground during a swing, especially with irons Golfers should either replace the chunk of grass (if it’s intact) or use the sand/seed mixture provided by the course. Repairing divots helps maintain even fairways, ensures healthy grass regrowth, and prevents erosion or dead patches from forming.
Bunker Etiquette
Bunkers are an essential part of course design and strategy, but they require careful maintenance After hitting a shot from a sand trap, golfers must rake the area to erase their footprints and smooth over any marks
Bunker rakes are placed around the bunkers on the low side of the bunkers. Under the bunker rakes, you will find a “T” painted in white on the turf. These indicate where the rake should be replaced after usage.
Properly raking ensures the next player has a fair shot and keeps the bunker in good condition Golfers should also avoid entering and exiting the bunker from steep or high edges, as this can cause the sand and bunker walls to erode or collapse.
tee box awareness
Tee boxes often experience a lot of concentrated wear Repeated practice swings or hitting from the same spot can tear up the turf and make it difficult for grass to grow evenly. Boxes full of divot repair sand are located on all par-3 tee boxes. If you elect to use an iron of the tee, please consider taking the divot bottle from your cart to the teeing ground with you If your tee breaks, please place the broken tee in the nearby collection bins instead of leaving it on the tee
Respecting Cart Rules and Paths
Golf carts are convenient, but they can cause significant damage if not used responsibly Please adhere to all cart signage We are actively working with Yamaha to enhance and improve Yamatrack Please do not drive your cart past the green and white stakes that are in the fairways They are an indicator of when you should return to the cart path As you drive and park on the cart path, please keep all four tires on the path Unfortunately, we do not have a continuous cart path system; therefore, when we are able to go to a modified cart path, only the agronomy team will place ropes and/or stakes to direct traffic around wet areas
Respecting Cart Rules and Paths
At times, the agronomy team will need to perform tasks during periods of high play throughout the day The most common task is syringing the greens during periods of high temperatures. If an agronomy team member is on the green watering, please give them the “right of way ” and suspend your play. The Agronomy Team syringes the greens in a manner that is designed to have the least amount of impact on play; however, this is a necessary task and needs to be completed in a timely manner As an indicator that the agronomy team member is syringing, that team member will remove the flag stick and replace it will they are finished We gladly ask you to hold play until the flag stick is back in place and the team member is safely off the green
Pace of Play: Keep It Moving
A pillar of this Club is our swift pace of pace. Our target pace is 3 hours and 50 minutes, and it’s achievable when players remain mindful of their position on the course. Playing "ready golf," being efficient with club selection, and always keeping up with the group ahead are simple ways to stay on track.
We’ve also implemented easy-to-remember checkpoints throughout the course to help monitor pace and give subtle reminders to keep things moving When you finish hole 7, you should be an hour and thirty minutes (1:30) into your round After Hole 14, you should be at three hours (3:00) in your round A timely round benefits everyone and allows for a more enjoyable experience, reduces congestion, and respects the time commitments of all players
Elevating the Caddie Experience: Tradition Meets Value
In a time when golf is becoming more technology-driven and individualized, we ’ re proud to highlight a tradition that’s too valuable to lose: the caddie experience. With 31 caddies available, we encourage all players to make use of this incredible resource.
Caddies do more than carry clubs. They enhance your round with local knowledge, read greens with precision, and add a personalized element that GPS simply can’t offer. Beyond their expertise, using a caddie promotes a pace-friendly, conversational, and respectful round it’s golf the way it was meant to be played
Bringing a caddie along is not just about tradition; it is about elevating your round For newer players, it’s a chance to learn and grow For experienced players, it’s a way to rediscover the rhythm and camaraderie that can sometimes get lost in today’s fast-paced approach to the game
Let’s Make This Year Count
Together, we can ensure that this season is one of the best yet not only through great play but by how we care for the course, respect each other’s time, and embrace the timeless traditions that make golf special. Let’s fix our divots, stay on pace, and bring caddies back into the spotlight.
After all, the best rounds aren’t just played, they’re experienced
Save The Date

While we’re currently in full swing with an exciting lineup of summer events, it’s never too early to look ahead. Be sure to save the dates for our major fall events, and mark your calendars. By now, we’re sure many of you have had the pleasure of meeting our Assistant PGA Professional, Evan Waldron. what members are saying
“As new members of Riverton, we were admittedly curious about our slogan, “When you’re Here, you’re Home.” However, from the moment Jack greets you, it feels like a vacation at a five-star resort The quality of the cocktails is unlike any in the area and the friendly atmosphere stands out.
On our recent visit, we hosted friends who had recently taken us to the Union League We sat in the Hemingway Room with Isabel, who managed my menu requests effortlessly, ensuring our group was happy The drinks and food made for a lovely night, and our friends enjoyed themselves Here, you truly feel at Home ”
We joined Riverton in April 2025, and since we live just five minutes away, it’s already becoming our second home.
Words from your fellow members...
“When You’re Here, You’re Home”
-Brendan & Lauren Arey
With two sets of twins our six-yearolds and our one-year-olds life is always a bit chaotic (in the best way) Our kids probably already know more members than we do by now and they definitely act like they run the place!
It feels like such a gift to have a beautiful, safe space where the kids can burn off energy and we can enjoy a cocktail in peace.
The Bunny Brunch was a huge hit fun, safe, and incredibly well organized Big kudos to the team for putting on such a thoughtful event!
In December, we became club members, which proved to be the best decision I ever made for my family. Riverton has been our venue of choice for many family gatherings and holidays, consistently indulging in exceptional cuisine, cocktails and exceptional service We eagerly anticipate creating many more memories in the near future at our new home away from home.
-Stacy Benish
We’re really looking forward to plenty of pool days, patio dinners, and making new memories as the season unfolds. Can’t wait to meet more of you around the club soon!
My husband, family, and I joined in November and since then we have been soaking up the RCC life From Day 1, we have felt welcomed. To be honest, I was nervous we would not fit in, as we are not "fancy" people, but we have not felt that way at all The staff are so friendly, not only to us, but our children Each person we have come in contact with has provided outstanding service. From hosting two events at the bowling alley, to attending the Gala and Easter Brunch, to attending many dinners and events in between, we’ve been impressed My parents have also come twice with us and they have been blown away with the service and comfort of RCC
Most recently, my husband and I planned a date night where we “attempted” to play pickleball and then ended with dinner on the patio It happened to be the night with live music, which was a lucky coincidence The food was outstanding, as it always is. The ambience of the patio with live music makes you feel like you are on vacation. We are second generation Cinnaminson residents, raising the next generation here and I can honestly say you do not feel like you are in Cinnaminson! It was also such a breath of fresh air to see how welcomed kids and families are Even though we were without our kids at the moment, there were groups of families enjoying a meal nearby Their kids were throwing the football around on the yard, having so much fun Even the singer joined in and had a catch with them from the patio! We agreed that the kids definitely are coming with us next time for the live music
We feel extremely fortunate to have this home away from home, just five minutes down the road We are looking forward to making many more memories here this summer!

CHEF'S TABLE
Meet Chef Brendan Kilroy
As the new Executive Chef at Riverton Country Club, I’m excited to begin this next chapter with a strong focus on quality, collaboration, and consistency
One of my top priorities is building strong relationships with vendors who share our values, especially when it comes to sourcing fresh, seasonal, and local ingredients. These partnerships allow us to craft thoughtful, well-executed dishes that showcase the best of each season
We hope you ’ re loving the new menu that my team and I have prepared It was designed with care and creativity, using the freshest ingredients available to bring a modern perspective to some of our classic offerings. Our goal was to introduce new flavors and ideas while still keeping things familiar and approachable.
Alongside the culinary team, I’m committed to delivering an experience that blends traditional club favorites with elevated, well-balanced updates. We want every dish to reflect the welcoming and refined spirit of Riverton and to create something special for both members and their guests

Part of the Tri-County Swimming Pool Association, we compete against teams in Burlington Camden, & Gloucester counties, with our swimmers also attending the championship meets. Our coaches teach flip turns to some and fine-tune stroke techniques to others.
There are fun events planned for parents and swimmers all summer long from weekly team luncheons and out of the pool activities to parent socials and parties.
Typically around 100 members, swimmers practice with their age group but mingle with all ages to create a unique team bond that fosters mentorship and lasting summer friendships.
Come
make summer memories with us!

IN OUR PICKLEBALL ERA
Where Strategy Meets Fun – Pickleball
Pickleball continues to grow in popularity here at Riverton, and we’re excited to share that we’ve joined an interleague with other area clubs, bringing even more excitement to the courts!
Often described as a thrilling blend of tennis and ping pong, pickleball offers fast-paced fun, strategy, and energy in every match. It’s more than just a game it’s a full experience that’s both social and active. Best of all, it’s a fantastic low-impact workout, making it perfect for all ages and fitness levels.

pickleball 101
let’s break it down
The game and each rally starts with the serve. The player on the right side of the court, facing their opponents, starts the serve You serve diagonally to your opponent, into the right or left service area:
A serve must be hit with an underhand stroke or backhand with contact below the waist Your arm must move in an upward arc when you strike the ball You can hit the ball out of the air or drop the ball on the ground and hit it The goal of the pickleball serve is to put the ball in play (Quite different from the tennis serve, where the goal is to serve aggressively to win the point.)
After the serve, gameplay continues until a “fault” is committed A fault ends the rally There are 3 types of faults:
The serve does not clear the kitchen (including the line) A shot is hit out of bounds behind the baseline or outside the sideline A shot is hit into the net
The 7 ft zone on each side marks the non-volley zone, or 'kitchen' This means you can never hit a volley while having any part of your body in the kitchen And you can’t let your momentum carry you into the kitchen after a volley either Once you play, you’ll see players at the net have a big advantage. They can hit any ball high enough with a downward "smash". This shot puts opponents immediately on the defensive
If your opponent hits a short shot landing in the kitchen, you can enter & hit from the kitchen Dinks are a defensive shot and an important pickleball strategy. Often your best move after moving into the kitchen to field a dink is to dink right back to your opponent’s kitchen.
The ball must bounce on both sides before either team can volley
Before any player can hit a shot out of the air, the ball must bounce once on each side (known as the 'double bounce rule'). So. if your partner is serving and you start at the kitchen, you’re in a dangerous position Why? Because the returning team can hit a shot right at you, and if you react with a volley, that’s a fault. You lose the point.
You only win points on your serve
06 09 08 07
You can hit groundstrokes in the kitchen first team to 11 wins but you must win by 2
You only win points on your serve, and you continue serving until you lose a rally After winning each point on your serve, you switch sides with your partner and serve to the other opponent
Both partners serve in a turn
In each turn, both players (in doubles) get the opportunity to serve. In scoring, you’ll hear players announce three numbers, "Zero, zero two" So what the heck is that third number? It tracks which of the two players on a team has the serve
Let’s say the game is tied at 3-3. If you start the serve, you’ll announce “3-3-1,” so everyone knows you are the first player in rotation serving. If you lose the rally, the ball doesn’t go to your opponents It goes to your teammate who will announce “3-3-2"
If your partner loses their serve, a 'side out' occurs in which the ball returns to your opponents who again announce, “3-3-1".
Following all the rules above, the game continues until one team gets 11 points The catch? You have to win by 2
