Salon de la Circularité

My design was inspired by nature, particularly the biodiversity of the ocean world that I witnessed while diving in the Indian ocean this summer. The fluidity in water, textures, colors, and marine life inspired me to capture the physicality and emotions of nature, and foster an indoor connection to the outside environment through the color palette and finishes. Materiality and texture are sensory experiences, not simply visual, and my space was a feast for the senses.

Salon de la Circularité

The centerpiece of Salon de la Circularité was an exclusive collaboration between Cisco Home, Libeco, and Lenzing to create a unique circular sofa and armchair combination that boasts a near zero-waste completion process. The Richard Sofa and Armchair from Cisco Home are crafted from FSCcertified wood, filled with Lenzing TENCEL™ Lyocell Fibers crafted in their unique closed-loop process, and upholstered in Libeco's highlyrenewable, zero-waste Belgian flax linen. Thanks to each brand's numerous sustainability and waste-management initiatives, along with their many combined certifications with organizations like the SFC, FSC, GOTS, OEKO-TEX, SAC, and many more, this is a firstof-its-kind offering in regeneratively designed luxury seating.

Salon de la Circularité

I invited these brands because they prioritize circularity, and use certified healthy materials with standard certification. They have transparency through their affiliations and accreditations such as being part of the Sustainable Furnishings Council (for whom I’m a 2-year ambassador), FSC, OEKO-TEX, SAC, C2C, etc. I know I can trust that they are thorough and committed, and not just “greenwashing” because it’s lucrative and trendy.

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM As an advocate for bringing the circular economy in the furnishings industry, I was honored to host The Big Shift: Why Circular Design is the Way of the Future, sharing the expert wisdom of Susan Inglis (SFC), Cisco Pinedo (Cisco Home), Kathryn Richardson (Libeco), and Chad Bolick (Unifi).

The next generation of consumers are more mindful about the environment and climate change than ever before, and demand is high for the furnishings industry to shift from the linear make-take-toss lifecycle into more circular and sustainable practices. I hosted a lively discussion with industry pioneers and manufacturers, including Chad Bolick (Unifi), Susan Inglis (SFC), Cisco Pinedo (Cisco Home), and Kathryn Richardson (Libeco), who seek to replace the end-of-life concept with upcycling, shift toward renewable energy, reduce carbon emission, eliminate the use of toxic chemicals, and importantly, aim to eliminate waste.
