VERINITAS

VISUAL ARTS CENTER

Fifth year, Graduation Project

Instructor: Prof Saleem Dahabreh

Project type: Public educational facility

Area: 5,400 m2

Site location: Amman, Ras Al-Ein, Jordan

VERINITAS; Highlighting Imposing Paradoxical Connections

Illustrating the juxtaposing relationship between modern graphical art practices and the timeless essence of traditional raw art. Presenting these two systems side by side, one is rejected by highlighting its dominant connection to the other In this paradoxical architectural setting, what seems contradictory at first reveals deeper understanding upon closer examination, unveiling hidden truths

RAS AL-EIN

In the heart of Amman, within Ras Al Ein's cultural enclave, stands an estate of art that embodies a state of art This architectural space serves as a dynamic platform where individuals express their beliefs and identities within the Jordanian social landscape, merging downtown cultural crafts, vibrant neighboring artistic districts, and the energy of online artists into one collage-like hub Bridging digital and physical realms, nurturing artistic talent, and amplifying economic potential, while addressing the need for social connection in a tangible, communal environment

Cross Section

Conceptual Framework revolves around the generation of forms through collage an assembly of perceptual compositions and a system of representational images of space. This approach unveils novel imaginative spaces, establishing a foundation for the ambiance of future constructions. The synthesis of these elements forms a juxtaposing relationship between the two systems

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

symbolizes the tangible world, where art emerges from craftsmanship; the profound bond between the artist and the materials Where art is at its real raw form with full materiality and structure Emerging artistic endeavors within the surrounding districts and site's history ,encouraging a return to traditional art creation

encapsulates the online art scene, prioritizing visuals over the meaningful connection between artist and artwork. While these trendy art forms attract attention, their fleeting nature leaves a lasting detrimental impact over time

BETWEEN THE TWO RÆLS

Reflecting the 'Bilbao effect,' favoring striking architecture over building substantial art collections, leading to a superficial branding within the architectural realm. Multiple installations are employed to create an overwhelming effect and a chaotic display

Echoing timeless values amidst the digital age, drawing inspiration from Jabal Amman's historic homes, celebrating authenticity akin to rough stone's raw beauty. Exposed steel structures, fostering free interior spaces for artistic creation, transparency and depth

FROM THE REEL WORLD TO THE REAL WORLD

These thresholds are designed to heighten your senses, much like the dopamine rush you experience while scrolling through reels, drawing you deeper into the project. This journey mirrors the transition from the reel world to the real world that echoes the warmth of historic charm of Jabal Amman's architecture in massing and materiality, reminiscent of the area's historic stone houses, create spaces dedicated to the authentic creation, birth, and interpretation of art. As you explore these spaces, you'll find a seamless connection to outdoor areas, fostering a genuine interaction between the real world within the building and the "real real" world outside. This project invites you in, subtly guiding you through a journey from the enticing reel world to the tangible real world, culminating in a reconnection with the outdoors. Here, in the common outdoor areas, you'll rediscover your connection with people and the world around you, completing the transition from virtual to reality in a deeply meaningful way.

MORPHOLOGICAL PROCESS

As the conceptual form emerged, shaped by the site’ s essence and its seamless fusion with art, the plot’ s physical characteristics introduced a dynamic link, a pathway that invites exploration and serves as the main axis of movement, seamlessly connecting art, artists, and audiences This axis weaves through different levels of the site, defining its primary route and housing galleries and exhibition spaces within thresholds that ignite curiosity and spark excitement.

AIRPORT TERMINAL

Fourth year, Second semester

Instructor: Dr Deyala Altarawneh

Project type: Transportation facility

Area: 8,000 m2

Site location: Aqaba, King Hussein International Airport, Jordan

Many airport issues stem from planners imposing a single design concept on the entire terminal. The best airport terminal design is likely a hybrid How can we balance terminal functionality with designers' aesthetics? Determine the right hybridization degree by examining traffic variations Major design differences are in handling transfers and peak traffic.

DATA COLLECTION

Three pragmatic concepts to choose upon

FORMAL LANGUAGE

In architecture, balancing conceptual form and pragmatism is crucial for creating expressive yet functional buildings. This balance should consider societal needs and cultural beliefs, addressing behavioral and psychological relationships between people and their environment The Venturi school, a Postmodernist perspective, views architecture as "hybrid rather than pure, compromising rather than clean," embracing complexity and incorporating various references to express multiple layers of meaning.

× Implementing “mixed” compositional approaches

× The axis of symmetry

× The play of multiple grids

× Disjunction of the exterior walls from the internal volumes

× Articulated compressive vectors in a thickened, condensed façade apparent in the final plans ”

Robert Venturi’ s conceptual form analysis

× Connective repeated, doubled and moved horizontally elements on the facades
× Empty walls, excavation shapes

In Moretti’ s material pallete, can be appropriated as one of the major forerunners to postmodern architecture in scholarship and exhibition Odd juxtapositions of marble, rocks, glass, metal, ceramic, and wood occur throughout the building without any apparent ordering system, creating a distinctly chaotic appearance While there may be a degree of randomness in Moretti’ s material choices, they are carefully orchestrated to be both provocative and generally pleasing.

MORPHOLOGICAL PROCESS

The Grays used compositional techniques to assemble and relocate signs from architectural memory, ensuring that forms and meanings were reflected in their work. Luigi Moretti's buildings influenced Venturi’ s notable projects, adding complexity and showcasing his mastery of nuance and ambiguity. "Il Girasole" has generated discussions about its role as a pioneering example of postmodern design, highlighting its architectural significance

ECOSHELTER EMERGENCY SHELTERS

Fourth year, second semester

Instructor: Dr Deyala Altarawneh

Project type: Housing Units

Area: 15-20 m2

Location: Northwest Syria

Given the challenges of poor accessibility and a slow response rate in Syria following the recent 7.8 earthquake in Turkey-Syria, the aim of this project is to provide housing shelters for the earthquake Syrian IDPs. It is important to note that this may be a long-term situation

MATERIAL AND FORM

The selection of Steel Structural Insulated Panels was driven by their availability, recyclability, durability, and ease of assembly Additionally, their standard dimensions were a determining factor in choosing the unit dimensions

Standard dimensions

2.4*1.06 m panels

0.16 m steel framing

SYSTEMS

The primary focus was on developing a shelter that could provide essential organizational and material assistance as part of the camp management response strategies, in line with the initiatives of the Global Shelter Cluster

PRIVATE VILLA

Second year, first semester

Instructor: Architect Haneen Al Swalqa

Project type: Residential

Area: 450 m2

Site location: Amman, Dabouq

The villa's design aims to achieve a unified and visually pleasing outcome through the application of formal design principles, promoting a sense of balance and organization in its overall appearance. This is primarily achieved by prioritizing the site's orientation and functional requirements in the design process

MORPHOLOGY

In order to promote an open and interconnected living space, the villa's layout has been carefully planned to maximize the facades, views, and access to sunlight. A transitional mass has been designed to seamlessly integrate the house's functions, blurring the boundaries between the interior and exterior spaces.

RECEPTION SPACE

Fourth year, Internship Program

Instructor: AJ architects

Project type: Interior Designing

Area: 40 m2

Client: Royal Academy of Culinary Arts

The main goal in designing this space was to define various areas seating, communication, reception, and corridor within the larger space I used different materials and dynamic lines to break rigid boundaries and create a sense of movement, mirroring these lines on the ceilings with varied materials and lighting This approach ensures each area is distinct yet fluid, with signage and smart wayfinding systems making it a comfortable and easily navigable space for students
