Glendale’s Afterschool Program Earns Statewide Accreditation

Glendale’s city-run afterschool program — offered at Rose Lane Community Center, Glendale Community Center and O’Neil Recreation Center — has earned accreditation from the Arizona Center for Afterschool Excellence (ACAE), recognizing its commitment to high standards in youth development.

Serving about 75 children per site each weekday, the program combines academic support with STEM projects, recreational activities and team-building exercises. The G.O.L.D. leadership track includes job training and hands-on opportunities, leading to several participants being hired part-time by Glendale Parks and Recreation.

Accreditation took seven months involving documentation of policies and practices along with on-site evaluations by ACAE teams. “They were so impressed, we received accreditation immediately after the final visit,” said Recreation Supervisor Dean Kinnoin.

The recognition affirms the program’s role as a high-quality, no-cost option for families — often outperforming fee-based alternatives. With three-year goals in place and access to continued ACAE training, the team is already looking ahead to what’s next.

For more information on the G.O.L.D Program see page 13.
