00 play with heart { R awiwan ‘Som’ Atsawathanaphaisan } A musician works through the medium of sound, while a g raphic desig ner works through the medium of sight and touch. Both play with their hearts, using their memory and emotions to create and communicate.

“ Love what you do and do what you love. Don’t listen to anyone else who tells you not to do it. You do what you want, what you love. Imag ination should be the center of your life.” —R A Y B R A D B U R Y

Play With Heart is the phrase I thought was the best to describe my desig n methods, because the ideas of learning, practicing and experimenting with desig n over and over in the past few years has allowed me to do desig n quickly without memorizing. My desig n contains two very different ideas coming from hand-made art and g raphic desig n. They are different st yles, but they both can be combined to create one-of-a-kind pieces.

01 A Stolen Moment of Sretsis { Print, Typography } Mission Create a fashion magazine focusing on experimental t ypog raphy. Create interesting spreads that ref lect the nature of the fashion articles and try things that have not been seen before in editorial spreads. The magazine should be beautiful and a display creative use of t ypog raphy.

streng th, youth, energ y and enthusiasm. The magazine will be a mix of fashion and art. I did a lot of research, looking at many magazines that were published in the United States and in Asia. I decided to desig n a large format magazine that was clean and uncluttered. I wanted to create an enjoyable experience for the reader, as well as enhance the subject matter with beautiful t ypog raphy. Using color and t ype, I created a personalit y at the beginning of each article that carried into the following spreads. My target audience would be those who are looking for sources of inspiration in fashion, art and t ypog raphy. Tit le U & M E M AG A Z I N E

food products and items for people who are vegetarian and also people who are ready to try something different. Plantivore is a food company strongly based on supporting and promoting the consumption of organic vegetarian food that is delicious. I wanted this delicatessen to have a very fresh, energetic and welcoming ambience to draw people from all walks of life. Plantivore is a concept based on exploring vegetarian dishes made from best ing redients of the season and the local farmers and g rowers. The widely varied vegetarian menu aims to provide organic options for meat eaters, vegetarians and vegans alike. Tit le P L A N T I VO R E D E L I C AT E S S E N

04 Hang Tweets Somewhere { Packaging } Mission To create a birdhouse that is made entirely out of recycled materials. The size, shape and look are completely open for desig n exploration. I was also responsible for creating a brand image, product name, and target buyer.

unique in house decoration products and to give the consumers complete satisfaction in every eco-friendly product they purchase. I decided to do my birdhouse on a concept based on home decoration and interior sculptural desig n. Desig ning sustainable birdhouses was about exploring the ideas of being environmentally friendly and making products out of recyclable material. I wanted to appeal to a niche market of people that were interested in recyclable materials and would want to decorate their house with similar products. The birdhouse was made completely out of doilies. The doily represents something that is easily neglected in today’s world and also something easily available. I would like to spread the message of sustainabilit y with informative yet unique packaging for my brand Starling Stationette. Tit le S TA R L I N G S TAT I O N E T T E ’ S B I R D H O U S E

06 Only Takes a Moment { Print, Identity, Packaging } Mission Desig n a film festival honoring the f ilms of a selected director. I wanted to find a common thread that runs through all the f ilms of a director and creates deliverables based on that thread. These deliverables would include a poster, catalog book, DV D booklet, tickets, and other promotional materials.

Film Festival is dedicated to Sof ia Coppola, the writer, screenwriter and director. She is known for artistic movies like Lost in Translation and Somewhere. This annual festival started in 2005 and would take place every year after. The common thread for 2012 is “Alienated and insecure people looking for direction in life have brief encounters that change their life forever.” I created deliverables that ref lected the subject of encounters, including a catalog book, luggage, advertisement, DV D packaging, DV D booklet, tickets, soundtrack, posters, a f lying logo, schedule, business card, letterhead and envelope. 08 Beyond The Airline { Print, Identity } Mission We took a defunct brand and recreated it to thrive in today’s world. We set out to make it a success once again.

It will not only take them to places of unlimited peace and serenit y but take them on the most adventurous and thrilling of all experiences that they will remember for a life time. The brand will be divided into six sub-brands to precisely serve its travelers’ interests and needs. 09 Shaken Not Stirred { Packaging } Mission Choose either beer, wine or your choice of alcohol. Be highly creative, plan on rub downs and pop display. Even desig n a new bottle shape if you want. You’ll need to make it yourself, or out source it. Remember, this is your portfolio and opportunit y to be really creative. Except to all options, directions, and changes to this format.

tunate places in the whole of Italy. It was summer time in Irpinia in 1962 when this small town was hit by an earthquake that brought down almost the entire region including the winery and its cellar tunnel. Only a few bottles survived. The brand I am launching is called 6.2 Mag nitude. It is a range of wines honoring the wines that were lost in an earthquake and 50 yrs later were brought in the open in 2012. These wine still taste and feel unique and few of the wine in good condition even after this long. My concept is to create a new wine that will represent sophistication, st yle and more so, honoring the history of a winery that was devastated. Targeted at the wine collectors, antique wine collectors and some high prof ile wine shops around the world, this will be marketed in a “Limited Edition” wine bottle. 0 10 Healthy Skin, Start Young { Mfa Thesis } Mission The MFA thesis requires choosing a topic then creating a solution through research and brainstorming. This is all done through the medium of g raphic desig n. My task was to know the proposed topic backward and forward then develop an aesthetic and intelligent concept and comprehensive solution in the semesters that followed.

“ Dermatolog ists say that up to 80% of lasting damage happens by age 18. That’s why when it comes to healthy skin, it’s all about prevention and starting young.”

Solution I present Little Bird Box. It is a fun subscription service that encourages tween girls to learn about healthy skin, hair and nails. Little Bird Box wants to make it fun, easy and delightful for children to spend time building and creating together with parents. Each season we send our subscribers educational materials that aim to educate tweens along with spa fun, pampering tips and treatments, hair st yling tips and tricks and DIY natural beaut y recipes. It will be a nice surprise for children each season when the boxes arrive at their door. My aim is to teach tween girls age 8-12 years about healthy skin, hair and nail habits, so they will learn how to practice good skin care. It’s all about prevention and encouraging the development of lifelong habits that ensure good healthy skin. Tit le L I T T L E B I R D B OX

Hello! my name is Robin I’m the founder of Little Bird Box for tween girls. My mother named me Robin after her favorite bird. The love of beauty runs deep in my family. One day, my mother told me that when she was my age she treated breakouts by baking in the sun and using the strongest drugstore was so wrong. That’s why I wrote this book to teach you about the skin you are in. Let me guide you to start taking care of your skin. It’s all about prevention and starting now.
