Connecting in Ireland
Great news for puzzle fans in Ireland! The Irish Jigsaw Puzzle Association has been founded by UK Nationals Solos winner Emma. The association is a great starting point for puzzlers wanting to get more involved in jigsaw community activities there. There are exciting plans afoot for events that will be announced soon so follow on Facebook to stay up to date.
If you think your puzzle shelf is getting out of hand, try storing the World’s Largest Collection of Jigsaw Puzzles! At a whopping 4060 puzzles, Liza Fireman of the USA has recently achieved Guinness World RecordBreaking status with her bumper collection of Ravensburger puzzles.
Our Cover Puzzle
Artist Angela Holland created the wonderful image for our cover puzzle, the Bridgerton 1000-piece. This warm, contemporary take on the hit Netflix series will appeal to anyone who loves the Regency style with its depiction of a summer’s afternoon by the river. The puzzle features many favourite characters from the show, as well as some characters yet to be featured. With a background of studying both fashion and textiles and Theatre Design, this project was a dream come true for Nottingham-based Angela.
“Drawing the Bridgerton jigsaw didn’t feel like work at all, pouring over scenes, studying the lace on a gown, the pattern on a tunic, or trying to capture the relationships between the characters felt like pure joy, in fact the only hard part, was keeping it a secret! I really felt like Penelope Featherington struggling to keep her secret identity as Lady Whistledown! The project was a pleasure from start to finish.”
COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS
The team behind the Norfolk Jigsaw Festival got in touch to share details of their fundraising puzzle event. This August marks the second festival, following the success of their inaugural showcase held in Sharrington Village Hall.
Festival organiser, Sarah Bell, said: “It was amazing to see the number of visitors through our doors, all supporting Norfolk’s first ever jigsaw festival in 2024. The Join A Jigsaw table was so busy throughout the weekend and really showed us how important these events are for our wider community. It was fantastic to see people making friends and joining forces to work together. It really demonstrates the importance of our rural village hall.”
With hundreds of visitors expected through the doors, the event will see a wide selection of new and preloved puzzles of all sizes on display for purchase as well as a variety of jigsaw-themed activities and competitions to take part in including a dedicated children’s area. All the profits raised during the event will help pay for upkeep of the village hall – a vital hub in the local community.

magical world Aimee’s
Our featured artist this month is the wonderful Aimee Stewart. With her dreamy, ethereal illustrative style, it’s no surprise that her work is a hit with puzzle fans worldwide.
Dreams coming true
It’s 2025 and you are one of the world’s best-known and best-loved artists in the puzzle world. But when you were a child, what did you dream of being when you grew up?
AS: As a child, I just wanted to be creative. I was always drawn to art—choosing crayons, coloured pencils, and ink markers over just about anything else. And I was a constant daydreamer. Some days I wanted to be an artist, other days I dreamed of being an author. At one point I desperately wanted to be an archaeologist! And I studied classical piano for over a decade. But I didn’t set out with a plan to become any of these, professionally. For me, my creative pursuits were purely based on the love of doing it, not for the monetary gain. That’s why, once I was out of school… I worked normal jobs into my 30’s! It didn’t occur to me to chase my passions as professions. That all happened almost accidentally! But now? It is as if all my childhood daydreams have come true, and it is an amazing feeling!

Into the world of puzzles
You’re a self-taught artist—was there a specific moment or event that prompted you to pursue this field, or was it a more organic process that evolved over time?
AS: In my mid-thirties, I had already worked just about every day job you can imagine. In the evenings, I’d come home and relax by playing video games. I loved them, and I still do! But over time, I started to wonder what it would feel like to create my own worlds instead of exploring ones built by others. That’s when I began experimenting with digital art. At first, around 2004, I began sharing my artwork online purely for the joy of it, again with no thought of making a career out of it. It felt like being part of this small, passionate community of fledgling digital artists exploring photo montage in entirely new ways.
Everything changed in 2007 when an agent reached out to me after I had been featured in several issues of Advanced Photoshop Magazine. They saw something in my work and suggested that others might enjoy it enough to buy it. That moment was the spark that set everything in motion, and from there, this unexpected and beautiful career began to unfold. And in 2013 I signed with MGL Art, who took my images to the puzzle community and beyond, and my whole world changed!
Fairies and fantasy
What inspires your passion for the all things fantastical?
AS: Honestly, it’s where my mind feels most at home. I grew up immersed in fairy tales, constantly making up stories in my head about fantastical creatures and magical places. For me, these are the things that fill the heart with delight. I’ve never been one to experience life in a purely mundane way—there’s magic in so much of it, even something as simple as a cobweb catching sunlight.
Fairy tales have always spoken volumes to me, and getting to share that sense of wonder with an audience is truly a dream come true. Even when I create more everyday scenes, I try to infuse them with a touch of whimsy that flirts with the magical. I just really enjoy taking ordinary moments and making them feel extraordinary.
Another new puzzle from Aimee this season is Winter Reading Nook. This cosy corner is the perfect spot to curl up with a good story. Aimee’s favourite classical author is Charles Dickens.
“He was notorious for being a literary maximalist—his stories are overflowing with detail, vibrant characters, intertwining plotlines, and subplots. In a way, the way I pack my puzzles with little treasures and layers feels a bit like how Dickens orchestrated his novels.
”80s to the core
Another strong theme for your pieces is nostalgia—which era do you think Aimee Stewart belongs in?
AS: Oh, that’s easy. I feel incredibly lucky because I got to grow up in the era I’m most nostalgic for. I was born in 1971, so I experienced the 70s as a child and came of age in the 80s as a preteen and teenager. And let me tell you—being a teen in the 80s was like living in a cultural explosion of music, movies, and video games.
I graduated in 1989, and during those years, video arcades were everywhere, and music was phenomenal. We got to see Michael Jackson perform the moonwalk for the first time, Prince releasing masterpiece after masterpiece, and a flood of incredible artists (like my fave band, Duran Duran!) reshaping pop culture. Movies in the 80’s often centered on kids my age, so stepping into a theater on any given Friday night to see Breakfast Club, or Karate Kid, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, or Pretty in Pink felt like watching my life reflected on the big screen. It was awesome!
To this day, I still collect treasures from the 70s and 80s. It’s such a joy to bring that nostalgia forward in my puzzles—not just for fellow Gen X’ers, but for anyone who loves those eras. I adore hearing from fans who say my puzzles take them back to those carefree times. Those moments are worth their weight in gold to me.

Not forgetting foxes
Finally, a little birdie told me that foxes hold a special place in your heart. Can you tell me a little more about that?
Aimee Stewart: ahhh, foxes!! I’ve adored foxes for as long as I can remember. My earliest memory of a fox was when I was five years old at Disneyland. I spotted the fox from Robin Hood walking across the park. I was so excited that I ran straight after him, but he couldn’t see me because I was right behind him. Determined to get his attention, I grabbed his tail and held on for dear life as he walked along, essentially dragging me behind him! Eventually, he turned around, knelt down, and we got a wonderful picture together.
Since that moment, I’ve been utterly charmed by foxes because of their playfulness, their beauty, and the way they seem to step right out of a fairy tale. They are my muse. Now, I often hide a little fox in my puzzles. I haven’t always done it, so some older puzzles don’t have them, and occasionally I’ll forget to tuck one in. But in most of my newer pieces, that fox is there, waiting to be discovered.
In the end, making my puzzle art is now a collaborative effort between myself and my fans. I love them to the moon and back, and adore the wonderful energy we give to each other. They play a vital role in inspiring me to continue doing what I do. So now when I place a fox in a puzzle, it’s a playful wink between me and them - basically saying “Thank you, my friend!”

MEET THE ARTISTS
At the heart of the action were two neverseen-before puzzles for UK Nationals day. The artists came along to join in the fun and meet the competitors on the day. It was a hard job keeping the fantastic designs under wraps until the timer started but we’re loving sharing them now!
Georgia Breeze
North Cornwall-based illustrator Georgia designed the 500-piece Time for Tea puzzle for the Solo category. A celebration of the great British cuppa with its plethora of vintage teacups and teapots, the puzzle even included a nod to her home county with the lovely Cornish-ware.
Georgia has designed several Ravensburger jigsaws, including the pretty 1000-piece Coastal Cottage and Little Garden World puzzles.
We’re looking forward to seeing what Stuart will design next!
Stuart Matthews
Stuart has certainly started his puzzle designing with a bang! His first ever puzzle design was picked as the jigsaw for the Pairs category for championship. Crazy St No.1, The Harbour is a vibrant and unique take on a British seaside setting.
Having studied art and other creative subjects from a young age, Stuart’s passion for illustration has been a constant throughout his life. In developing his artistic style, he has taken inspiration from a variety of painters, artists and illustrators. He particularly enjoys the world of Terry Pratchett and the comic strip Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Watterson.
