Workplace Safety In the Remote Workplace

RIOR TO COVID GENERAL ONLINE WORKERS WERE RARE INDEED, YET tech companies and highly evolved situations fared best under remote worker scenarios. With Covid came the lockdowns, known as stay-at-home orders, social distancing, travel restrictions on a worldwide basis and other impediments for work force participation. While Nevada followed federal guidelines and mirrored California on the stay-at-home orders, many companies were able to remain open when they were deemed an essential service. That didn’t mean that all employees were comfortable staying the course and being on the job and many other “non-essential” employees found themselves out of a job. To help manage the process, continue operations and provide service to customers many companies turned to remote workers. Most people use the word “remote workers” which is different from telecommuting

Mary Lau and just plain working from home. Definitionally speaking, remote work means that you work full-time from anywhere other than the office — at home, a café or even a different country. Telecommuting means that most work is done outside of the office but you still stop by occasionally for in-office work. Work from home refers to having an office where you work fulltime but you work from home every once in a while, or during an emergency. This is seen as a more temporary situation than remote work or telecommuting. It is not uncommon for people to have an office or
workspace in their home, or even a laptop on the kitchen table when necessary. This freedom of movement helps both in childcare and office consistencies; however, as an employer, one is reminded that employee safety is still a major concern.
