How To Take Care of Your Embroidered Kurtis | Wash and Care Tips

HOW TO PROPERLY TAKE CARE OF YOUR EMBROIDERED KURTI Kurtis is an integral part of every woman’s wardrobe. If the embroidery is in Zari, then you care of the kurti even more as zari embroidery is very delicate. It doesn’t mean that you can simply put thread embroidered kurtis in the washing machine. They too require special attention. This article teaches you how to properly take care of your embroidered kurtis.

1. SUCK THE DIRT: It is fairly easy to remove dirt from a kurti with thread embroidery. You don’t need to wash it. Washing just makes the fabric soft and over time causes the fabric to fade away. A very easy way to deal with the dust stuck between thread embroidery is to use a vacuum cleaner and suck the dirt out of it. This way, you don’t have to wash the kurti everytime it gets dirty. Pushing the wash date of the kurti also helps to keep the kurti in the perfect shape for a long time.

2. COLOR TRANSFER TEST: Thread embroidered kurtis tend to leave color after their wash which stains the rest of the kurti. This happens especially when the threads are of low quality. So, whenever you get a new kurti, make sure to perform the color transfer test on it. The test is very simple. Just take a wet piece of cloth and pat it on the embroidered part. If the wet cloth picks the colors from the thread, this basically means that you shouldn’t wash the kurti. Washing this kurti with other clothes is also a big no-no as it would stain other clothes as well. If the kurti fails the color transfer test, give it to the dry cleaner.

3. HOW TO CLEAN: You can go for hand wash, dry cleaning, or machine wash. Once you have performed the color transfer test on the thread embroidered kurti, you will have a clear idea on which washing method to go for. If the kurti has zari embroidery, go for dry cleaning. If you think that the thread embroidery is strong enough to withstand the vigorous washing process of the

washing machine, you can go for a washing machine. However, hand washing is the best way to wash an embroidered kurti. Just dip the kurti in detergent for 10 – 20 minutes and then gently rinse it with cold water. Don’t wring it, just hang it and let it dry.

4. DON’T IRON ON THE EMBROIDERY: This is a big no-no. Ironing on the embroidery can cause the thread to burn. The proper way to iron an embroidered kurti is from the backside. This eliminates the wrinkles without any damage to the embroidery. You can iron the front as well but make sure you don’t iron on the embroidered region. Cover up embroidery with 1 – 2 layers of cloth before ironing from the front.

5. CUT THE LOOSE THREADS: Cut the loose thread right when you see it. Letting them be may destroy the rest of the embroidery. If you wear jewelry, then these loose ends become even more dangerous. Cut them off to maintain the beauty of the embroidery for a long period of time.
