Le Nord, avec ses eaux vives et ses forêts opulentes, le Sud, sec et lumineux, où l’océan bordé de sable ou de mangrove, constellé d’îlets et de hauts-fonds, joue avec les verts turquoise ou véronèse, sur sa palette de couleurs.
The north, with its vibrant waters and opulent forests, the south is dry and full of light ; where the ocean meets the sand or the mangrove wetlands, a constellation of small islands juxtaposed against a deep sea of green, turquoise or bottle green on this colourful palette. On the other side of the island, the tranquil Caribbean lays, fringed by sand or cliffs dotted with coastal villages, opening up to one of the world’s most beautiful bays : Fort-de-France, a member of the ”Most Beautiful Bays in the World” club since 2011.
La tranquille Caraïbe, ourlée de sable ou de falaises, parsemée de villages côtiers, ouvre sur le monde une de ses plus belles baies : celle de Fort-de-France qui depuis 2011 fait partie du club des plus belles baies du monde. L’exubérante nature tropicale explose dès les hauteurs de Balata. Domestiquée au « Jardin de Balata », qui rassemble une exceptionnelle collection d’espèces végétales et florales, la route de la Trace serpente ensuite en sous-bois, entre les mornes, où s’entremêlent balisiers, fougères arborescentes, bambous aux longues hampes, lianes immenses, troncs géants recouverts d’orchidées sauvages, jusqu’au tunnel, d’où part l’une des plus belles randonnées pédestres : « La trace des Jésuites », ancienne sente (petit sentier) des Pères, amenant à la rivière Lorrain à travers les bois. Du Morne Rouge, brûlé par une éruption le 30 Août 1902, on peut gravir la Montagne Pelée, découvrant au sommet un panorama unique, visiter le « Domaine d’émeraude » ou s’initier aux secrets du volcanisme à la « Maison du Volcan ».

The natural exuberance of tropical nature explodes on the Balata heights. Domesticated within the Balata Gardens (Jardin de Balata), an exceptional collection of plant species is brought together. The serpentine ”La Trace” road curves through a lush, hilly forest covered with canna flowers, tree ferns, long-stemmed bamboo, immense lianas, and giant tree-trunks decorated with wild orchids. The road leads to a tunnel where one of the most beautiful hiking trails is found, the ”Trace des Jésuites”, a former path taken by Jesuit priests who walked through the woods to the Lorrain river. From the village of Morne Rouge at the foot of Mount Pelée Volcano, which destroyed the town on August 30, 1902, there is a path to the summit : find a breathtaking view, visit the Emerald Gardens (Domaine d’émeraude), or uncover the secrets of volcanism at the Volcano Museum (Maison du Volcan).
