The legal Notice of Filing for the City of La Plata (on pages 4C and 5C) was submitted via email on time and intended to run last week, December 3, but was omitted in error. The Macon County Home Press takes full responsibility for this omission. We sincerely apologize for our mistake.

Segs4Vets

During the Holiday Season we take the time to recognize our blessings and celebrate and acknowledge all those that makes those blessings possible. What more could anyone person give then the blessing of Liberty. Let those of us that sleep each night under the blanket of freedom they provide give back to those men and women that have given the ultimate gift. This Fall, stop in at the Lobby at Macon Atlanta State Bank and the Offices of the Macon County Home Press in Macon at 115 N Rubey St and our office in downtown La Plata and donate to Segs4Vets. Our goal is to raise enough money to purchase a Segway personal transporter for one of our wounded hero’s. Each week we will display our progress to our ultimate goal of $10,000 dollars to purchase a Segway through Segs4Vets. Thank you and God Bless America.

One Easy Decision On “Make Up Your Mind Day” By Melani Kelsey Social Security Operations Supervisor in Kirksville, Missouri

On December 31, the nation celebrates National Make Up Your Mind Day. The timing is perfect to coincide with those pesky New Year’s resolutions. Some decisions are big and you might need time to plan before you make up your mind. Other decisions are small, but they matter all the same. You might say to yourself, “Someday… I’ll dust behind the television. But getting back there is a pain and have you seen the spaghetti of power cords?” You might say to yourself, “Someday… I’ll stop eating that one cookie a day. Someday… someday…” But that one cookie a day could save you more than a thousand calories a week—depending on the cookie. That could potentially allow you to lose a pound of body weight a month. But hey, cookies are good. And it’s the holidays, so everyone you visit is offering up fresh-baked cookies! We all have our own personal somedays. Just out of reach. Just over the horizon. But you don’t have to wait for someday to plan for your retirement or make up your mind to sign up for your own personal my Social Security account. Planning for your retirement is one of the most important things you will do in your life and we’ve made that decision as easy as pie. (That’s something else you may want to give

up someday!) Put the cookie—or piece of pie—aside and go to www. socialsecurity.gov/myaccount to create your personal account. It only takes a few minutes. Once you’ve made that decision, life gets a little easier. It really does. When signing up for my Social Security, you can see whether you’ve earned enough credits to apply for Social Security benefits and verify that your earnings history is correct. It’s very important that you verify your earnings, because we base your future Social Security retirement benefits on your lifetime earnings. You can also estimate how much money you will receive when you start collecting cash benefits. If you’re already receiving Social Security, you can instantly get a benefit verification letter when you need it. Most importantly, you can relax because you will have the ability to securely control, plan, and manage your receipt of Social Security benefits throughout your life. If you have friends or family who have a hard time making up their minds, giving them the gift of security is a great present. Let them know how easy it is to sign up for my Social Security. Over the holidays, in between watching A Christmas Story and passing the dessert tray, grab your electronic device and huddle around the hearth. Now that you’ve created a my Social Security account at www. socialsecurity.gov/myaccount, why don’t you treat yourself to that cookie…or piece of pie? We won’t tell anyone.

Operation Christmas Cookie 2014 Every year Macon Health Care Center puts together Operation Christmas Cookie. This project sends Christmas cookies to all the service men and women who are stationed overseas. Every year our staff, community, volunteers and schools help make this a success. Without the help of our community this project would not be as successful as it has been the past years. This year we shipped out over 5000 cookies to our soldiers! We had huge help from the Macon High School culinary arts class, which is taught by Mrs. Maria smith. Her class made 4,078 cookies! We also need to thank Mrs. Rochelle shoemaker and her business class for helping with the labels to go on the boxes and also to Beverly at the VoTech for helping! All of you have made a huge difference in our soldiers Christmas. They will get to enjoy homemade Christmas cookies during the holidays. Many of these cookies will bring back memories of past holidays spent back in the states with their families. Again, we thank you! I can’t forget two special people here at Macon health care center who got all 5000 cookies to the post office and shipped off to our soldiers...... big thanks to Beth watts and Penny Danner for spending hours at the post office making sure the cookies are in route to their Christmas destination!
