 A GIS-EIP MODEL FOR A MECHANIC INDUSTRIAL ZONE

SITE SELECTION IN AL-MAFRAQ CITY, JORDAN

Due to the lack of adequate infrastructure and management, the current busy mechanic industrial zone (MIZ) in the Mafraq City, Jordan is causing several negative effects on its surroundings, including a daily traffic congestion; visual-, air-, and noise pollution; and land-value degradation. The objective of the study presented in this paper is to integrate ecoindustrial park principles (EIPs) into multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) and geographic information systems (GIS) for the selection a new MIZ site in Mafraq.

• Developing the GIS-EIP Model

• Identifying the Potential Locations for the New MIZ Site

Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) principles will come as a welcome addition to the city that is suffocating from its own population and industries. The implementation of EIP would involve a selection of a part of the city to be designed as an eco-industrial park, which can sustain multiple activities. The site is selected through multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) through the involvement of strategic stakeholders of the city, including the government, residents, and industry owners. The EIP professionals would also use geographic information systems (GIS) to establish the site’s viability for the industrial park. The aspects that will be considered will include accessibility, the possibility of developing recreational institutions, the terrain, and utility networks. A suitability analysis conducted in Al- Mafraq city, shows that several viable areas in the city can accommodate an Eco Industrial Park (EIP). These conclusions have been made based on the study results, which took into consideration the requirements for the site of EIP.

Based on AHP method – Strategic Environmental assessment (SEA) for Urban Green Infrastructure planning (UGIP) – Case

of Russeifa.

The main objective of this study is to create a green infrastructure strategic plan, through the concept of environmental strategic assessment in order to achieve sustainable development. This will be through developing framework to evaluate the UGIP systems used in Russeifa to achieve a potential green infrastructure plan for the municipality. This city suffers from a weakness in the executive plan of the infrastructure and weakness in the decision-making, which should be based on priorities in a sound and deliberate plan based on the evaluating of experts and the residents of the same region. Many programs allow the possibility to make an assessment for the plans according to the priorities. One of the most famous systems for evaluating is AHP; we have chosen this methodology because it is suitable for our study ad allows us to make future assessment using the weights on the resulted framework of many alternatives and variables. This can be used later and based on the evaluation of previous studies, data, and expert choices to disassemble into parts to facilitate the process of Evaluate and get very accurate results based on selected characteristics. Through using AHP methodology to assess and rate the green infrastructure alternatives in this region in terms of the dimensions through which Green infrastructure systems are being produced and according to the local context of Russeifa. On other hand, to integrate strategic environmental assessment SEA into Urban Green infrastructure planning and to achieve a strategic green infrastructure planning framework in order to manage and organize the infrastructure environmental plans through considering principles of UGIP. AHP structure model is built on decomposing the decision problem into levels; it also considered a successful tool to produce a logical solution for decisionmaking. In addition, criteria weights could be produced using pairwise comparisons, which is a reasonable way to judge.

ECO-TOURISM PARK AS A TOOL FOR TOWN BRANDING Research work- Team member

There are ways and strategies to build the brand cities, indicating that the promotion of the brand is through several tools and means can be used. There is also a strong relationship between the brand of the city and its identity, values , and characteristics that characterize it. The brand builds on the city's strengths and the elements in the city, it is a long-term process and investment in the future.

The question that should be asked: How do we market a city and build its image and manage its reputation? What are the most appropriate strategies to achieve this? What relevant bodies should be involved in such a process?

This paper discusses the nature reserves is one of the most important strategies to build a brand for the study area and considers eco-tourism one of the most important activities allowed in the strategy of nature reserves, with a focus on the practice of creative tourism and entertainment without compromising the quality of the environment or influence. Thus, in this study, will be the focus on what is the potential/appropriate eco-tourism as a tool for the city brand in the AlMughyyir? In addition to knowing what is the appropriate location to be an eco-tourism park?

The paper relied on building an appropriate model using the ArcGIS Spatial Analyst extension tools, which find suitable locations for an eco-tourism park inAl-Mughyyir.

Methodology

A suitability model is a model that weights locations relative to each other based on given criteria. Suitability models might aid in finding a favorable location for a new facility, and road overlay analysis is a common method for creating a suitability model which involves using GIS techniques. There are seven general steps required to create an acceptable suitability model:

•Define the problem

•Break the problem into submodules

•Determine significant layers

•Reclassify or transform the data within a layer

•Weight the input layers

•Add or combine the layers

•Analyze

Amman city profile: The economic part – input out put

analysis Leontief equation

Amman’s economy is hard to separate from Jordan as a whole, especially when analysing the activities and using input-output tables, which might be the reason that it has the greatest share and considering Jordan as a small area country that is connected in its economic activities, as well as the transaction in between. Thus, a percentage of share in the establishment numbers in Amman for these activities will help determine the percentage of each activity involved in Amman, giving a chance to connect any conducted number in this research to Amman. Table 1 explains the percentage of each activity establishment share in Amman which was according to the DOS.
