Student-athletes are attracted to Carolina because of what our University represents – the opportunity to enjoy a collegiate experience athletically, academically and socially that will impact them for the rest of their lives.
You give the opportunity for the best student-athletes to attend the best university, compete in the best facilities, and play for the best coaches at the highest level of competition in all 28 of our varsity sports.
Rams Club members champion these student-athletes by providing the opportunity to meet immediate needs and securing the future of Carolina Athletics.
Carolina has long prided itself on offering a broad-based program that focuses on maximizing opportunities for outstanding young men and women to be a part of the Carolina Family. The challenges in keeping that commitment are significant but can be met with the help of all Carolina fans through Rams Club membership.
Scholarships are the foundation of the Carolina student-athlete experience. The Scholarship Endowment helps ensure our coaches have the ability to bring the best student-athletes in the country to Chapel Hill. Gifts to this endowment provide aspiring student-athletes from every background the opportunity to receive a UNC education and fulfill their dream of competing in Carolina blue.
Sports Operating Endowments allow donors to help individual teams achieve the flexibility and autonomy they need to compete at the highest level in their sport. Team support also encompasses “friends” accounts for all 28 sports along with the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy.
A top-level student-athlete experience calls for facilities which allow our studentathletes to train and develop to the best of their abilities. New and upgraded facilities are a crucial part of recruiting for coaches. Seven projects currently have active fundraising campaigns, and thanks to the support of Rams Club members over the past eight years, we have impacted 22 of our 28 athletic programs with facility upgrades.
The Educational Foundation Scholarship Endowment is the lifeblood of Carolina Athletics. Donors to the Scholarship Endowment provide critical, long-term support for Carolina’s athletic scholarship program. Scholarship donors give the opportunity for approximately 550 gifted student-athletes annually to gain a world-class education while competing for one of the nation’s top athletics programs.
Donors to the Scholarship Endowment can name a new scholarship (or honor someone of their choice) or add to an existing scholarship.
“Being a Tar Heel and continuing to build the Carolina legacy is an honor. I am so appreciative of our coaching staff for believing in me and giving me the chance to represent our University. Thank you to the Rams Club members who provide the opportunity to earn a scholarship and train in new facilities. I love this place and am proud to be part of this Carolina Family .”
-DRAKE MAYE FOOTBALL
Every Carolina fan can be a part of providing athletic and educational opportunities to student-athletes.
As a part of The Rams Club, every member helps Carolina Athletics meet its most pressing needs. A broad-based annual membership program is imperative to the future of Carolina Athletics. Whether you give $100 or $50,000 annually, we need you to be a part of our effort to ensure the success of our 28-team program and the opportunities it provides to Tar Heel student-athletes.
Donors to the Annual Fund have an immediate impact on Carolina student-athletes with their gifts, sustaining the athletics scholarship program and meeting many other critical needs of Carolina Athletics today.
Gifts to the Annual Fund bolster the annual yield, which helps offset the rapid increase in scholarship costs and ensures the viability of our broad-based, 28-team athletic program - a hallmark of Carolina’s athletic identity.
Team support encompasses gifts to any of Carolina’s team operating endowments, “friends” accounts and the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy.
Each sports program at Carolina has its own operating endowment. The annual yield from these endowments is made available to the coach to help meet specific needs not covered in the regular operating budget. Individual sport operating endowments allow donors to help their favorite teams make short-term program enhancements, while also securing the future success of each program.
Team support also includes gifts to “friends” accounts, which provide an immediate increase to coaches’ operating budgets to use at their discretion. Lastly, team support includes gifts to the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy, which develops, challenges and supports student-athletes, coaches and staff in their quest to become world-class leaders in athletics, academics and life.
The unique opportunity exists to recognize and celebrate your passion for Carolina as well as the coaching legends who have led Tar Heel sports programs to national prominence. The impact of a head coach endowment will be felt daily in the program – contributing to ongoing operations and ensuring our student-athletes benefit from the highest levels of academic support, leadership training, and best practices in fitness, nutrition, and wellness.
For all of their successes, only one Carolina program has ever been supported at this level. A head coach endowment will truly set the selected program apart by ensuring our coaches’ legacies of excellence continue far into the future.
With opportunities starting at $3M, this generous investment of endowing a head coach position would honor you and your family and give the selected program’s coach and their successors the resources to provide the ultimate collegiate experience for Tar Heel student-athletes.
Some of Carolina’s most storied programs look to take the next step in pursuit of championships with updated facilities. Rams Club members play a pivotal role in providing Carolina’s world-class student-athletes with top-tier facilities to prepare, compete, and represent Carolina.
Carolina Athletics and The Rams Club are undergoing important facility projects that directly impact many of Carolina’s 28 sport programs. Current projects under construction include renovations to Carmichael Arena, Finley Golf Course, Kenan Football Center, and a brand-new outdoor Tennis Center.
In addition to these active construction sites, many facility projects have been completed in recent years, including:

Rams Club members participate in a variety of ways, including as annual members and through special gifts to a project or campaign. How they make that gift can vary as well – and several options exist for making a gift of great impact for the student-athletes and ease for the donor.
Existing members can login to their account at any time to make secure gifts, check account status, update contact information, make a new pledge or access their GoHeels ticket account. New members may also join online.
You may make a pledge over five years for any gift (excluding Annual Fund memberships) of $1,000 or more.
Existing and new members can make a gift by check. All checks should be made to The Educational Foundation, Inc., indicate what the gift should be applied to, and mailed to The Rams Club office.
Enjoy the ease of making your gift in monthly installments or at the same time each year by setting up a bank account or credit card draft. Setting up a draft ensures your account will always stay active and never lapse accidentally.
You can make your gift in support of student-athletes through payroll deduction direct from your employer. For more information or to set up this gift, please call The Rams Club offices at 919.843.2000.
Estate/Planned gifts are a great way to make a gift in support of student-athletes that lasts beyond your lifetime. More information on planned gifts is to the right.
You can make a gift by donating stock or making a direct wire transfer. To learn how, please contact Jason Steinberg at 919.843.6440 or jason@ramsclub.com.
Some employers will match the charitable gifts of their employees. To find out if your employer will match gifts to The Rams Club, please contact your employer’s human resources department.
You can create your own Carolina Athletics legacy through a planned gift – and ensure that your support of Tar Heel student-athletes continues beyond your own lifetime. Your gift can impact student-athletes for generations to come and may also provide you with tax benefits today and in your estate while providing great benefits to you and your family.
Several types of planned gifts that can benefit you and Tar Heel student-athletes are listed below, and more options may be available depending on your interests and financial goals. Carolina boasts one of the greatest women’s athletics programs in the nation. Built by pioneers like Mia Hamm, Heather O’Reilly, Shalane Flanagan, Courtney Bumpers, Anson Dorrance, Jenny Levy, Karen Shelton, and Beth Miller, Carolina Women’s Athletics has established a legacy of success that embodies the essence of what it means to be a Tar Heel. These women demonstrated dedication, ambition and toughness during their time in competition, and also committed their life’s work to making an impact on their community far beyond their playing years.
As we look to chart a course for the next generation of Tar Heel women, you can support them through FORevHER Tar Heels - an initiative that looks to build and inspire a Carolina community that champions and empowers our women student-athletes.
FORevHER Tar Heels offers donors a chance not only to provide opportunities through scholarship, facilities and team operational support, but also through woman-to-woman mentorship and enhanced career networking.
With a goal of supporting current and future women student-athletes, The Rams Club offers three areas of focus which will directly impact women’s teams at Carolina:
The rich history of Carolina women’s athletics boasts 43 national championships, 42 individual national champions and numerous conference championships. Perhaps even more impressive than this, is the inspiring collection of career paths forged by our women student-athlete alumnae. From doctors to CEOs to teachers (and yes, professional athletes), Carolina women have demonstrated time and again that their accomplishments in competition are just the beginning of their impact on the world.
The Rams Club and Carolina Athletics aims to engage and activate a network of Tar Heels that will:
• Offer opportunities to outstanding young women student-athletes to be part of the Carolina Family.
• Provide resources for Carolina’s women’s sport programs to ensure success.
• Participate in the development of student-athlete leaders who will impact their communities.
This collaborative effort not only enhances the Carolina student-athlete experience, but also allows alumnae and Rams Club members to invest their talents and resources in some of the most formative years of these women’s lives.
For student-athletes and coaches:
• Our women student-athletes have the opportunity to be mentored by successful alumnae and women members of The Rams Club.
• This initiative provides resources to enhance our career networking program and events.
• FORevHER Tar Heels adds to our coaches’ arsenal of recruiting tools - a powerful network of women Tar Heels supporting each other!
For donors and alumnae:
• Our most supportive donors to and alumnae of our women’s sport programs have the opportunity to develop personal connections with our student-athletes so they can see their impact in action.
• This initiative provides an opportunity for donors to directly participate in the development of our women student-athletes.
For Carolina Athletics and The Rams Club:
• FORevHER Tar Heels provides new funds and support for women’s athletics at Carolina, including scholarship, capital projects, team operational support, leadership development and career networking.
• Ultimately, this initiative enhances the overall female student-athlete experience at Carolina!
“RAMS CLUB MEMBERS ARE THE TEAM COMMITTED TO PROVIDING THE RESOURCES FOR STUDENT-ATHLETES TO COMPETE FOR CHAMPIONSHIPS AND GRADUATE FROM THIS GREAT UNIVERSITY, AND FOR CAROLINA TO CONTINUE ITS TRADITION OF EXCELLENCE.”
While I have expressed my preference to support the capital project(s) indicated above, I understand that there may be facility expenditures required for projects other than those indicated above and therefore I authorize The Rams Club to use my gift where it is most needed.
