Capital markets in Turkey have a longstanding foundation extending over Ottoman Empire government bonds, where the legal framework has the history of 40 years. Capital markets in Turkey is mainly governed by the Turkish Capital Market Law, and the detailed communiqués of the Capital Markets Board of Turkey, the regulatory body. While there are number of provisions for joint stock companies in the Turkish Commercial Code, the Turkish Capital Market Law regulates bare areas for public companies, aside from introducing many exceptions for listed ones. The Turkish Capital Market Law also regulates every kind of securities to be issued, and the stock exchanges where these to be traded on. This document is intended to take a brief look at the cornerstones of the Turkish Capital Markets Scheme from a legal standpoint, and summarize the developments took place in the year of 2017 with the numbers.
