Craft Documentation is a research based module at NID, which enables us to understand the traditional craft culture of India. This document was done In association with NEDFi. With the traditional handicraft sector facing a major threat, NEDFi took up the challenge of identifying an alternative raw material to replace cane and bamboo. This resulted in identifying water hyacinth as a possible raw material. This documentation was done after a through field study at Assam, Khetri village, interacting with the local artisans who are practicing the craft and understanding the whole process of how the fibre is extracted till how the products are made.
