WINTER 2009 | ANNUAL REPORT 2008
FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT During the recent holiday season there was particular emphasis on the notion of giving. And I believe that nowhere is that concept more evident than at Ramapo College. Yet, instead of one “season of giving” occurring in December, Ramapo benefits from the generosity of our constituents all year round. In the pages that follow, you will find remarkable stories that epitomize the giving that makes a tangible difference in the lives of our students and of those in the surrounding community. As President, I am grateful that we have not only these inspirational stories to tell, but countless others that continue to strengthen our vision for Ramapo. As we reflect on 2008, I offer my profound thanks to all those who support Ramapo College during difficult economic times. Of course, as we enter 2009, the financial challenges and uncertainties facing New Jersey and the nation will affect us all. In these turbulent times, it is imperative that the Friends of Ramapo, the faculty, staff, students, alumni and community partners promote the value of a Ramapo liberal arts education. Many of our students make great sacrifices to be here and, together with the senior administration under the guidance of the Board of Trustees and with the support of the Foundation, we will prudently and strategically allocate resources that allow us to not only sustain the value of a Ramapo degree but to enhance it. PETER P. MERCER, Ph.D.
President, Ramapo College of New Jersey
As we enter this New Year, which marks the College’s 40th anniversary, let us continue to work together to further our strategic goals of enhancing academic excellence, investing in the future and enriching college life and community presence.
