Under graduate Design Studio Category : Mixed use Complex SEMESTER 6 6

Brief : The brief is to design a Multi-Storied Residential cum Commercial Complex with modern concept, technology & facilities.It should also act as an “Urban Center” of the locality catering to the needs of all age group.The area programming includes commercial outlets,offices and residential - 3BHK,Duplex,Studio apartments.

Site Area - 11,000 sq.m

Concept : This building is designed keeping in mind to differentiate the whole residential complex and commercial complex yet creating the mix of both in a single structure.Also it is designed in such a way to stand out among all the other buildings and eye-catchy.

A Solid block of mass.

The mass is then divided into residential and commercial by providing a recession.Also that recession can act as a walking space for residential people and green spaces.

The residential block then is divided into different units and the areas between every units are recessed in order to give it a good form.

Sixth floor This is typical floor plan 02.

This floor consists of all the housing units.

There is a sevice floor above the offices floor and an amenities floor on top of it whic includes tot-lots,gyms and function halls.

Offices

First floor This floor also consists of retail stores.

Ground floor This floor mainly consists of office and residential lobbies on the backside and retail stores on the front side.

Surface parking is provided and everything is paved.

The Building is situated at the junction of two busiest roads of kolkata i.e,The loudon street and shakespeare sarani road.

The building is designed in such a way that commercial facade gets the most frontage towards the loudon street as the site is oriented that way.They get to advertise and gather the footfall.

The site is provided with four entries and exits.

The offices entry and exit is given on the shakespeare sarani road and the residential entrances are given on the moira street.The commercial entry and exits are given on the shakespeare sarani road.

The offices are given on the third floor and there is a service floor above it.

The building is provided with 5 fire exits covering the entire building,4 towards the corners and one in the center.

There are 2 commercial cores,one office core and 2 residential cores.

The service floor acts as a refugee floor in case of any fire accidents.

Under graduate Design Studio Category : Interpretation Center SEMESTER 5 16

Brief : The brief is to understand the heritage context of our city we live in i.e. Guntur and design an interpretation center depicting the main highlights of the heritage monuments or buildings in and around.The area programming mainly includes permanent and temporary exhibition centers,workshop studios,crafts bazaars,Food courts,a library,an open air theatre and public toilets.

Site Area - 10,000 sq.m Guntur mainly depicts the heritage of Buddhism and hence the main research is done on the Amaravathi Stupa,Undavalli caves,the Guntupalli caves and the Kondaveedu fort.

Concept: The whole concept of this interpretation center is taken from the Amaravathi stupas.

It is designed in such a way so when a person enters he has three ways to go.If he directly wants to go to the permanent exhibition center,he has the exhibition center infront of him.Or If he wants to know the details he has the reception on the left side and if he wants to do shopping,he has the shopping complexes to his right side.

The permanent exhibition center takes inferences from the Amaravathi stupa whereas the library takes its details from the stupas ate the Guntupalli caves.

Open Air Theatre The open air theater is designed towards the sou pretation center.

The stairs are the seating and it also has a small center for the access.

The stage is recessed into the earth and it also h either side of the stage for both men and women The stage took inspiration from the mandapa at and is framed with concrete pillars.

Food courts are provided towards the corner of the side and open air seating is given.

There are 8 food stalls in the built form and it also contains an interior seating.

Workshop Studios There are two workshop studios.

One of them consists of a open classroom and a mini theatre and the other one consists of a temporary exhibition space ,an office and a conference room.

Toilets A total of five toilet units are spread all over the interpretation center.

Each toilet unit consists of both male and female washrooms which could cater the needs of the users all over the interpretation center.

Library The library is placed to the corner and is isolated as I think library is a studious place and only chosen by few.

The library is provided with a tree cover to minimize the noise from the open air Theatre.

The library is also a G+1 structure.There are steps on either side through which you can access the children’s floor.

Souvenir shop The Souvenir shop is placed just infront of the library as it will have many meaningful users.

Crafts Bazaar The shopping complex is arranged in such a way that it gets maximum users.

The entrance and exit are placed side by side to each other.

So when a person enter the center,the first to catch his eye are the shopping complex and also they are the last to catch the eye when the person is leaving.

Permanent Exhibition Center The main Exhibition center is placed in the center and the main concept is incorporated from the stupa.

The Exhibition center has entrances from four sides.

The concept here is that a person can go to any corner or any place at any point of time.

The Exhibition Center is divided into four quarters with podiums all around.There are staircases in two quarters whic lead to the first floor in which a small mini theatre is present.

The other two quarters consistes of screens on which motion pictures are played.

The external path in the center has incriptions and timeline all along the curved walls for people to see.

Architectural elements imported from the Buddhist Heritage sites.

- These elements are taken Undavalli caves and are used in the design for stalls of the crafts bazaar.

- Roofing from undavalli caves.This common kind of flat roofing is given to all the structures to create uniformity.

The main concept of studio house is privacy.the house is designed and divided in such a way that it does not disturb the privacy of the architect.The living room is the center which divides his personal space and workspace.The workspace can be accessed by two paths depending upon his different moods.

He can either directly go from the bedroom, catch a cup of coffee from the kitchen and enter the workspace or he can go via the living room and his office space to his workspace.The clients/guests can wait in the living room or wait in the office space.

The Box VIJAYAWADA,INDIA

Under graduate Design Studio Category : APSEEDCO Competition SEMESTER 5 32

Client : APSEEDCO (Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation).

The brief was to design a retail outlet cum kiosk center which can spread awareness about energy efficient electric products.It is an initiative by Andhra Pradesh state energy efficiency development Corporation.The design is more of a semi public light weight structure.

The module can be dismantled and re-assembled anywhere which makes it portable.

The idea is to attract the users by placing the L-shaped container at a certain angle in order to draw the attention of the passerbyes.

Display field Digital display on panels that educate about the product, display of the actual product, display of lights, making customer involve in an activity where the effectiveness of the lighting product can be shown, television display.

The interior layout is provided with proper circulation.The steps at the entrance can also be used for advertising/marketing purposes.

The units are displayed on the panels with cove lighting and contrasting colours around.

Along with the units, there is a provision of individual screen display for the beter understanding about the product.

Colours used for the module are yellow and grey.

YELLOW is inviting and can provides open atmosphere and GREY provides neutrality and balance.
