6 The GIS-based Master Plan Formulation Scheme is to be taken up as a centrally funded reform for 500 AMRUT cities by Ministry for Urban Development, to be implemented by State Governments. Haridwar is district of Uttarakhand, India.Population of haridwar 3,10,796 as per census 2011. Haridwar city center is highly congested and city has started growing towards the northwest industrial area. The major activities nodes are the Hari ki Pauri, SIDCUL area, new market area, Jwalapur, BHEL township.

Vision - The Vision for Haridwar City is to provide Safe, Efficient and Environmentally Sustainable means of Transportation Systems for Improved Mobility and Accessibility of People.

KEY CHALLENGES • Absence of road hierarchy and most of the internal city roads are 1-2 lanes.

• Lack of pedestrian friendly environment while The City has a high share of pedestrians.

• Ineffective traffic control and management measures and on-street parking reducing road capacity thereby causing traffic congestion.

• Har ki paudi have heavy pedestrian traffic due to pilgrims from various parts of the country.

• Lack of public transport system in the city.Road Infrastructure & geometry of road and junctions are not adequate and safety Issues are major concern.

OBJECTIVE • Ensure safety and mobility of pedestrians and cyclists by designing streets, junctions, network and areas that make a more desirable, livable city for residents and visitors and support the public transport system.

• Develop public transit system in conformity with the land use that is accessible, efficient and effective which also help to reduce the parking demand.

• Identify the minor, major and economic nodes. Identify the urban mobility corridor to connect the nodes.

• Promote mixed use development and super block street model to encourage short and safe trips. Haridwar Master plan - 2025 Decongest the central core of the city industral activities shifted to SIDCUL and Bahadarabad area.

PROPOSAL 1. Proposed RRTS connecting haridwar with Meerut via Muzaffarnagar and Roorkee and further connected to Delhi and Alwar.

2. Integrated multi-modal transport system-A new expressways or road link should be planned between Dehradun and Haridwar with access to Jolly Grant Airport.

Railway should connected with jolly grant airport and act as a multi modal transportation system.

3. Metro -Metro as well as Personal rapid transportation was approved by unified metropolitan transportation authority in Haridwar.Last mile connectivity is required to induce shift from private to public vehicles.

The new bus terminal is proposed nearby har ki pauri on NH 334 having area of 6 hectare. This bus terminal will also cater to local buses with their designated routes for intracity circulation. Bus circulation for this terminal will work on anti clock wise direction, so that buses will follow NH 334, NH 33 and intra city bus route of haridwar after exiting from the bus terminal. It will also accommodate vehicular parking, and auto rickshaw/ E rickshaw stand with pick up and drop off areas.

The City Centre — Sector 17, which is also known as the heart of City Beautiful. Holistic rejuvenation Planning of Sector 17, within the context of the masterplan for Chandigarh by Le Corbusier. Sector 17 market is spread over 250 acres and consists of three large plazas and covered by retail and institutional buildings.

The vision was to retain the original principles behind Corbusier’s masterplan while adapting the space to cater for the current needs of the people of Chandigarh. Concept of Sector 17 was planned as a pedestrian paradise of seamlessly interlinked spaces of varying scales. This project was a complete holistic approach to development which consist of urban planning, urban design, mobility planning, conservation, landscaping and tender process etc. The design implementation will be in 3 phases which includes upgrading and reusage of existing buidlings, retrofitings,connectivity, mobility planning , plaza development and new development proposal .

16 Nehru Place today was originally called Kalkaji Complex. It was the biggest of all the 15 District Centres proposed in the 1962 master plan of Delhi. Planned by Delhi Development Authority to decentralise delhi comercial activity from chandni chowk and connaught place. The 38-hectare site was built and located in the southern zone connected with outer ring road and existing metro route,1,30,000 daily visitors, 32,500 cars and two wheelers (daily) .It became an active commercial, financial and business centre in early 1980’ Nehru Place- Place making project summarizes the urban analysis, derived broad area interventions and draft master plan for urban regeneration of the Nehru Place District centre and its surrounding area. Also, the possibility of interventions in parking, land use, redevelopment and operation and management of public area have been proposed. Study on cummunity design for traffic safety, Safe Streets for Agra

Sustainable transport needs inclusive streets. Inclusive streets ensure not only safe mobility, reduced risks of traffic crashes but also reduced street crimes, better social cohesion, and makes public transport, bicycling and walking attractive and the preferred choice for commuting. The approach should be people-centric and not car-centric. Design of inclusive streets gives a safe environment to all age groups. They segregate the population from high speeds and prevent injuries. Safe streets do not discriminate against elderly persons and the people with disabilities.

19 The objective of this design exercise is to integrate the upcoming metro stations into the existing ecosystem of transport modes in the city. Such Inter-modal integration involves designing the approaches and entry/exit points at the stations in such a way that users of various modes can access the metro with ease.Access and egress trips to the metro can be classified into five classes of modes. Detail design of Accessibly for Metro stations, Hyderabad

Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) Ltd. has taken up the initiative to plan and design for the ease of access to the metro stations by providing inter-modal integration for all users of its upcoming metro network in the city. The current study includes development of design guidelines for accessibility to the stations for the entire metro network and carrying out the detailed design of three case-stations to test their applicability.Three case-stations have been selected for detailed design of access provisions to the metro: JNTU,Khairatabad along Corridor I and Uppal along Corridor III.The stations are geographically spread across Hyderabad.They have inter-modal interchanges with City-Bus, MMTS and Regional Bus terminal.

20 Working out an efficient design with details on safety of non motorized user and pedestrian walkways for 36 km road networking. Raised crossings are proposed to be used to effectively reduce conflicts at junctions and nodes These are achieved by raising the motor vehicle lane to the height of the footpath(150mm higher than the FRL ) so as the design benefits pedestrians and others with special mobility needs (such as needs of people on unhindered while crossing vehicles slow down and yield to them.

Gandhinagar to Chilla The corridor is an arterial road with available ROW ranging between 45m to 60m with speed limit of 50km/hr. here exist a total 6 signalized and 4 grade separated (signal free) junctions. The corridor has a total of 7 Bridges - 1 ROB, 1 one way flyover, 1 two way flyovers and 4 clover-leafs. Average Speed for a Passenger Car during Peak Hour Gandhinagar to Chilla = 31.13 kph.

Design Option 1–Use existing service lanes and available ROW – create at grade intersection along existing flyover.

Design Option 2 – Use existing left turn lanes to provide at grade int. with East-West BRT corridor.

Prioritize Non Motorized and Public Transport over Private Transport modes.Ensure that all areas including transit infrastructure in and around the corridor contribute to a barrier free environment.Re-develop the entire ROW and portions of intersecting roads at intersections.

A average trip length of 14.06 km in Kolkata and variable demand along the corridor, with some short segments of exceptionally high demand, such as the 2.4km stretch between Chingri-Ghata and science city roundabout suggests that most commuters using the corridor only do so for a fraction of their journey.The current bus demand on the corridor varies by 90% along its length, making it financially and operationally unviable to operate a uniform fleet of buses between the ends of the corridor.

Kolkata is also a hub for trading of most industrial business and now also hosts many IT and MNC establishments. The city has an existing fleet of a mix of government and privately operated buses, operating on this corridor and other routes. These buses/routes have varied origin destination points within the city and use different parts of the proposed corridors, overlapping for some stretches.

Comparison of journey lengths (origin to destination, including feeders), over which a closed BRTS system becomes a viable option (in terms of travel time) over a private mode of transport.

26 Problem – Lack of first and last mile connectivity to metro station. Problem identification is based on background study and finalization of the study object with proposal and suggestion. The study is based on primary data and further supplemented by secondary data.

A study aims to investigate the key first and last-mile connectivity influencing sustainable public transport. The approach as an overall conceptual framework and focus specifically on Non-motorized transport as enhancing the first and last-mile connectivity for sustainable transport for the city. The study area is located at Gurgaon, which is at the southern periphery of Delhi. Gurugram is part of NCR and one of the major IT-industry. Gurugram having two Metro rail one is a yellow line by DMRC connected with Delhi and the other is rapid metro

by RMGL serving the Gurgaon area.

The first and last mile connection describes the beginning or end of an individual trip made primarily by public transportation.

Aim - Enhancing the walkability and usage of NMT for first and last mile connectivity to the metro station.

Need - Need a sustainable transportation like metro in urban area because urban development leads to the more number of trips and movement which cause congestion and congestion directly linked to the pollution.

Objective - Identifying the existing situation (infrastructure) and user experience /travel behavior for the last mile connectivity.
