COMPETITION PROJECT
BOAT PEOPLE MEMORIAL DESIGN COMPETITION (Winning Entry) TEAM WORK Duration: 4 weeks This was the winning entry for the competition on Vietnamese boat people memorial wall design. This was a group project and my role was in the design process, material selection 3D modelling and render. The project site was the 17th Ave in Calgary beside the international avenue. The overall form of the space was inspired by the shape of a boat, with organic wave of the south edge emulating the ocean and making room for the seating and planting. All plants selected are extremly hardy and drought tolerant due to high degree of solar exposure and dry conditionsof the site.

BARKMAN CONCRETE DESIGN COMPETITION 2019 (Winning Entry) INDIVIDUAL PROJECT Duration: 4 weeks The obesjective of the project was to use a light weight porous concrete module to design a green hydroponic wall system with beneficial insect habitat. The overall concept was to use the solar and wind tunnel effect. The porous concrete were coloured resembling the historic sandstone and brick structure and also to create a vibrant pedestrian corridor. The concrete module has multiple holes in it which when subject to the extreme wind movement will create a plesant whistling sound. The tank at the bottom stores roof run offs and then uses it to irrigate the hydroponic system.

MAYORS URBAN DESIGN AWARD 2019 (Honourable Mention) INDIVIDUAL PROJECT Rail corridor Duration: 4 weeks The idea of this project was to create a framework leading to a masterplan using historic and existing site conditions. A no. of factors shaped this frame work to create a master plan and focus. The pupose was to design some existing corridors for ease of access to the site and also ease of movement around keeping the edge conditions in mind.

ACTIVATING AN ABANDONED VALLEY WINTER STUDIO 2020 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT Duration: 4 weeks The site is a valley, located in NE Calgary, with the Renfrew Community at the West and the Nose Creek at the East. The valley was formed by glacier flow with clean SIte Location runoff from the slope at the West, running towards the Creek, which once had a meandering shape. This Section AA’ historic Creek shape was first effected by the introduction of the CP railway and then the Deerfoot Trail in 1979 making this and the overall landscape very linear. The two main objectives were to break the linearity of the landscape and reestablish the historical hydrological process. The first strategy to address this challenge was to create East-West visual connectivity and the second was to revisit the existing storm water Bird’s eye view outlets. Instructor: Mary Ellen Tyler

INTEGRATED TRAFFIC CALMING AND STORM WATER MANAGEMENT WINTER STUDIO 2020 INDIVIDUAL PROJECT Duration: 2 weeks This project is from the green infrastructure course. The main idea was to address traffic calming measures and stormwater management on an offset intersection. Safe pedestrian crossings, Storm water runoff, native and pollinator friendly planting and overall visual identity were the key features

HAND DRAWINGS INK AND PENCIL SKETCHES Every design I do involves hand drawing. I start with concept and analytical sketches and carry this throughout my design process. I alway believe the hand-mind coordination is very important in every design projects. I do a lot of ink and pencil sketches and renderings in my projects.

DATA AND MAPPING
I have intermediate skills with GIS. I believe its an important tool for landscape architects and urban designers. I have using GIS to map data and use it to produce site analysis diagrams and site and con text info. Below is a project where I GIS was used for feasibility study for site development in Calgary, Alberta.

DETAILS OF DESIGN
I believe a physical model speaks a lot about the spatial characteristics of a design. In addition to sketches, my design and concept development process includes these models. I also believe it allows me to grow more attention to details. SIte technology: Mega Mound

MACRO AND SCULPTURES DETAILS IN NATURE
Insect macro photography is my hobby. I have been photographing and studying insect and minute details in nature for over 12 years. I make short documentaries on metamorphosis of butterflies and moths. Below are some photographs out of over 300 different species of insects I have identified so far. I also make insect sculptures from recycled and found materials and I believe everything that has a form can be reused.
