“A building can only be understood by moving around and through it, and by experiencing the modulation, and feel the spaces one moves through - from outside into verandah, then rooms, passages, courtyards. Architecture cannot be totally explained but must be experienced.”

architects illustration

based on design philosophy

The graphical representations of famous and relevant designers in the domain of architectural field were illustrated on account to better understand their spatial strategies and use of materials. The illustrations also paved me to idealize their thought processes and design interventions through their famous and awe-striking buildings across the years. These graphical instancing also allowed me to bring about my own design philosophy which has been exemplified and implemented in the architectural works moving forward during my academic years.

The house with a tropical philosophy takes green space as the main core that surrounds the whole house.

predesign design development

The composition of the architectural program around the main patio gives this house freshness and transparency towards that garden, which integrates the exterior with the interior, creating a feeling of “always sharing with nature.”

site design evolution

In contrast to the surrounding urban area, the main aim was to incorprate nature as part of the house .Achieved this by injecting zen concept into the design .In an effort to create a balance between nature and urban landscape a natural barrier was offered as the solution.

A strong emphasis on the natural environment is also demonstrated in the openness between the outdoor area and the indoor. The building mass is designed to enfold the swimming pool ,exposing the space to the swimming pool .The water body influences the micro-climate

2 jatayupara experiencing nature

Jatayu Earth Center, also known as Jatayu Nature Park or Jatayu Rock, is a park and tourism centre at Chadayamangalam in Kollam district of Kerala. According to the epic, Ravana was attempting to abduct Sita to Lanka when Jatayu tried to rescue her. Jatayu fought valiantly with Ravana, but as Jatayu was very old Ravana soon defeated him, clipping his wings. The aim of this project was experiencing the nature through architecture , the travellers should experience the entire story of jatayu during the multisensorial experiencial walk. This is about architecture, not as a frozen expression in time, but as an evolving expression of life. A project with environmental considerations at heart and the stewardship of one of our depleting resources, the forest.

16

concept experience nature

The Ramayana verses were inscribed on the walls , which narrated the story of Jatayu to the travellors this. adventurous trail of 826 steps constructed using 60,000 stones while soaking in the greenness of the environment. Amphitheatre space creates a lively atmosphere we can experience a forest, architecture, and an environment which we have not experienced.

More than a simple walk in contact with the nature, this is an unique experience deeply characterized by a dramatic landscape and an infrastructure that interferes as little as possible with the landscape. Steps which matches the language of forest is provided along with sculptures which gives a narrative of the story of jatayu to the tourists

Amphi-theatre spaces acts as interactive spaces as well as lively atmosphere we can experience a forest, architecture, and an environment

19
Architecture of the Forest deals with the relationship between the spatial and formal structure of the forest and architectural space and form. A Water source has been placed near the hanuman para which helps the travellors to quench the thirst during the journey

Centre for Curated Memories

The site is situated along Calicut Beach Road and measures roughly 1.5 acres. It houses an existing abandoned and dilapidated building.Municipal Office Building) of the colonial era dated roughly from 1860’s. The Department of Tourism has proposed a Centre for Curated Memories at this site, with a vision to celebrate Calicut’s rich culture and history. The workshop encourages each Ateliers to reinterpret the program and offer design approaches that offer a critique to the city’s tangible heritage. The workshop was mentored by Ar.Bijoy Ramachandran, Ar.Biju Kuriakose, Ar.Palinda Kannangara and Ar.Shimul Javeri Kadri.
