STATUS - BUILT

G+3 building consists of 4 floors of banking halls with residential block for the manag ers of this regional HQ. The design for this com petition was an attempt to break away from the traditional Kerala architectural style followed by the bank for all their buildings till now.

Site forces played the major role in the planning of the building as well as the form. Longer sides of the site along East West direction had to be protected as large opening had to be provided for natural lighting of the banking halls. Screens used for windows was inspired from the ‘Nettipattams’ of Kerala.

KOCHI INTERNATIONAL TRADE CENTRE

KOCHI, INDIA

STATUS - CONCEPT

SKYSCRAPER + NEIGHBOUR HOOD, we called it SKYBOURHOOD. The proposed Kochi International trade Centre is a mixed use tower with 100 floors. Inspired from the concept of verticalism, the sky scraper and its retail and commercial base is seen as a microcosm of the city, containing within itself the inherent elements of a city block, i.e. parks, shops, entertainment cen ters, community facilities, museums, exhibi tion centre.

A healthy landscaped environment, with spatial progressions of public open spaces (parks in the sky) to semi-private (entrance courts) to private open spaces (balconies).

The five-storey sky centres have different principal functions - one might in clude a hotel, another a department store. Each is articulated with mezzanines, terraces and gardens to encourage a sense of place.

Open dynamic of permeable boundaries has been enhanced with many transitional areas such as recessed balconies, large skycourts, and open-air atriums- fur ther blurring the distinction between inside and outside space. Living vegetation bol sters the structures in a system of hanging, vertical, or spiraling gardens used for shad ing and filtering. Every floor of the APART MENT in tower features outdoor terraces and multi-story garden atria, fully integrat ing the interior workspace with natural elements of the exterior environment
