ARCHITECTURAL

/MOSQUE OF LIGHT/NUDEs INTERNSHIP

In Islamic architecture, light plays an influential role in designing the interiors of mosques and other buildings. The word nūr, or its derivatives, occurs forty-nine times in the Quran. It is used in reference to God, Prophet Muhammad, the Quran, the Book, the Torah, the moon and the faithful men and women. Al-nur is often used in combination with zulumat (darkness) in terms that describe movement from darkness into light, and from ignorance into faith. The word nūr is also used in eight basic referential meanings; The religion of Islam Faith God’s commandments and moral laws in the Torah and the Gospels The light of day The guiding light that God will give to the faithful on the Day of Resurrection The commandments and injunctions of the Quran Justice [8]The light of the moon. Sura 24 of the Quran contains the Ayat an-Nur, the Verse of Light (Q24:35), which reads, “God is the light of the heavens and the earth; the likeness of His light is as a niche wherein is a kindled from a Blessed Tree, an olive that is neither of the East nor of the West whose oil well-nigh would shine, even if no fire touched it; light upon light. The mosque design explores the duality between light and built form to create a spiritual experience. The multi-layered geometrical form filters the harsh light into the prayer hall. Light bounces off the doubly curved surfaces and filters through the “mashrabiya” apertures based on Islamic geometrical principles. The proposed Iconic “Mosque of Light” is sited strategically at the Dubai Creek Harbour development which is expected to have 48,500 residential units in total, and a population of approximately 175,000 residents. The mosque is designed to hold regular daily prayers as well as Friday and Eid prayers for a population of 7500. The Mosque is placed on axis with the Creek Tower and the Linear park. The Main Prayer Hall is oriented towards the main Qibla wall. The spaces for prayer have been designed on the ground floor as per the design brief for both male (85%) and female (15%) populations. Spill over spaces have been designed both at the ground plaza level and also on the terrace. The terrace can be accessed by the four minarets that hold the geometric composition of the mosque. A geometric module consisting of multi-layered minimal pre-cast surfaces with Islamic geometric patterns filter the harsh and strong sunlight into the prayer hall. In addition to the dramatic display of light being filtered, the multi-layered architectural system also protects the inhabitants from the intense sunlight and provides a cooling environment. The pattern is generated from simple iterative repetition of geometries which are grafted on the ground level to inform the landscape design consisting of water bodies and soft/hard landscape elements. Programmatically the mosque house prayer spaces, ablution, rest rooms, library & Quran teaching rooms, Imam & Muathen quarters, Imam’s office, admin, storage and parking facilities.

/duplex bungalow

Project Year - 2016.

Academic Project - Semester Fourth. Location - Hamirpur Himachal Pradesh. Area - 800 sq m. Programme - Duplex. Concept - Merging the essance of outside to inside and making an interlink between the outside landscaping and nature to inside.

“You employ stone, wood, and concrete, and with these materials you build houses and palaces. That is construction. Ingenuity is at work. But suddenly, you touch my heart, you do me good. I am happy and I say: ‘This is beautiful.’ That is architecture.”

- Charles Correa

Architecture is not ablout making a static build mass to give shelter but also make it interactive so that the user keep discovering new essance of building everyday. The design starts with the different unfold of nature that no one can predict what next is about to come . Hamirpur a town in Himachal pradesh is one of the fewer place in Himachal pradesh from where you can see the horizon that comprises of different topography and climate . This give a chance for one to observe different unfolds of nature everyday . Designing this bungalow so as to feel close to that natural essance every day. Courtyards has been introduced at such interval that from every point in the house you can observe the nature outside.

The interiors consists of few brick walls only in places where we need them to maintain not only a semblance of privacy but to make the interior spacious too. A play with the levels perpetuates the excitementthroughout. This modern duplex is designed in a way thatlights up the southern side of the house with the front side of the house being devoid of any windows and tolet the daylight stream in through, skylights have been provided.

Project Year - 2018.

Academic Project - Semester Eighth. Location - Una Himachal Pradesh. Area - 100 Acre Programme - Indian Institute Of Information Technology. Concept - Challenge in this design was the orchards of kinnu which has to be preserved throughout the design process. Considering this as the design offset the design has evolved around the orchards. Since the orchards was mannually grown it followed a grid of 8x8 m . The IIIT Una was designed alogn the orchards so as to reduce the cutting of trees. This enhances the design by making arrey of courtyards and open spaces within departments which helps in reducing the energy consumption during day time . This also enhances the space of learning as all the classrooms , labs , and offices face to some greenery or open space . Leaving Such spaces also enhances the ventilation and maintained the freshness of environment inside the departments also.

The site selection proposal for IIIT ( Indian Institute of Information Technology ) Una campus has already been sanc with a primary and a secondary entrance. The task is to design an academic campus area for the institute followe needs with an intent to reflect these values of sustainability, inclusiveness and continous learning

ctioned by the Indian government. The site has an enclosure boundary wall for both the two patches along ed up by the site planning of various spaces and areas that carves out careers from social and ecological

Project Year - 2017.

Academic Project - Semester Eighth. Location - Goa. Area - 1800 sq m. Programme - Cafe . Concept-The restaurant has opened with striking and innovatively-designed dinning house. However, the design associates an entirely different mood with the conventional dinning beverages. It consists of 10 multi-color shipping containers, shifted and stacked. Within the containers’ 4000 sqft (371.6 sqm) of space are a variety of intimate and comfortable spaces. The containers on the top floor are elevated with reflective cladding that provokes a sense of containers hung in the clouds. The floors in-between space is also incorporated into the design to maximize the store’s convenience to its customers.

The view show the open planning of lower floor of cafe that provides the freedom to move or sit informally .

IDEA WAS TO MAKE THE BASE FRAME OF THE CONTAINER AS THE PRIMARY FRAMING AND THE ROOF AND FLOOR WAS LEFT AS IT IS THE SIDE PERFORATIOS WAS MADE USING THE CONTAINER MATERIAL ONLY HENCE NOT ADDING ADDITIONAL WEIGHT TO THE STRUCTURE

Project Year - 2017. Academic Project - Semester Seventh. Location - kenya. Area - 1000 sq m . Programme - Pavillion.

SITE APPROACH

THE AIM OF THE DESIGN IS FOR A FREE STANDING PAVILION THAT WOULD ALLOW VISITORS NEW WAYS TO VIEW AND EXPREIENCE THE WILDERNESS AND BE CLOSE TO NATURE .

SO , WE DESIGNED A MONOLITHIC BUILDING = 300 M TALL AND A 100 METERS WIDE . A SUPER RATIONAL STRUCTURE ,IT WOULD BE AN ORGY OF ORTHOGONALITY. THE FACADE WOULD BE FINISHED WITH YELLOW TIMBER ,AND A RATIONAL RISE OF STAIR PLATES IN VARYING SIZES - FROM 06 TO 03 METERS WOULD CREATE AN EVEN MERGING ELEVATION ACROSS THE AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK.
