On Friday, December 23, there is a UV Light Smoke Party with local DJs Dubsonic and Sweep that will see the Yot Club fully pimped out. Saturday, December 24, brings the Kara Gordon Band/ Wreckage to town. Kara is one of New Zealand’s top blues guitarists and his band has drawn comparisons to the mighty Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. As this is Christmas Eve, we will be shutting at midnight. Christmas Day is a Sunday, so our final Sunday Session for the year will be on Boxing Day. Our special guest for the Monday Sunday Session will be Latin Aotearoa, with Bobby Brazuka from Latin Aotearoa DJing afterwards. As always we open at 4.20pm, with entry free until 7pm, and moving inside at 10pm. There will be amazing food available in the yard. The Weird Together Sound System comes to Raglan on December 27. The African beat/percussion heavy outfit was the star of Sound Splash last year so we are very happy to have them. Members Nick D and Dick Johnson will be DJing before and after.

Summer Thieves

December 29 brings Summer Thieves to town. Summer Thieves are one of the country’s top bands and this gig is a warmup for a small national tour with Sticky Fingers. Summer Thieves rate the Yotty as their favourite venue in New Zealand and always bring a crowd so get in early. Super-sick skanking ska always goes down well at The Yotty and as per tradition we have it again for the fourth year running on the eve of New Year’s Eve (December 30). The Acetones are a seven-piece full-power ska outfit from Auckland and will leave you breathless with their blistering originals and a few classy covers. New Year’s Eve sees a huge night at the Yot. Global superstar drum and bass act Concord Dawn will be playing outside with MC Rolex. We also have a wee surprise in Oz rapper Tom Francis and his crew. Inside, we will have the best DJ in the Waikato, Ric Rush, running the show. Expect a mix of house, techno, hip-hop, party beats because Ric is an unstoppable beat machine and one of the most respected DJs in the country. This gig will sell out so get your tickets early from www. undertheradar.co.nz or the venue. There’s no rest for the wicked at the Yotty so we rip straight into it again on the first day of the New Year with another

Sunday Session. It’s a local lineup this time, headlined by Whale Bay outfit Double Brown. Same as usual: open at 4.20pm, free till 7pm and inside at 10, great food and a cool vibe. We are pretty proud to announce that on January 2 we will be having Kiwi rock monsters HEAD LIKE A HOLE at the Yotty. One of the country’s top bands, this will be their debut at the Yot Club. HLAH is a live act of unimaginable groove, humour, riffs and sleazy business, and will be supported by local men about town The Illicit Wah Wahs; get your tickets at Under the Radar or from the venue. Again, this gig will sell out and numbers will be restricted. Australian band Borneo comes to town on January 3, supported by Arthur Ahbez and Dave Weir. This lineup is touring the country so should be firing by the time they get to Raglan. Borneo describes its sound as disco-punk/rainbow-rock and any band that lists influences as David Byrne, Iggy Pop, Devo and George Clinton gets a “will attend” from myself. On January 4 the Yot Club has DJ Aroha and MC Tali. Aroha is one of the country’s top house/party DJs and Tali is a world renowned MC, known for her work with Roni Size early in her career and just about everyone else in the DnB scene ever since. January 5 brings The Peacekeepers to town. The Peacekeepers are a side project for

aglan Sunday Sessions at the Yot Club are the sound of summer, bringing festivity, top quality music and contagious “good vibes” to the heart of the village! The sessions, which have been running for six years and are growing strong, have become an iconic event that is well recognised both nationally and internationally. Thanks to great hosts and an amazing vibe, the momentum will keep growing! This season started with a real “Big Bang”, and artists are lining up to showcase yet another notorious summer of music, with a little something to please everyone! Stephen Reid, aka Jamin-I, Sunday Session’s founder and host, aims to keep up the positivity and keep on attracting top quality acts for the people of Raglan. “I just love music and love being able to bring renowned artists to come and play for us all. Without the sessions, a lot of them would usually be impossible to get to perform in such a small village. What tops it up for me is the positive vibe in the yard. It’s rare to see people of all ages, nationalities and walks of life celebrating together, big smiles week in week out! It’s special.” So come one, come all, and make your summer memorable! Enjoy great music, cold drinks in the sunshine and celebrate with family and friends! But, beware, it does get a little rowdy as the sun goes down therefore it’s R18 after 7pm. To find out about up-and-coming artists follow Raglan Sunday Sessions on Facebook and Instagram. Catch you in the Yard! Sunday Sessions are at the Yot Club, free from 4.20pm, cover charge after 7pm. Food in the yard and drink specials. R18 after 7pm.

Shapeshifter members Sambora and Diggs and focus on the more soulful aspects of drum and bass. Another Monster of Rock comes to town on Friday, January 6. Jon Toogood is the lead singer of Shihad, mainstay of the Adults and an allround GC! He is touring his critically acclaimed acoustic show featuring Shihad songs, influences and straight-out hilarious anecdotes and banter. Tickets can be bought online and at the venue. This show will be starting early and is outside. From 9.30pm we will be running a new door and have DJ Mark Williams, aka Slave, aka Log Cabin, from Base FM, running the show with support from Neck of The Woods’ main man, Hudge. Saturday, January 7, sees the return of one of our favourites, The Waikato’s own Knights of the Dub Table. These guys always pack out the Yotty. Expect nothing less here. Our silly season concludes on Sunday, January 8, with another Sunday Session, this one featuring Such and Such, aka Ric Rush and Sean Murray. As always, the lineup will be complemented with local talent, starts at 4.20pm, with a door charge from 7pm. Inside at 10, and, of course, great food. After a wee break we are straight back into it, with newly minted local Cian DJing on the 13th and local funksters Mighty Mighty bringing their raucous funk soul show to the Yotty on Saturday, the 14th. As always, Mighty Mighty will be supported by B Rex. The Sunday Session on the 15th will be headlined, inside, by an international touring band that has become a Raglan favourite. The Yotty will not be open on Friday, January 20, and Saturday the 21st to allow staff to get their rinse on at Soundsplash. However, we will be hosting the after party on the 22nd without assorted guests from the festival, and will be open on the 19th with Soundsplash artist Lime Cordial and, hopefully, on the 18th as well with a Soundsplash-affiliated act. Finally, the last weekend in January is Auckland Anniversary weekend and we have a full “internatty” lineup. Friday has Australian dub funk outfit Dubaray, Saturday brings reggae superstar Mike Love, while the Sunday Session brings London Superstar DJ Norman Jay MBE to town. Hopefully, there is something for everyone at the Yotty this summer!
