BIOMEDICAL SCIENCES Congratulations Graduates of 2012! You have come a long way from the time you first stepped to the grounds of RCHE. You may have wondered back then, how you would be able to accomplish your studies, when some of you might be far away from your home countries, working fulltime or just too overwhelmed to reach for your dreams. In spite of the many obstacles or challenges that life throws at you along your journey, here you are, all set to receive your diploma – a summative symbol of all your uphill struggles and sheer determination. Let me borrow a phrase from a Pulitzer Prize-winning editor, D. Marlette (2005) when he said, “Above all, remember: you are not your resume. External measures won’t repair you. Money won’t fix you. Applause, celebrity, no number of victories will do it. The only honor that counts is that which you earn and that which you bestow. Honor yourself.” Many happy returns to you!

Science is all around us! I wish to say thanks to all the lecturers who have taught me in my Advance Diploma in Biomedical Science. Furthermore, I have to apologize for my bad behaviour during the class but I tried to absorb as much as information as I can. Lastly, I also wish to say thanks to SAS department because they have given me a lot of help whenever I face problem in the school. Thank you!

I want to say that the field trip was well planned by Raffles College. It was the most memorable moment in my life. I have had many experiences on this field trip. I learned how NEWater is produced from treated used water that is purified using advanced membrane technologies and ultra-violet disinfection, making it ultra-clean and safe to drink. It was the best sightseeing and education program of all. I had a very happy and leisurely time that day. I have met some original and cool friends while studying in Raffles. However, it’s just the beginning, depending on which way you look at it.

The experience at Raffles was astonishing. Whenever I think about Raffles, it takes me back to the days when we used to work in the laboratory or preparing for presentations in the library, sitting on the benches under the tree with friends and many such things, which the campus has offered. The campus was lively with students from many different cultures, countries and traditions and I am proud to be a part of such an institution. Lastly, I would thank all the professors at Raffles, without whose support I would not have achieved success.

SHINGALA AVANI BAVANJIBHAI avani@raffles-geneticist.com [65] 83459162 I have never been without my family, so when I first came to Singapore, I had many questions hovering in my mind. I wondered if I would be able to cope up with my new life. But after joining Raffles, all I can say is it was the most inspiring experience I have ever had. Raffles have offered me a homely learning environment. The field trips to different places not only helped me in my studies, but also allowed me to explore Singapore. Our first field trip to the Alexandra Hospital was very helpful to us. The most memorable field trip was to the NEWater Plant near Bedok, which included a comprehensive explanation about the water systems in Singapore. I thank the lecturers for their continuous support and help which helped me to attain a higher step towards success.

The lecturers were very kind and patient during the lessons. They would take the time to explain certain topics when I am lost. Besides that, advice and instructions would be given when I face difficulty in completing my assignments. Furthermore, the personnel from SAS was very helpful in advising me and providing me with information, no matter how busy they are. I had a really good learning experience during my time in Raffles College.
